For anyone who doesn't understand why Homura acted the way she did, just know that it's all an act. She's just playing up the villain role. The familiars throw tomatoes at her to highlight how bad the acting is (makes sense since she's the nutcracker witch, and her familiars are described as ‘the theater troupe of the mortal world’ The "real" Homura comes out in the school hallway and, along with the final minute of the movie, reinforces that this is all so Madoka can have a happy life. Homura isn't acting just out of selfishness. She calls herself *"evil"* after her transformation because breaking the laws of the universe is fundamentally *"wrong"* . She calls herself a *"demon"* because she brought Madoka back to Earth, someone who was sacred as a *"god"* . Homura's cursed her own existence for Madoka's sake, and now she feels she needs to act as what she's become. She knows that it's temporary and that the other magical girls may soon become her enemies (as she herself stated twice in the end of the movie), but as she said in the final line of the film, *"I don't care. I will continue to wish for a world in which you can be happy."* Also notice how Homura does that weird thing with her hands? That's a callback to the movie opening "Luminous" where Madoka and Homura try to link hands in the beginning, but dissolve before it can happen. Now they can be together again. Nah, what Homura did was out of her own obsession for Madoka. It was not for anyone else's sake but her own. Homura is a very tragic figure. She spent over ten years trying to save the girl (the creator confirmed that she went through over 90 cycles before finally reaching the events we see in the 12-ep series) only to lose her forever. She is badly traumatized by this. In fact, trauma and PTSD related nods are littered throughout the film. In order to save Madoka, Homura attempted to force her own transformation into a witch. In doing so, she basically sacrificed her own sanity And I believe that was effectively Homura's breaking point. Her pain and obsession have corrupted her feelings for Madoka, and this led to her transformation. Now, her feelings for Madoka are all she really has left. And she'll do anything to hold onto her. Even rewrite the universe, if she has to.

Kamui No Chikara You could say Kyuubey was a heavy trigger point in her insanity. He's the reason all this started after all. And even though he's not human and he would of never learned his lesson before. Homura gave him his rightful punishment. I strongly agree that our girl isn't acting but that it's definitely not her fault and she means no real harm. Like she said, she doesn't care anymore. As long as Madoka can have a happy life that she deserves.

Oh, I'm well aware that Homura isn't mentally well. I also believe that yes, things are about to get much worse for her. I can't imagine suddenly rewriting the universe in such a destructive manner not having some kind of unforseen consequences, but that's a theory for later. It's like saying someone with schizophrenia killed someone and got to walk free as long as they didn't do it again. You can blame Homura completely, but you have to understand that she didn't intend for things to go as far as they did until it was to late. Like I said before, Homura is at a point where it's nearly impossible for her to turn back, because: It doesn't matter who she hurts. It doesn't matter who she sacrifices. It doesn't matter who she has to lie to. She doesn't even care much about herself. She doesn't care. As long as Madoka gets the life she deserves and gets her happy end.

Homura actually saved the world. She changed a bit of the law of cycles by splitting Madoka from her Godhood to being normal again. She took away everyone's memories of being magical girls and even their deaths. They should thank Homura for everything she did for them. Giving them another chance in life they wanted to have again. Eventhough they dont remember. She has the ability to erase and add in memories to them. And sad as this is. After 12 years of endless time travel over 100 times by now, Homura wants to die because it was the final nail in her coffin. I know you will say "But she ruined EVERYTHING Madoka had done to keep the world safe!" Have you guys ever think why they are in a odd desert with weird objects in the sand? This indicates that there used to be a city. There used to be life there. It would indicate that Madoka tipped the balance. Lets be real. Since she got rid of all witches from past, present, and future. That means the evil scale is gone and that the good scale has massively increased to where only wraiths remain. And without witches the world is now deserted. And for Homura, she has been through rough stuff honestly. She was actually the good guy in rebellion. Making Madoka a bit foolish on her part. She thought her wish would benefit everyone. But it was to only save the magical girls. So thats a big oof. Credited to the theory with Anime Theory.

Homura is helping them. She learnt that if a person truly "likes" an outcome, he/she must fight, not wish for it. Mami liking tea = symbol of her ignorance. Now she must question reality. Now she must find a genuine meaning in why she fight. Madoka wants to be an great person, a savior that gives everyone what they want. Ash I said after Magia Record, that includes season 2. I think you’re talking about the anime, and the mobile game is way past that. They’re just finishing arc 1, in both ENG and JP servers arc 1 is completed, now the anime has to catch up. I highly doubt they’ll do arc 2, there would be too many characters. Once they’re fully done with arc 2 in the game, (both the JP and ENG servers) and finished with the anime, they’ll probably focus their attention on to the main story.

I didn't quite understand how Homura became so powerful at first, but thinking back, Madoka only eradicated the existence of witches, but that does not change the wishes of any of the magical girls. So, in the new world, Homura's wish would still be "to save Madoka." And I guess, when your wish is to essentially save god from herself (or more specifically "save the existence of the person 'Madoka Kaname' from within the Law of Cycles") you're bound to be more powerful to have that wish granted. And when Homura does manage to grant her wish (i.e. rip out Madoka Kaname from the Law of Cycles aka Godoka) normally she would simply turn into witch, but became something more powerful than a witch, the antithesis to god, she became the devil.

Luna Athena I think it's a combination of surprise and something to do with the wording of Madoka's own wish. Madoka didn't wish for any great power or strength, the deity-ness she gained was just the result of how the wish turned out. What she DID wish for was to stop the existence of all Witches before they were born "with her own hands". And Homura was there for that wish, heard it... and she grabs Madoka's hands BEFORE they can get to her Soul Gem. Madoka can't free herself because she doesn't have any great strength and since her hands can't GET to the Soul Gem everything starts breaking, because the darkness in Homura's Soul Gem can't be taken and therefore technically the despair should make a Witch which would subvert Madoka's wish. That wish should mean that Homulilly CANNOT be born outside of her Soul Gem, but Homura isn't letting Madoka stop it. So the entire damn world fractures. x.x

I don't think people realise Homura hates herself for all this. I mean I thought it was obvious. She's essentially a goddess but instead refers to herself as a demon, evil and cruel. But she's doing it to herself, she BELIEVES she is the villain. And maybe she is. But she's making herself the demon because she thinks she deserves it. And in a way, she knows Madoka is going to win eventually, when she regains her memories. She sees Madoka through rose tinted glasses, as the good to her evil. Her Clara Dolls are also still around, and they're manifestations of her self hatred and suicidal thoughts. I mean Homulilly's whole thing was that she hated herself that she threw herself into endless torture, an endless parade, because she thinks death is too good but wants to die so badly. She's waiting for Madoka to kill her.

Where did you get the infos about what Clara dolls are manifestations of? I think in the wiki there are infos about all sorts of games and other materials. The problem is that in the anime you don’t really understand from the animation how the mages die because of the law of cycles, the gems are basically about to crack, but then madoka absorbs their pain but then we se the gems intact and then they randomly explode after that and that has no real explanation in the anime, and then in rebellion we se madoka get separated by the law of cycles but... how, how does homura become a demon, what the bloody hell just happened

I'll try to summarise this entire movie for those who are confused. Basically, the incubators have turned Homura's soul gem into some sort of a labyrinth only she is capable of controlling by inducing her into a coma like state. All the people she knows enter this labyrinth, and yes, this includes the real Madoka. The first half of this movie revolves around Homura realising something is wrong, since a) Madoka is there and b) they're fighting witches, which, if you watched the series, would know is not the way things ought to be. The second half of this movie revolves around her finding out what's causing all this, and an extremely vital scene involves the real Madoka and Homura meeting at a hill side. Madoka confesses that she'd be distraught if her life was not normal and she was torn away from the people around her, and Homura pays a lot of heed to this. A few scenes later and Kyubey admits that he did all this, in order to a) Confirm the existence of the Law of Cycles aka Madoka b) either control her or destroy her completely, which in turn would make it easier for them to turn things back the way they were by harnessing the energy of magical girls turned into witches. This horrifies Homura, who endured so much for Madoka only to have the latter turn into a goddess she never actually wanted to be, tear away from her loved ones, then be destroyed or controlled and forced to watch all her hard work turn into ashes, just because a bunch of incubators were greedy assholes. Homura Akemi turns into a witch. The others were informed about all this by Sayaka and Bebe, who retain their memories they had before Madoka turns into a goddess. They all proceed to fight this witch and destroy this labyrinth. Homura awakens due to the destruction of the labyrinth, and encounters goddess Madoka reaching out to her. Justification. Skip the bolded points if you want the story. *1. Homura had no clue that the incubators were even capable of doing such things, thus it wont be hard to realise that they had many tricks up their sleeves. If this fails, they'll do something else, something worse, and there would be more sacrifices.* 2. *They have confirmed the existence of Madoka and were bound to do away with her. They'd do anything they could, things she didn't even know of. It's not like she knew everything before she became a magical girl, why expect them to tell the truth now?* *3. Madoka admitted that she would hate having such a burden upon her on the hillside. The girl wanted to live a normal life, but had to endure the worst, just because she wanted to help people.* *4. Madoka's work would be ashes. The incubators would bring back the old way things were, there would be more suffering. More magical girls, more witches. There could be the end of the world, we saw what Madoka's witch was capable of doing.* She grabs Madoka's hands before the latter could touch her, and transformed into a demon. Theory time, skip this paragraph if you just want the story. *I dont know how exactly she did this, but my theory is that Madoka's love basically did. You know how Kyubey said in the series that Madoka was capable to becoming such a powerful witch mainly because Homura revered her so much she held her of high significance and Madoka became extremely important, thus making her witch so powerful. Maybe the fact that Madoka loved Homura to such an extent, including the fact that she was a god, made Homura significant as well. I mean, wouldn't you be grateful to the woman who endured so much for you? This is my own personal theory here.* Because of her new powers, she was capable of rewriting the entire universe and added in a new system. Instead of having the magical girls go through despair, she wiped away the incubators memories, and used them as a vessel to hold in all the despair. Madoka is back to her normal self, having no recollection of anything, and everyone remains the same. Only Homura knows what's happening. The end *Wait, so if the incubators are vessels now, can they die? We all know that Kyubey takes another incubator form when his first ones are killed, but does he have the conscious to do it now? He's nothing but a vessel, I doubt he can feel anything, or if he does, he's basically like witches, as they do carry around despair as well and I dont think they can be called conscious, ambitious creatures with emotion.*

if you read the Wraith arc manga you might figure out what actually happen in this movie. During epilogue of the anime you can see if Homura change her weapon from shield (to protect Madoka) to bow (to smite anyone who want to touch Madoka). In Wraith Arc also revealed if her power also changed from time manipulation to memory manipulation. In Rebellion she manipulate everyone's memory including herself and tell Kyubey about universe before Madoka being God. Kyubei latter doing experiment with Homura like you can se in movie. Sayaka and Nagisa in this movie is construct created by Madokami to assist her, that reason why they able turn or summon their Witch form. Akuma Homura only tore a piece of Madokami and made the piece her hostage, that why she just said if she is entity to defy the rule not one that become new rule. About Madokami, why she didn't took Homura as her assistant just like she did to Sayaka? Why she gave her ribbon to Homura? In Wraith arc that ribbon can trigger serious effect just by exist and As Law of Cycle she should know that. Why she didn't erase Homura's memory about her? Why in Wraith arc she didn't create an avatar of of herself while she actually can? There many theory that said if Madokami is one behind everything.

Homura definitely saved madoka from being enslaved by the incubators, and she brought all her friends back to human form, saving them from the cruelty of being a magical girl. She may be evil, but lawful evil. I feel like she's up to something that may actually be good. Also, she was corrupted by love, meaning she still feels compassion. I don't think she's going to hurt innocents. The target of her love is Madoka, she will do everything in her power to keep her safe and happy. Although if something happened to Madoka she may go crazy, and become a horrible force to be reckoned with. Homura is the antithesis to Madoka. Yin and Yang. I believe they will continue to exist together in balance and harmony. Also, she didn't choose this path on her own. The incubators tampered with her like this. And she sacrificed herself to become a witch to save Madoka. As a witch she was no longer her. All the converging timelines made Homura powerful like madoka just in a dark unpure way. Honestly, my take on the duality of the anime and Rebellion is that, personally, the original taught a pretty good message about life despite how grimdark it was. Despite Madoka having to disappear forever, she managed to not just prove the existence of hope, but create her OWN hope. Even if she never fixed the incubator situation, there was still hope in the end, in my opinion. In fact, realistically Madoka would still get a good end- there was hope for her. Not only would the other magical girls never become witches, but she would never turn into a witch either. I also feel Kyoko is proof that Magical Girls don't necessary have to become witches, at the very least, if they grow and move on. Remember, Kyubey's exploiting 14-year-old girls who know not how to love themselves, nor do they know much about life as it is. As for Rebellion, my problem with it is not Homura's decision- rather, it's just how it refused to resolve itself. I thought Homura's decision was a good way to show not only the corrupting power of love, but also give insight into the horrors of what depression can be like. As for the decision, I don't think it was fully selfless or selfish, nor entirely right or wrong. In the witch scene, she's shown letting herself succumb to her fate of witchdom FOR Madoka's sake (and I know it's for Madoka's sake, as she specifically states that she'll do it even on the premise of never seeing Madoka again, so long as the incubators can't control her.) When it comes to becoming a demon, she wasn't in the right mind- She let Madoka make her decision before, but at the end of the anime she's shown to be pretty unhappy. Talking to amnesiac Madoka, I believe, just amplified this and confirmed her fears, and of course she wasn't going to be critically thinking about it because, let's face it, she's hecking depressed. She went through the worst of her hells when she became Homulilly too. When Madoka saved her, it pretty much undid WHY she became Homulilly in the first place, so she really only had one option left- Of course, take the universe into her own hands. Though, she also wanted to be with Madoka at the same time (hence why she made the false world with her in that position) and of course, she despised Kyubey for his actions (hence, putting him in Madoka's place), and finally, due to the talk earlier, believed Madoka was unhappy. Going off of things like production notes, it could also be assumed she was a bit jealous of Madoka (going off the Clara dolls, I mean. Specifically how jealousy is quoted with "Let's make a box. I want to trap that radiance forever.") And, finally, it would be an endless battle- Kyubey had that piece of her shield, so no matter what Madoka did, he could remember it, even across timeline resets. If the condition were merely that Homura would be with Madoka forever, there's no doubt she would've gone to magical girl heaven. Anyways, when she decided to tear Madoka from the heavens, she was far from being in the right state of mind. She had both good AND twisted intention, and part of her reasoning for her decision was missing ground, and she inevitably realized the instability of her new universe. Poor girl. Z Of course, that's just my take on it. "Homura didn't do nothing wrong, but she didn't do EVERYTHING wrong."

She sealed the both of them into one single timeline which would then go on to have no wraiths and no witches and no nightmares and no nothing of that sort. I suppose in the end this is not a terrible ending it just means that Madoka can no longer deal with witches personally across all timelines now the whole system will just be automated so there won't be any more nuance to it. I guess I can see why that might cause problems because it makes the system even easier to fuck around with when there's not an intelligence behind it

something that sometimes gets overlooked in regards to homura not being evil is that she easily could have just saved madoka and left everyone else to rot, but ahe didn't. she gave mami and kyoko the necessary support to deal with their issues and went out of her way to keep nagisa and sayaka alive (with them being said support). and on sayaka'a side, when it fully sets in that she is alive again and gets to be with the people she cares about, she's happy, if conflicted.

Since there's the 4th movie that is coming, it means that the new universe can't be perfect - even if Kyubey is bearing the curses himself. Still, that world must have a flaw somewhere. Reality has been rewritten twice. If the upcoming movie is the finale of the original series, I think a third rewriting will be done by both Madoka and Homura. What would it be ? Perhaps the destruction of the whole magical system, which would lead to an equivalent of our world...

I completely understand why Homura did all of this. She's not the villain; it's the fucking Incubators that (again) ruined everything. They turned out to be such harmful power-hungry bastards that even after becoming a god, Madoka wasn't safe from them. All Homura ever wanted was to keep Madoka safe, and seeing that this couldn't be guaranteed in Madoka's world, Homura created her own world designed to (1) keep the Incubators away from Madoka (2) keep Madoka near her (3) keep the pain and suffering of magical girls out of the universe so Madoka could more easily forget about her divinity. It's not Homura's fault that the Incubators hurt her and Madoka so much. They're 100% responsible for the "demonic" world. If they hadn't been obsessed with getting ever more energy at the expense of the girls, then Madoka's world would have remained and Homura would have never created a new one.

Homura's actions in Rebellion such as rewriting her own universe always roused more sadness than anger from at least to me and many of the fans who had watched it, read the spinoffs. I saw what she did as a desperate, last attempt to make Madoka happy, whether or not her actions did is a debate I'm hoping to keep away from this comment section because for right now it's pretty clean of that. Homura just wants Madoka to be happy that she has a family like her little brother Tatsuya, but Madoka is someone who feels like, in order for her to matter or be worth much in life, she has to sacrifice herself to become a god that saves magical girls from a fate worse than death. (I mean Incubators IMPLIED to be the first race created by the universe, only it got greedy overtime and became a Satan/Lucifer cuz it was pretty jealous of mortals throughout the ages.) In a Buddhist sense, their story is terribly sad, one of them wants to make the other happy, but the other has to sacrifice herself to feel worth something. Poor, poor Homura. For her wish to come true she has to play the villain like a devil in a Buddhist sense and possibly even be the enemy of the one she wants to protect...like in some form and shape an disc-final boss to all magical girls. But as the 4th movie concept proves, EVEN Devil Homura didn't want to reset anything no more. You will hear Sayaka, Kyoko, Momo, Mami, Madoka trying to lend some comfort if not love-hate relationship. EVEN Hitomi...of all people..implied to be a new magical girl cuz she realized Sayaka was the one who healed Kyousuke's hands. Holy crap, indeed. This is gonna suck for Madoverse as it will be Ragnarok of magical girl system and probably the last time we see of Madoverse in a shitstorm state. And I'm glad I've finished that crossover crisis fanfic idea from the mages, & magical girls all round anime/manga, to heck mostly Kirby's Starlight Smash Alliance & Capcom's world between worlds. Here's After the End alternative part and NICE JOB BREAKING IT HERO moment: The "Future Past" is pretty much identical to the prime Madoverse (the one without Incubators) except when they FINALLY killed Devil Homura not outta hatred or anything like that...but regret and sadness and she said "You have doomed us all...the Incubators had won and there's nothing you can do about it...."; Based on concepts of Chrono Trigger & Fire Emblem Awakening; basically is an alternative chapter arc of an 4 year old multiversal crossover crisis of mine, I've concluded just a few weeks ago.

It's sad how homura literally rewrote the world so everyone could be able to live happily Mami seems to be in a better shape and probably has nagisa with her which helps the two of them not only stopping Mami from suffering to her loneliness and with nagisa she gets to be happy maybe even allowing her to have someone she can rely to, Kyoko pretty much has a better life overall even a stable place, Madoka gets to reunite with the people she loves, sayaka in a way gets to live as a human once again something that did affect her before madokami and yet homura is vaguely distancing herself even making all of them her enemies first with the cup of tea second with the apple not taking it, the third with sayaka, the fourth with Madoka by telling her that they probably will be enemies one day and there's nagisa that due to homura never ever getting the chance to know her she probably doesn't know a way to trigger her but probably the connection with Mami will make her, her enemy too by correlation

So true people kept saying homura suffered so much what about madoka she sacrificed her self and protected the universe protected the people her friends she suffered so much too bec she is so young to become a god and it is always a struggle to protect everything people don't know the responsibilities god's take its very stressful and homura is such a yandere at the end and homura was stubborn and kept repeating time over and over she still failed and it was a game over for homura but I do want madoka to stay as a goddess Ur the only one I've seen doesn't hate madoka or that homura was right and that was the right decision I like madoka goddess form than anyone could ever comprehend

I don't know why... but I feel Homura is kind of drunk here. And that purple cocktail is doing very little to dismiss my suspicion. I find Sayaka's reaction intriguing. In the barrier she seemed content and even angry that Homura would want to disrupt it and "vanquish" the witch behind it. But when she sorta did it again she got pissed. Wasn't the real "human" amnesiac Madoka in both worlds?

I think the reason Sayaka was like that in the barrier was because she knew how bad Homura would feel when she would find out that she was witch. Like when Homura does fully transform and is trying to die in her own barrier, Sayaka says something like stop trying to take on burdens by yourself since there was no reason for her to. Outside the barrier though at this point Homura not only rewrote the universe but also stripped Madoka of her powers to fulfill her own wish of wanting to protect her. For Sayaka she's gone too far and she sees her for the person she has become.

Is Homura mentally okay? No! Was her decision good? Probably not. Is she obsessed? Yeah, I'd say so. Does she desperately need a therapist? Hm, *I wonder.* But was her decision entirely selfish? Is she really evil? Personally, I doubt this. It being entirely selfish feels too out of line with who she is, corrupted by love and despair or not. For starters, I don't believe what she says to Sayaka is entirely true. When she says she doesn't truly know why the others were pulled in, just remember, she has the power of a literal almighty god. This is her world, and it has to be her fault in some capacity. I feel it WAS her fault, and not Madoka's, simply for the fact she subconsciously pulled them into her barrier beforehand. And what happened when they arrived? They were all given perfect, happy lives, with their ailments from the series were now solved. Mami had friends, Kyoko wasn't homeless, had Sayaka, and went to school with them, Madoka was peachy as always, Nagisa- well, Homura didn't actually know Nagisa prior. Either way, a witch barrier is a girl's mental landscape. It is quite literally her mind, and subconscious decisions can tell you a lot about a person. All of them being happy was something she thought while completely unaware of said thought. Deep down, she WANTS everyone to be happy, and I don't feel that changes when she becomes a force of "Evil." Again, she had the power of a god, and her world reflects her desires- she created it, she'san almighty reality-altering force now. Also note that she became a witch to stop Kyubey despite knowing she may very well never see Madoka again. She wanted Madoka to be happy; she prioritized that over her want for _Madoka_. That, and she has an existential crisis upon seeing that, inevitably, Madoka WILL ascend again someday; her world is unstable. I also don't think her ability to care is gone, at least entirely, either (it's probably fairly Madoka-Centric, though.) Remember, she straight-up has an existential crisis in the hallway. Honestly, while she is obsessed, I don't believe her feelings are any less genuine than they were when they first met- merely corrupted and wrought by despair, for they're the only thing she has left to turn to. Her ultimate goal is still Madoka's happiness as a person, but where she falls flat is not realizing that her destructive tendencies-__-not caring for herself and forcing herself to trample others--will be her ultimate downfall. But I don't think she's completely past saving either. While she will undoubtedly never be the same again, just remember that Madoka, _fucking Madoka-_- will be the one opposing her. I have little doubt that she will try everything in her power to save Homura- after all, one of her final promises was that she wasn't going to let everything Homura did be in vain. And being the goddess of hope, Madoka just doesn't seem capable of hatred. Either way, while Homura is definitely obsessed, and definitely DID do something very wrong, I don't think she's evil. Just very, _very_ badly hurt, and more in need of serious help than punishment (and again, in the new universe, while she was a bit of an ass she never directly hurt anybody.) Edit: fixed some major grammatical messes.
