9:10 the modularity of the ship from Cataclysm has a more mundane but practical reason. Each of the Kith basically queue up for time to use the mothership to make their own ships. Somtaw was alotted enough time to make ONLY TWO ships, so they had to make sure what they made could swap out and upgrade on its own, hence the modularity. Of course, that modularity became the key to their success and survival, but that was just chance.

That KH2 line is a meme based around the VA of the Kuun-lan's captain. Yes, it was the same guy. It's from a political ad about the policy makings of the incumbent Kingdom Hearts 2 versus it's challenger Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. G4 was a channel on television once... And it makes about as much sense as that word salad I just wrote. You have to see it to believe it.

Funnily enough, Dune did not start the giant-colony-vehicle-in-desert trend, but it was pretty early for "desert planet". There are giant vehicles in Dune - Spice harvesters - but they are made to seem tiny in the scale of the environment... and they are only used by outsiders to the planet. I shouldn't say more in case you want to read and/or watch Dune some day.

Supreme commander is a love letter and spiritual successor to the classic Total Annihilation. That is one of the Grandads of the Genera, along with Command & Conquer. Both are worth checking out.

Good ol' Gearbox, always trying to scam money outta people and destroying IPs left and right. Deserts of Kharaks aint my favorite but they did ok. I really love the Gaalsien and the religious aspect in this game, we know the Gaalsien wanted to protect the Kushan but holding to the punishment made them blind to reason, the world was toast (hah-hah) and they needed to get away or at least try to do something instead of sitting and waiting for the end so using the core was sadly needed.

In melee you mostly want to stand on even ground on top of a hill to not only face an opponent partially tired from the trek upwards, but also to have firm footing while your opponent has to uncomfortably shift his mass to not fall.

The Kingdom Hearts 2 Steam port is actually fantastic, runs great, no problems that I remember. Also for Supreme Commander, it's considered by many to be one of the best RTS's of all time, especially the Forged Alliance expansion (mainly in terms of gameplay, game design, progression, etc., the story is pretty basic). Easy recommend, though 2 misses the mark unfortunately.

38:29 Funnily enough, of the Kiiths that originated from the city built around the Khar-Toba _the Siidim are not one of them._ The ones that WERE are the S'jet, Somtaaw, Gaalsien, Naabal, Paktu, Manaan, and whatever Kiith originally had the symbol now associated with the Soban, so the "Divine Bloodlines" are all NOT Siidim at all.

I know Command and conquer 3, there isnt a sort of rock paper scissor but instead you have basic infantry, rocket infantry for tanks and buildings, as well as air units. Your basic rocket vehicle which is a scout, a basic tank, and a semi mobile vehicle with an MG cannon good against infantry and ok against air.

When the video game and movie industry unfreezes the single mizmar player they keep cryogenically preserved in the depths of their studios to play the same tune for every desert scene ever, it means one of two things. One, it's just iconic enough to work. Two, and hold on to your seats cause this one will blow your mind... I don't think I know enough about music to actually notice that they're not the same tune at all, and I ended up just sounding really stupid. XD

I don't like how Deserts made Kharak uninhabitable after a certain point. It ruins the idea that they could've remained there and been fine, and makes the burning if Kharak not only inevitable, but less of a horrific act since everyone was already doomed. In short it makes the burning LESS impactful, which sucks. I will reiterate that Genesis Rising will get you to appreciate Homeworld 3's review more though, the references aren't all that's going to be there.

I dont see it that way. I see it, on the contrary, as a reason they had no choice but do what would condemn kharak to burn. The population was still on the planet, it was dying, but not dead at all yet.

Despise for my distastes for Deserts retcons, I have to point out Deserts isn't to blame for that one. Homeworld 1 historical and technical manual mention that the temperate climate zones at the poles were shrinking every year and survival was in the starts, Kharak was doomed from the start. BUT, it doesn't downplay the destruction of Kharak by the Taiidan, if the Taiidan didn't release the atmosphere burning weapon, the Kushan still had time to emigrate from the planet, even if it was to spaceships.

@lich109 they were, but in the long term. If it wasnt for the Taiidan torching Kharak, their entire population could have been taken to hiigara. Instead they lost everything that wasnt packed for a test flight and whatever people were lucky enough to already be prepared and frozen for the journey. The planet was lost, the people were not thanks to the mothership. And instead, everyone died right here and there because of the taiidan, at the cusp of the journey that could have saved every single one of them. The world still had maybe decades ahead of itself before becoming fully impossible to live on

This makes me think, if "trying" to make a Homeworld story is exactly how you screw it up. What makes homeworld story known only to original writers. Thats why Cataclysm is remembered fondly, not matter how much Gearbox says its not quite that. You instead, get broad strokes, only basing off the source material. For example, i would be full on board for a campaign where you just lead a band of Turanic raiders. Yoinking ships and booty or maybe unfathomably ancient tech, dealing with quirky rival bandits, even if they are a bit one sided, so long as they have character, would be amazing. Maybe even show this slow fall of Imperial Taiidan from true empire to a shallow conclave of warlords and their fiefdoms that are just varying degrees of man made horrors and corrupt beyond any acceptable level. Heck, it doesnt exactly have to be about going home, or fulfilling some kind of prophecy, but just overcoming the challenge and ending on a high note of how much of a bick dick fleet you got there.
