Looking good -- I've heard others talk about using chickens to clean up under their pigeon loft, but never seen anyone actually do it. Looking forward to seeing how it works for your loft.

Hi Shaun Dave here from NZ, before you go much further, may I suggest you pipe the loft for automatic drinkers, saves a massive amount of time, and don't forget the wiring for the ets, Looking good, cant wait for the next instalment,
@alohapigeons94406 жыл бұрын
That would make things a lot easier, might be a future project. Thank you very much.

Just finished my breeding aviaries, I made 4 individual flights, and fitted drinkers to the front of each section, all piped into stainless troughs, its worth the effort, just clean with a bottle brush most days, and refill automatic, easy peasy.

Good progress buddie! Make sure that you seal the joints with silacone in the wood sheeting cos it will leak else! Your doing great though!

Nice job ! looks good, two things I was wondering is any hawks around your area ? If yes you need to go with 1x1 wire if no you good with 1x2 . Second how are you going to clean under the wire floor are you making them removable? Any how keep it up you doing good 👍
@alohapigeons94406 жыл бұрын
Thanks Stratos5907! Luckily no hawks to worry about. I'm hoping my chickens continue to do a great job turning over the droppings and dirt like they have under the breeder cages but if not I'm going to have to see if I can use a rake to get to the high traffic areas or I'm just going to have to use a few jacks to add a few more blocks. Wanted to keep it low so it's not such an eyesore for my neighbors and also so my tortoise can't go under the loft. Let me know what you think or if you have any other tips. Thanks

AlohaPigeons . I like to keep it clean if you have good amount of birds don’t take long to have poop accumulation . You can put cement boards under it and just pull them out once every six months and clean them out . Also you need to put some cross braces in the corners for strength just to keep it together in high winds
@alohapigeons94406 жыл бұрын
stratos5907 that's a great idea!

AlohaPigeons 1/4 inch is not to heavy you can pull it right out , never goes bad . Good for landing board also you can hose it down to clean it .

Are you sure you are building it for pigeons? It looks strong enough to house a couple of.....A-pex predators!! Like lions or tigers or bears, oh my!! Why do you insist on torturing yourself by building this loft by yourself? I can help you if you need/want help you know. Just let me know my braddah!! Is the wooden portion of the roof the same as the walls? I would suggest maybe extending the roof portion another 2 feet or so. Not crucial or anything, just something to consider. The wooden portions can always be extended later if necessary. And there is enough bracing in the floor that you can use regular 1 in by 1 in wire. I have no idea if what you plan to use is expensive or not, again just a thought. i know you said you are not a pro carpenter, but it also looks like you are hardly winging it either. LOL... And when i built my lofts, i only made the water accessible from the outside because i usually changed water at least 3 times a day. I made my own feed trough that i used inside that was portable. Each loft had its own feed trough. I love what Im seeing so far. And must admit IM kind of envious. Yes Kingzie, I still plan to get back into keeping birds again, but the timing hasnt quite felt right yet. LOL... Any way Sean, if you need help with anything, pls ask. Id be happy to help! If you get hurt, then what will you do?
@alohapigeons94406 жыл бұрын
Lol, Yeah I'm sure I'm making this look harder that it should be. Thanks for offering to help! I'm taking my time and trying to figure out what I should do as I build so it would be a little tedious for anyone helping. The floor is going to be 1 1/2 flat galvanized expanded metal and yes expensive.
@bettawhisperer31196 жыл бұрын
I knew it !!!! So which is it? a lion, a tiger, or bear? Dude, seriously, the wire will be more than adequate, or do you want the loft to be a lightning rod? Nicola Tesla didnt even have a safety cage this elaborate! LOLOL...
@alohapigeons94406 жыл бұрын
But Nikola Tesla did love pigeons so I think he would be proud. lol

AlohaPigeons he probably thought he was one! He was crazy beyond belief with his OCD issues...but on the other hand, today's scientists now believe he was on to something big and ahead of his time with his projects on electricity. I tell you this much, if a hurricane comes, I'm hiding out in that loft!! anyone can say you are crazy to spend that kind of money. but I say sometimes crazy is exactly what you need. Agree?
