I always told my youngest son I wanted this played at my funeral. Then he passed away suddenly. I play this now to celebrate him and the mission he is serving in the eternities.

My oldest brother unexpectedly passed away a few months ago. He was only 34 years old, a corrections officer. He left behind 6 children, a wife, 6 siblings, parents and countless friends and family. I stumbled upon BYU when I was looking for a version of Danny Boy for his funeral and found the BYU version and this song, both of which were played at the funeral. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing these beautiful songs, it meant so much to me and to my family during such a difficult time. Listening to it still brings me comfort. Thank you!

I too have lost two older brothers and find comfort in this. May God keep his memory close to heart for all of you and thank you for sharing his story with us all. Music for me also heals and in the legacy of us that live on a wee bit longer may we find comfort to know they have not left us but they will come home again and greet us once more where death can never again take them from us. God bless. Love Dennis. xxx

I lost my sister. It was sad. I've never cried like I did. Then I turned to this song and it described exactly what it felt to let her go. She went to be with the Lord. She let go of all those burdens and she just went when we thought she'd live doing the will of God. I won't bind her to the plow.... I've set her free.

We started dating, eventually married, and now, 17 years after I told her how I felt, have 2 beautiful children. This brought some tears, but of true happiness and gratitude. This will forever be my favorite song. We used to sing it in choir while i was in highschool. I used to be very reserved and quiet so even when i wanted to connect with other i never could. Only when everyone sang together was i able to pretend like i befriended everyone. This song holds a bitter sweet nostalgia whenever it plays. Part of me hopes to reunite with the other classmates while another wishes to continue to live out life as if the past never happened. I may no longer be that quiet and awkward kid anymore but a part of me misses those simpler times.

In the quiet misty morning When the moon has gone to bed, When the sparrows stop their singing And the sky is clear and red, When the summer's ceased its gleaming When the corn is past its prime, When adventure's lost its meaning - I'll be homeward bound in time Bind me not to the pasture Chain me not to the plow Set me free to find my calling And I'll return to you somehow If you find it's me you're missing If you're hoping I'll return, To your thoughts I'll soon be listening, And in the road I'll stop and turn Then the wind will set me racing As my journey nears its end And the path I'll be retracing When I'm homeward bound again Bind me not to the pasture Chain me not to the plow Set me free to find my calling And I'll return to you somehow (louder) Bind me not to the pasture Chain me not to the plow Set me free to find my calling And I'll return to you somehow

It is everything this piece could possibly be with the human voice. It is lavish, sumptuous in harmonic sonority, beautiful haunting turns of dissonance into hopeful resolution, and the boys' voices as a soaring ostinato? Sheer aural bliss. I think these lyrics are up for individual interpretation, but I took it to be sung by someone who has just passed away and is singing to his family that he'll see them again. In other words, when he says don't bind me to the pastures and plows (the mundane labors of mortality) but let me go and find my calling (the truth, and everything that awaits me in the next life / heaven), then I'll still come back to you and I'll hear your thoughts and we'll still be close somehow, and we'll still see each other again. It's a song of comfort to those of us who have been left behind.

This song meant so much for me, because as a Returned Missionary last year from the Great Texas Fort Worth Mission! 2 months before I’m done with my Mission and it was on a P-Day, I got a called from my Family on the Islands that My Mom had passed away on the night before and I was just didn’t know what to do or say. But I just kept going on with the Missionary work, and didn’t even tell my companion about it cuz I know it’s a big deal. I just try to focus on the work and keep my Mom words just to finish what I have been called to do. So 3 days later they finally informed the Mission office and the Mission President called us but this time my companion answered the phone and he got told that we need to meet up with the Mission President ASAP!. Then that’s when I let my Companion knows about it and he was so shocked and sad. But long story short I’m home now but idc about what anyone says about me and why I didn’t come home to my Mom or spend lot of time with her before she passed away. All I care and know it’s that I’ll be able to meet her one day and my Dad also. I have strong Faith in His Gospel! Peace and love from the Marshall Islands 🇲🇭!!

Duuuuuhuuuuuhuuuuuuudddd. Ok, this song has alwayse made me feel something deap inside like I came somehwere I miss and want to see some close forgotton person again. Ive alwayse been raised in the church but unfortunatly I didnt see it in a genuin way for alot of my yet short life. But I decited I needed to go for what I know deap inside which I trust more then the world, and it just went back to the church lol. And I found a website that has storys of what peopel have seen when they were dead but were able to cone back to life. And it was amasing to finally read about Home! And so Ive been working hard to have a more authentic relationship with God, and like alwayse He has been teaching me line apon line. And I know He is the kne I have wanted all this time. I dont even know if you know all of what is behind that. How much it realy means!! And so Im very happy to say that this song now feels more normal instead of some feeling i only feel when i listen. And I still have alot to learn. I still realy feel something when the lyrics say “bind me not!!” And im not suprised but still i want to learn specificky why I feel to taht so much. I know there is going to be amasing things in the future and I will find what my life search has been all about for sure!! :)

In 2012, I was sealed to my best friend and the love of my life. In Sept 2018, after I supported him through so much tribulation and even deployments, I learned he had an addiction so severe, that it was driving his actions-he was not progressing to be the person I know he can be. He filed for divorce and it shattered my heart into a million pieces. One month ago, after fighting it, I finally signed his divorce decree papers. One night, as I was bawling my eyes out and praying with so much sorrow, this song came on. The chorus caught my attention. The spirit calmed my heart and I knew God heard me and was aware of my trial. This song was Him telling me it will be OK. I’m making this comment here as a public record-to come back when my sweet husband is whole, well, and a force for good on this earth. When, together, we will teach and help others who are experiencing the same gripping addiction. I believe in the sealing power of the temple and I truly believe the power of the priesthood can make this song the case for my family.

I don't like to argue, but you and I both know, or I think we should know that we should be kind to everyone. You don't call somebody filth if they are expressing their belief. This country has the freedom of religion and the freedom of speech. If you think you can get away with calling people filth and still be righteous, you've got another thing coming. Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father will serve you justice. Just not what you expect. Is this how you teach people? through hatred???? You should pray and seek truth, not what you think is right! Jesus Christ is our savior!! Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God!!

I loved hearing McKay Crockett say the arrangement came together in his mind once he thought of the Jupiter chorale. To me, both pieces promise a beautiful future to a bittersweet present. This song always draws me to those that have died and their great memories; encouraging me to love life and God. I think of my beloved parents, my first wife Anita, and even my deceased bosses and friends. They remind me of the fact that one day we will all leave this life, homeward bound to our loved ones.

this song makes me think of someone who is dying and does not want you to be sad, because they’re just going back home to Heaven. “bind me not to the pasture, chain me not to the plow, set me free to find my calling, and I’ll return to you somehow.” is them saying that it is time to let them go, and not to worry because they’ll always be with you. Makes me wanna cry every time. 🥺

I cry every time I hear it, I used to tell my son to play it at my funeral. Now he’s been in heaven. 7 years. It’s a beautiful song. I know he returns to look over me when he can.

God surely has a plan to let us free of all our restrictions and we shall find our little place where we can fully feel our spirit and our mortal man both commune together in a work so much worth the finding and the freedom that comes from find our callings. every ones is unique to find but it takes work and time separated from the ones we love. but we can always return to our loved ones. ALWAYS!!

This is so amazing! I love listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing it but this takes it to a whole other level. Well done.
