tip for your players: don't forget to ask for Know and Idea rolls.

One note though. Troy usually gives a choice to the player in Fast talk/Charm/Intimidation/Persuation. This should not be like that. From the player handbook: The situation and the roleplay should indicate which skill to use, for instance: - If you are using threats, roll against the Intimidate skill. - If you are using negotiation, roll against the Persuade skill. - If you are acting quickly to deceive, con, or trick, roll against the Fast Talk skill. - If you are befriending the person (or pretending to), roll against the Charm skill. Describe what your investigator is saying and doing. The Keeper will then declare the difficulty level based on the disposition of the non-player character towards your investigator.

Another real fun note to harken back to the HP Lovecraft Historical Society Dark Adventure Radio Theater presentation of the same name as the campaign, during the funeral of Jackson Elias not only are cultists spotted, but so gentleman approach the ex-fiance of Jackson Elias who has also just lost her current intended, and introduced themselves saying "we're so very sorry for your loss" and giving their names, Paul fricker, Matt Sanderson, and Scott Doward. "We were GOOD freinds of Jackson Elias."

Been fun seeing this campaign come to life under these fine folks. Although don't pull punches, Troy! Much of the evidence they can potentially miss from poor rolls, poor decisions, or lacking the appropriate skills can be found later. Also don't let them bully your NPCs! I know how that goes, and it only gets worse if you indulge it. This isn't Pathfinder!

I got to say, the Peruvian Adventure was included in order that the characters May truly become the good friends of Jackson Alliance. Even in the early and the first original editions of the game it was a handout entitled what you know about your good friend Jackson Elias. And that was supposed to establish that there was a meaningful relationship between either someone in the group or several people in the group. And when things go wrong, they don't really seem impacted by its loss should be they just haven't sussed it out yet it hasn't really hit them yet but to go across town investigating a library book when somebody somewhere is putting together his funeral, to be occupied with the reading of the will even as people are still meeting at the church to sit and think and pray and comfort one another. It just doesn't seem to matter all that much. I ran into a little bit of this with a couple of my players. I have some people at my table who have experienced some genuine and deep losses in their lifetimes, and I can understand them wanting to just kind of skirt around this but I had one who just came crashing to his knees. When I brought Jona Kensington in to the police station where he'd been summoned by investigators being questioned, he was a mess. And I let him be a mess. And I want to give my players the opportunity to drink and reminisce until stories about their good friend Jackson Elias. Now the thing is they actually have some tails to tell. We spent some time between Peru and New York and lots of different places of the world and lots of scenarios Jackson was assumed out of the country or he had gotten letters from them saying he was somewhere else only to have him suddenly show up at darts Carnival for example who could resist those juicing news stories. And there was a happy reunion and then great danger LOL just like the good old days. But losing him should be a bigger deal than moving on with the mystery and the investigation if the sentiment isn't at least understood by the players of the characters for their friend then later when it matters that the something evil that took him down is actually something great able it has so much more than he had discovered planned. Because if you run call the Cthulhu for about 10 minutes you figure out that their evil calls us out there and their goal is to take over the world destroy the world eat the world etc etc etc Ai! Cthulhu this, Shubnigurath That, Yog Sothoth... What ever lol. Ross at least visited the church. The player characters spent all this time over several years being personally therapeutic having nightmares haunting memories unpleasant mental and physical side effects of the Peruvian Adventure. Yes it is stepping back into the chaos in the heart to come back to New York to meet up with Jackson Elias and then to find the horror that's occurred there but for that reason I would think it would matter more. But maybe that's just me LOL On another note. I really would like to encourage you guys Troy and your support team to maybe roll on over to chaosium.com and procure a copy of The Masks of Nyarlathotep companion. Find the section on Jackson Elias. There are a couple of pages of book titles and synopsis. It might be fun for Ross at least to have some copies of Elias's work. And it would be fun for the players to find them in and out of the way corner of the Metropolitan Library while they're searching for other things. Could accidentally find one or two of them tucked away whether or not supposed to be on a failed Library use roll. Enjoy your vacation

Heya I don't rate the companion that highly. I'm from Hong Kong and that section is full of glaring errors and omissions. Most shockingly, it includes several mentions of (and map marker for) a theme park that wouldn't exist until the late 1970s. The Shanghai section also has a bunch of errors...

Man, this is what RPGs should be all about. It hit emotional highs and lows, it had comedy and drama in spades, and it advanced the heck out of the plot. Amazing cast, but shout out also for Troy on keeping these investigators and their story "real". A difficult job, that you master expertly. I especially like how you have each player take turns reading the content aloud. I've never thought to do this: I just showed the content had them all read it silently. But this format, while perhaps intended for the podcast media, is much more powerful in any game. I'm stealing this trick for my keeper toolkit.

My exact thoughts when they got arrested after literally just meeting Jackson's Lawyer and dear friend, who none of them thought to call while being interrogated 😂 I thought for SURE Carter when he got all adversarial to the detective and said "I know all your tricks" that he for sure was going to call for the lawyer. But even so I wasn't disappointed, great scene overall.

Jonstone (Jomo) Kenyatta (1897 - 1978) was the first President of Kenya and a leader in the anti-colonial movement. He was also a student of anthropology who wrote an ethnography titled Facing Mount Kenya. (He is a young man at the time Alias fictionally meets him and at the time of the campaign.)
