Time For Chaos is a playthrough of Masks of Nyarlathotep for the 7E Call of Cthulhu role-playing game system by Chaosium.
A mysterious lost expedition sets in motion an epic globe spanning adventure as investigators come face to face with ancient evils beyond the scope of human comprehension. Often considered the greatest role-playing game campaign ever written, Masks of Nyarlathotep stretches the boundaries of horror, driving both characters and players insane since its publication in 1984.

I'm going to run this campaign soon so I was looking for other people running it on youtube so I can get inspiration, ideas and such. And this has become so much more than that. I adore Ross's character and his acting. Easily the highlight for me. It may seem hammed up and over-the-top but he's into it, he's into the character. He plays that character. Rob's very good, giving some light-heartedness to all the dark tension to keep people from forgetting to breathe. Meanwhile Noura and Kate are the most grounded, keeping the other two in check and keeping things from getting too out of hand. But they join in on the fun as well. I... love every one of them and their characters. And of course, Troy, this wouldn't be as possible, or as engaging without you. Thank you.

Troy described briefly near the end how these characters may be reacting to experiencing the occult, essentially, in addition to Nora's grappling with seeing things her secret society had talked about for some time. But I think it's far different to learn about or believe in something and another entirely to KNOW it, to have experienced it first hand. What a ride that must be.

Just wanted to leave a little feedback and say I’m deeply into your format of bit o’ banter up top, and then a little deep dive on a particular rule or aspect of the game before getting into the actual game itself. As a relatively green keeper/gm I find it IMMENSELY helpful. Thanks, and keep up the great work y’all! 😊😊😊

I'm really enjoying this playthrough. I also intend on running it for my group in the future, though it may be with the Pulp rules depending on player preference. Regarding Cthulhu Mythos and insanity: pg. 164 of the Keeper's book says that the first time an investigator suffers from Mythos-induced insanity, they add 5 points to their Cthulhu Mythos skill. Any further bouts of Mythos-induced madness will each add 1 point. This means that Carter and Vaughn should each have 5% in CM and reduce their Max San by 5%.

I’d say don’t go Pulp. Part of beauty of Cthulhu is the vulnerability of characters and that is definitely lost in pulp. My group played Masks with normal rules and it was one of my favorite campaigns of all time. Later we played the Two Headed Serpent pulp campaign and the characters really felt almost like superheroes. It’s was fun too but Masks was much more tense and exciting.

Kate should really check out older versions of the "nice" fairy tales. I got an older book when i was young Red riding hood has them eviscerating the wolf releasing people filling the wolfs stomach with rocks and stitching it back up. waking up the wolf is thirsty and drags itself to a lake and starts to drink. they push the wolf in and watch as it drowns. Cinerella has her evil stephsisters cutting of their toes and heel respectivly to make the glass slipper fit for the prince but he can see the slipper filling up with blood and know they are not the one so they mutilate themselves to decive him for nothing. Nearly all of them has been tidied up from their original horrific versions. Also even more unbelivable then headmaggots rising the dead is that Myrtle would buy her own groceries and carry them home herself

I liked that question "more chapter?" oh sweet summer child. That was the newly added starting chapter that is designed to introduce the player and the most murdered NPC in Cathuluh historry to each other:). The big ones are still ahead. Rules questio:n Kates's sanity. Is it possible that she overshot the starting sanity? I believe that the cap for the character's sanity is the amount from the creation but not 100% sure. She will be in great shape either way. Brtohers Gimm ? they are I beleive still read to Kids today here in Germany. So yeah she will know all of those for sure :)

In the world of the Cthulhu mythos. Isn't the Black Forest one of the major centers of cosmic horror? If so the correlation between the stories of the Brothers Grimm would probably be "witness" accounts put into terms and images more easily digestible for the contemporaries of that time?

I forgot the *mastery* with which Troy does scenario transitions. The OP Glass Cannon backstories had me so hemmed up with their quality, I had to drop away when one of the PC received a fate that I think was worst than death. TOO MUCH FOR ME MAN. And here, I think it's happening again, but since this is CoC, I'll be more prepared this time. I hope. 🤣Clearly it's also about adding Troy's talents to excellent player imagination. This cast is KILLIN' IT! Taking us all over the world, ACTUALLY painting us a picture in Margo's case, and spiking the punch with these Troy Specials in the characters' lives! Like watch Kate's face while Carter's getting his homecoming treat starting at 1:39:08. She mirrored what I was feeling, and then ROB did!! 😆😆😆 What an amazing movie this would be with each character having these as post-credit scenes! 10-movie deal, baby!
