I was thinking the same thing- a story I heard during my childhood from my neighbors who I spent time with during the summer months. Thanks for rekindling this happy memory further. Also, I definitely think there is a connection. Most "myths" are based in one of two truths- either evidence of a real occurrence or a moral universal truth. And often the real occurrence is mixed with a moral slant. I can only hope science begins to take these stories or myths more seriously.

@@someotherdude , I think that you are right! I am fascinated by this apparent coincidence. And the description of Ebu Gogo doesn't sound like a story about mythical or supernatural beings. And unfortunately it describes exactly how homo sapiens would treat those tiny beings - according to the story humans burned them in their cave! That does sound realistic 😞 I would like to know if there are confirmed sources which prove that the Ebu Gogo tale was really told before the discovery of homo floresiensis.

Like we over here the same species fighting over the color of our skin which is no different than us being the same bird was slightly different colored feathers. @@outinthesticks1035 I’m willing to bet that this eruption caused a similar population decrease on the other human species. Then humans came around and finished them off, either with outright violence or out hunting them. And since we know Neanderthal had smaller family groups then Homo sapiens it’s possible the others did aswell, which left the remaining population too spread out to compete with us.

@@theluftwaffle1 dna testing shows that for a long time neanderthal men had offspring with half sisters , indicating that they did not recognize sisters by a different mother as siblings , that a dominant male sired most children in a group , and that there was little exchange of people between groups , indicating a small widely scattered population. In the livestock world , it's known that the offspring of a male donkey and female horse is stronger and healthier than the parents but the other way around is small weak and unthrifty, women would have gone back to their own people to live and if neanderthal or denisovan women were bringing hybrid children that were unthrifty it would have negative effect on population, but if homosapiens women were breading children that were stronger and healthier then it would strengthen the gene pool

@FrikInCasualMode
@FrikInCasualMode 3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily "wiped". I think in many cases being better organized, more efficiently communicating and using more diverse and advanced tools was enough to simply outcompete local groups of earlier humans. Consider this: so far only Homo sapiens sapiens were found to widely use specialized fishing equipment. Harpoons, nets, fish hooks. That alone would be a huge advantage, giving our ancestors a significant boost in food intake. Which meant more surviving children, healthier and stronger adults and decreased risk of starvation if hunting or gathering failed to bring enough food. Especially, y'know - on an island like Flores. Where already limited habitats would be quickly filled by rapidly breeding Homo sapiens groups, leaving less and less hunting grounds, water access or good shelters for 'hobbits'. From evolutionary point of view our ancestors *were* better and fitter. Thus they survived, while 'hobbits' died out.

For me, just as fascinating as the Hobbit is the rapid fire debate over exactly what it is. From hints of a fraud, to the idea that it was suffering some medical condition, to all the various theories of it's lineage. Patience has not been in abundance with researchers stumbling all over themselves to figure the little folk out. My favorite is the conclusions such as when it died out. Just because nothing younger has been found, doesn't mean it isn't out there. This is new....we'll find out much more.

Junjadee are the little hairy people about 4 feet tall that according to the indigenous people of Australia are real. They inhabit the mountainous forests and according to many tribes of the Aboriginal people along the Great Dividing Range they have been around for thousands of years. Their oral histories state that they were here before them. The aborigines have been in Australia for at least 50,000 years and migrated to this continent through SE Asia and would have passed Flores on the way down crossing the Wallace line. Perhaps these pygmy hominids still survive in the dense tropical and temperate forests of Queensland, New South Wales and as far south as Victoria.

There are so many amazing discoveries being made about our ancestors it's hard to keep up. But these little people...just blew away all established knowledge when their remains were discovered. Genetic (DNA) evidence shows we (and they) did interbreed, so all modern humans have some portion of Neanderthal DNA, and Denisovans also interbred with modern humans and with Neanderthals. I don't think we know if modern humans interbred with the Flores hobbits to create :) handlings. But it seems like, well, nobody was all thet picky about who they were, uh, getting it on with. :D So yeah, handlings might've been a thing. -- Kinda make all the racial prejudice seem silly, right?

@guardiancologne9034
@guardiancologne9034 3 жыл бұрын
You taught me something new, i didnt know their timeline had been pushed back from 12,000BC to 50,000BC, thanks! So there's a human species that lived alongside homo sapiens in time that was half the size of sapiens only known by a few bones, and yet the possibility of a "giant" human species that lived alongside us is religious dogma to be dismissed. I say that to say biology, evoloution, and fossilization is extremely complex and chancey, we shouldnt *dismiss* the wisdom of the ancients when they repeatedly say they saw something. I have had a theory for a while that the reason homo sapiens are the only homo species left is because we copied what we saw the other homonids doing/making, and we could mate with them and produce offspring that were still viable with other sapiens, but maybe not their other homid half. Basically outcompeting and outbreeding with more details lol. Great video btw, i love discussions about early human species, please keep it up.
