The Squirrel pattern is in this link as promised in the video:
homewoodspirit...
You will get also 4 basic whittling step by step projects and whittling knife guide.
You can also join us on Facebook and be part of bunch people who keep wood carving and whittling tradition alive. You are welcome to join here:
/ wood.carving.and.whitt...
Wood carving and whittling is here more than 5000 years and we have the opportunity to connect to our ancestors and make some nice carvings. Personally for me is wood carving and whittling way how to connect with my grandfather who was quite good at this craft.
It is also very nice hobby for long evenings by the radio.
I wish you good luck with this whittling squirrel practice video.
Vladimir

Watched this video about 7 months ago and again today. Getting ready to cut a true down in my yard that's not doing well and thinking about leaving the stump and trying this little guy on the top for a yard decoration. It's about 6" in diameter so think it will be perfect. Still thinking about it so not positive I'll do it but if I do I will send a snapshot of it to you. Thanks again for the videos!

Thanks for your skills both in carving and narration. I have seen several of your videos and find them easy to follow. I have a question - I have some basswood that is about 8 - 9 years old, and seems to be very hard. Does it get harder to carve as it gets older? Any other wood you use to carve? Basswood seems to be getting costly!
@HomeWoodSpirit
@HomeWoodSpirit 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Carl. I have basswood from my grand father. It was sitting on the garden for last 40 years and it is hard like a stone now. Someone told me to soak it in some alcohol based liquid which should soften it up, but I havent tried it yet.. Really good basswood is between 1-5years. If its too expensive, try to make your own stock. For whittling is essential. I have carved cedar, poplar, pine...can be used, but once you tried nice lime(basswood) you will never go back..

I was told a 50/50 water/denatured alcohol mix sprayed on and left to soak in helps, but you'd have to keep doing it as you carved

Thanks Again, Sincerely, J Q

Hi Jeff, it is inch and a quarter I believe, but I would rather go for inch and a half straight blade.

The Drake knife with the belly on it, is that the 1 1/4 inch High point detail knife? I want to order one and need to verify if I am looking at the correct knife! Thank you!

Murican Made hi Murican. It is the one. They have all belly. It is quite sharp but few strokes through grinding stone will do.. i would suggest you the inch and a half because when I do “bigger” carvings (more than 2inches on at least 2 sides) it is better to have something longer. It is good knife! You will not regret!
