With the information in the Homeworld Revelations corebook, and the recent release of Homeworld 3, some parts, such as the history of Kiith Liirhra are now out of date. So bear that in mind as you watch the video. I havent had a chance to buy Homeworld 3 yet, but I"m certain they have more background information about how the Kiithids work. An updated video on the Kiithid Social System will eventually be created, but the ETA on that is unknown at present.

I just love how the Kiithid System draws from so many nomadic and tribal cultures. Cossack, Mongol, Tatar, Bedu, etc. It is such a beautiful blend. And in my opinion, it is more realistic for a space opera of a game. Even with FTL travel and communication, logistically, a Semiu-Nomadic culture for a space fairing civilization is more likely to survive and thrive over a centralized system.

Don't forget the Bedouin-Arab influences plus the strong Northern Indian influences that I get (I am from Pakistan). This is such a rich and well written culture that if I told one of my family memebers of thwir stories they would think it real.

God rest his soul, My Grandfather when I first told him about this back when the first Homeworld came out, Thought I was talking about Cossacks or Tatars in my case. Every culture of nomadic people or a history of being nomadic can see parallels in this.

I ran a sci-fi rpg based on the Homeworld background and everyone loved the setting, and none of them had heard of Homeworld. Since there’s now an official rpg based on Homeworld, I’d strongly argue there’s more merit to the story than just the video game

I find that the Naabal being so influential in lore and so absent in the games is a bit... disappointing? Most of the games make the S'jet seem completely dominant, yet while highly influential the society's efforts are very much a group effort. I wish we could get another game like Cataclysm where it explores the Kushan/Hiigaran internal society and politics more (even if not the main focus).

@@DeltaPhoenix180 yea for all their influence I was a bit taken aback by the lack of their kith appearance in DOK, but I just think of it as the Naabal being one of the major founders of the northern coalition, every other northern allied kith: sjet, soban, are just offshoots of nabaal as their kith serve as a base for the coalition and allows The other aligned kith specialisations.

I'm 99% sure it's stated somewhere in the original Homeworld (or perhaps the sequel, I can't remember) that the Gaalsien all died in the fires of Kharak when the Taidan attacked. That they embraced it as the will of Sajuuk. As for the Siidim, I think it's far more likely that whilst the Captain was under orders, he would have been disavowed by his Kiith,. and without conclusive proof of their involvement, and given their good behaviour for the last few hundred years, would probably have been accepted by the other Kiith, even if it lead to distrust between them.

A handful survived. The mothership launch was planned to be sabotaged by the Gaalsien, the idea being to take over the main drives just shortly after being launched and then drive the entire ship into a crashing de-orbit to take out the northern cities from the sheer impact. The northern coalition and those in charge of the mothership launch suspected such a plan and moved the launch window, to throw Gaalsien's agents off. Which worked, resulting in the agents stowing aboard the mothership as sleeper agents with a small coterie having slipped into the cryo-beds. As for Siidim, their betrayal of the S'jet resulted in the entire kith being censured by the Diamed. Of the 6 million chosen for the cryo-beds, only 200 of them were Siidim, the rest of the kith perishing on Kharak or surviving as part of menial labour crews on the mothership. Their one act of treachery culled them down to a dying kith by the time of the Higaran landfall. Source: Revelation's historical brief, plus bits from the original historical brief. Luckily, I have both, in hard copies!

The sabotage of the Mothership was _before_ the launch, so before the burning, and yes, I also have the original game manual from 1999. The point I was making was there were no Gaalsien on the Mothership, unless a few infiltrated as spies, but since there were no recorded incidents of sabotage that's either doubtful or they chose survival over ideology.

@@saladinbob ...Mission 1, of homeworld 1. The mothership launches and clears the scaffold. Mission 2 - The Kar Selm wreck are found. Mission 3 - Return to Karak, having been burnt during the events of mission 2. Gaalsien infiltrators were aboard the Mothership during it's launch, as per the homeworld Revelations TTRPG source book. Page 200 in revelations states that the launch was moved up to throw off gaalsien sabotage efforts, and that the only surviving gaalsien of the burning of karak that happens during mission 2, would be those in the orbital facility, or those already infiltrated and sleeper agents within the mothership itself. The final paragraph of the kithid brief in the homeworld game book, page 24, backs this up. both sources indicate that during the construction and leading up to the launch, there were numerous gaalsien-style sabotage efforts, this further verifies that there's agents aboard the scaffold and potentially more aboard the mothership. Gaalsien is a kith that is dogmatically religious to survival, so it's not a stretch to hypothesise that they'd do anything to sneak a handful of their kith aboard the scaffold, the mothership itself, and maybe even a hundred inside one of the cryo-racks stored in the orbital banks.

Way back when I read the Homerworld manual because I was browsing the CD and found it on it but never read the DoK manual. I would never forget that at the end they wrote that after the Mothership launch life would be much harder on Kharak and that they would likely not find any survivors on a return trip. Not that they had to worry about survivors in the end. Entertaining video as always.

It just proved how much the entirety of the Kushan truly believed in the Mothership project that they were collectively willing to go that far to see the mission through. Terraforming a barren rock wouldn't be that out of the question. The cry-o-pods, I dunno. They said that they poured pretty much all their resources into the Mothership so that's highly unlikely. But with how secretive some kiith were you can never know.

It’s really quite fascinating just how dense the lore is for Homeworld considering it only encompasses a couple of games and an expansion. It’s so distinctive from the majority of other sci-fi franchises. Especially so the focus on Middle Eastern themed music and tribal society, even venturing into religion. After a few years of playing boring “AAA” games on console I replayed Homeworld 1 & 2 and now I’m beyond hyped for Homeworld 3, I ordered the collectors edition today. I need that mothership model. Thanks for the Homeworld content. It’s still such a niche series that despite being the godfather of all 3D RTS games many still don’t even know of it.

Every single Kiith sure has at least one big moment of awesome. About 2:18... where'd you find this, assuming you didn't actually make this yourself, Mac's Lore? Before their wars of liberation and during the Heresy Wars, Kiith Naabal did a similar routine as the Kadeshi when it came to kiith-sa fleeing from the Siidim and Gaalsien, and the two aforementioned Kiith: "Join us or die." Majiir Paktu actually took part on the return trip to the north. Alas, he never survived it, but his followers did, and so history was made. Hope we get to see their varied roles again in HW3. Also, many thanks for the links to the archived extra lore and details of the series, particularly from Cataclysm/Emergence. Edit: Shame you only showed the Maximals in that nice Beast Wars: Transformers nod. Where are the Predacons at?

That's a subject that I would love to delve into as well but, sadly, it seems that for as much work they put into fleshing out the protagonist race, the devs chose to throw away the villains in each installment and replace them with new ones, without ever going into that much depth. Perhaps they do it out of fear of rendering the franchise stale and boring through repetition -because otherwise they have proven themselves more than capable of producing deep lore and world-building throughout the series.

I was wondering about the railway that connected to the kiith paktu lands in the south pole when playing Deserts of Kharak. It would have been one hell of a valuable target for the Gaalsien. Would the north be protecting it with gun trains? Partially burying sections of it?

Metawise, the Kiith system would allow for some homebrew stuff from fans aswell! Here's an example: Kiith Geelam, the kiith that holds the largest influence over all media related to the Hiigaran people, from soap operas, to news, to political speeches. Various creatives emerge from Kiith Geelam. This kiith was formed after the Kushan transitioned to become Hiigarans, born out of a desire to uplift the spirits of the Hiigarans who awoke from cryopods, only to discover that Kharak, and possibly their loved ones, perished in flames. Like-minded individuals from different kiiths came together to establish this new kiith, aiming to boost the morale of the Hiigaran people. Eventually, they evolved into the largest media group within the Hiigaran Empire, encompassing actors, musicians, poets, writers, and journalists. Multiple kiiths sought their advice in matters of outward projection, determining how they wished to be perceived by other kiiths and, more importantly, by the enemies of the Hiigaran Empire. God, Homeworld is so ripe with this kind of stuff it boggles the mind how it doesn't have the same creative traction as warhammer.

I've never liked the mundane nature of the Kith system's history, I've always believed it would have been more interesting if it had been born out of the ships that carried them to Kharak, which would make a lot more sense than a galaxy spanning Empire made up of a caste system. In a self contained environments cut off from one another, save via short range radio, it would make sense that a kind of caste system would arise, and that association with the ship would arise. It make sense for Kharak, but it makes utterly no sense for Hiigara, pre- or post-exile.

Really great video i could only wish for subtitles or the script on the side of the video so i don't have to rewind if i want to check if i heard smth right(not a native english speaker). I honestly think that the Sidiim in deserts was an isolated case and the captain came across as a zealot to me or possibly making political moves , either that or they got a change in orders during the resupply and he was simply doing what he felt was his duty. Shame we never got a Sakala DLC , it and lack of NG+ are things i feel dragged an otherwise great RTS down

Subtitles to be honest has never been something I gave much thought to. Although now that the channel is growing bigger and open to a wider audience, I should probably look into subtitles more. I dont know if I should promise anything though, because I quite literally have never tried it before and wouldn't know how difficult it would be. But I will make more of an effort to research it going forward. Also your theory about Siidim is plausible. The Sakala could have been acting on it's own agenda as well. Although I assume any answers about the Siidim, and also the Khaaneph were to be part of a follow up that never materialized.

The Siidim decision to betray the coalition was also possibly in part motivated by horrible loses on the home front and desperate need to maintain relevance post war and not just blind fanaticism. Post war they definitely would have been dissolved but i don't think the "harsh fate" is the definitive outcome. They were possibly absorbed by other kiithid. Alternatively were soft genocided and lost the use of their names and were not even allowed to participate in the mothership project with the result being that their name and existence was stricken from history with the "burning".
