I haven't played in decades but HoMM (3 in particular) has always *deeply* impressed me with how seamlessly it mixes its disparate gameplay elements. It's part city builder, part RPG, part turn-based strategy and it has hundreds of creatures, items and spell effects, in addition to the dozens of unique spells, heroes, buildings and a near-dozen playable factions. It then balances all these things in a way where you can't really take any one thing away without significantly changing how it plays. The AI even puts up a good fight without resorting to cheating (I think? I've never noticed it obviously cheating any way). I mean, I know I'm not alone in recognizing the subtle complexity and depth considering it's going strong over 20 years after its release. Still. If I had designed this game I'd feel like I would never have to achieve anything ever again. Thanks for the videos, they're a real nostalgia treat.

Late reply but the AI do cheat in this game. Start with the difficulty setting of the game, we have 80 percent to 200 percent. With 80 percent and 100 percent start we have great amounts of resources, with 150 percent start the amount we receive it's the same as AI and with later 160 and 200 percent we receive less to no resources at all and the higher the difficulty the more aggressive AI is. Human player can still overcome huge disadvantages by picking up resources from the map and go for the AI at soon as possible. Almost all of the custom impossible rating challenge map that created by making human players as disadvantages as it can, either giving the AI huge boost both stat and resources or making humans as poor as possible by limit resources on the map and banning beneficial spell like fly, DD and town portal. The worst of all is the kind of map that human player have to exploit AI to win when you reload a ton of time just to win one fight. Enemy heroes can clearly cheat by using town portal and DD on cursed ground.

That's true... Even if it's just one of them you can shoot something just to weaken it with the spell and that's pretty useful

Nice start of the map Noro and congratulations for taking out the Orange player so fast. I usually focus on getting capitol and castle first, rather than hiring several heroes but I have to admit that the strategy definitely pays off. In any case, I love Cove and this playthrough so far. Looking forward to seeing the next one soon!

The very first HotA map I played was Blazing Archipelago, and it was actually the perfect map to showcase the Cove town! It is very islands-focused, so the Cove heroes with Navigation were perfect in this!

When deciding on a skill on level-up you can click the hero portrait to see the current skills before deciding. At least with HD or HotA loaded.

Man. I love game so much, but holy fugg do I suck. I cannot beat the 1st misson on the cove expansion no matter what I try. I just get bodied by every single AI, with no understanding of how they're building these godlike armies. Been watching your videos for a while taking NOTES for christ sake, and you make it look so easy...

I'm trying to get better at the game. Can you explain why you don't take the Ore pit at 4:15 with Anabelle, even at the next turn? The way I see it is few movement points for an extra 2 ore per day wich you can then use, in the long run, to trade for money or other resources. Thanks for the channel and for being so chill =)

Pretty certain it was just a small mistake. Doesn't help him that his color looks a lot like the grey of the uncapped mine, so it was harder to notice later on :)

he does not skip, he waits. Usually with your ranged creatures you always w8 in the beginning, becuase if the opponents move towards you, you might have a shot without ranged penalty.

gog.com has heroes of might and magic 3 complete which comes with both expansions (armageddon's blade and shadow of death). I think the mods should work with that version.

Why do you split the Nymphs into stacks of 1 before you attacks? Would make more sense to split them in 2 bigger stacks which can kill weaker enemies. Or split the shooters in two stacks.

He wants blockers so his ranged units are safe and the one big stack allows him to be aggressive. No point attacking with 2 stacks where more could go wrong where one would instant kill
