I moved to LA in ‘82 and the first place I lived was in the Whitley Terrace, supposedly the first place for wannabes. The houses above us captured my imagination and I longed to visit them. Well, here I am 30 odd years later, and you made it possible. Thanks so much for a dream come true. Your home is exactly as I imagined. Wonderful decor!!!

My sister lived in a stair house in Whitley too when she first landed in LA in the early '90s. Now she has a great apartment in the historic Krotona (Beachwood Canyon). There are some real hidden gems in those hills.

That gem is called Villa Vallombrosa and it was built in 1929 by Eleanor De Witt !! It's featured in Dream Palaces of Hollywood's Golden Age by David Wallace !! It's famously called "the House of Oscars" after it was "discovered" that nearly everyone who lived there prior to 1949 either won or was nominated for an Oscar 😅 !! It was also featured in the June 2005 issue of House Beautiful, as you can see I'm absolutely fascinated by this house !!

I’m curious about how many people lived there in those 20 years that you referred to
@EMW7435 ай бұрын
@@14ariel77 , MGM costume designer Adrian and Janet Gaynor(winner of the first Best Actress Oscar) lived there !! Other notable inhabitants were Omar Kiam ( costume designer for A Star Is Born), Oscar winner screenwriter Ben Hecht, photographer Baron Adolf de Meyer and composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein , opera baritone John Charles Thomas, playwrights Victor Walfson, Nathaniel Curtis and Dame Judith Anderson; by the way these were all renters of the property , all this info is in the book that I bought a few years back !!

One of the best Homeworthy episodes that is both historic and architecturally nuanced for Hollywood Hills. Loved all the Tony Duquette furnishings and artwork as well. Quite an iconic home with all the past film celebrities who visited or lived there, Adrian in particular.

OK! FINALLY! A designer who gets the TRUTH! YES!... a home's interior should reflect and connect to the home's architecture! Annie, you are an astute, thoughtful, and very talented designer. Ideally, it is the true designer's quest to bring forward the themes, ideology, location, and history of the home. When a designer works in this way the home will be truly classic and timeless, and it will feel much larger as it will be an EXTENSION of the architecture rather than an impediment of the architecture. I so long for the time when the days of the "eclectic contemporary mix" are behind us. Thank you Annie for sharing your stunning home and work with us!

Decorating a house, to make it feel like you bought it with the original furnishings, is a true art. You have managed to capture rhe 'soul' of the house beautifully. The Syrian wardrobe is a real statement piece. As you said, it's a bit like stage setting a fantasy.
