I used hondas k24 (2.4) in my track car. It’s a reliable motor with 100k miles. especially with the hard driving I do multiple times a week & I make 50 more hp & 40 more torque than factory. I do oil changes every 3k miles and have never had any issues. The oil pump isn’t really a major issue on the K series, if anything it is the poorly designed & made timing chain tensioner.

having the oil pump be chain driven is a performance feature that causes the oil problems, it has cold problems so you beat on it cuz it’ll still go for 200k miles at least but in return oil problems, however if you deal with those problems like with the K24W1, you get possibly the best vtec Engine on the market with their design, I have a feeling the oil pump helps the engine reach higher rpm’s way quicker than other K-series. Plus there’s a build floating around on YT of this engine with an evo turbo slapped on that gets over 400 hp crank. Honda just needs more reliable parts

Buddy has a good scanner and ran a front to back on it. 83-13 or 19 (ECU/PCM) interuption. I know the chain jumped multiple teeth also. I parked it, have it up front tire off, valve cover off ( #4 cylinder area looks rough the rest looks like it should for having 298k on it, that isn't the actual mileage, was rebuilt by Honda (have paperwork) motor has 145k on it. Guy I got it from said last service that a timing chain job was needed to be done soon. I PROCRASTINATED like a fool. I am mechanically inclined, thought it was a good car for the price (at the time) Help me out here if you can. Since I am already going to do a full chain kit and actuator, the crankshaft is at TDC, sprockets are 8 teeth apart on being in sync with crank. CAN I REMOVE CHAIN, TURN VRANK 90 DEGREES CW AND ADJUST CAMS BY HAND???? Lock out the cams, get em marked after replacing acuator of course then begin process of putting back together? Or, am I better off pulling the motor and going about it a whole different way? maybe a swap for a used one? I can't afford a new one, I wish I could. Thanx for any words of wisdom.

I don't think any valves touched or bent, but will check to be certain. Of course then again if I could find a good used one I would swap it out and with the used one it would be out of the car and I could go thru it all before putting it in. Since it cost more in gas does it mean the 2.4 engine lasts longer? I just bought a Honda accord 2011 LX. Previously, I was driving a Nissan Sentra 1.8s, which was a great sporty feel while the Honda is on the heavier side.

@@repairvehicle Thanks! The engine looked good for 118k miles, the oil didn´t smell burned or like petrol, we didn´t see any sludge and the cap had no carbon on it. He used good quality oil but didn´t change it after. Maybe it´s because it drives on Liquefied Petroleum Gas after the car is warm enough so there´s less petrol that could be in the oil.

Almost 100k miles on our '11 Accord 2.4L and oil changes per maintenance minder or about 8,500-10,000 miles every oil change. No noticeable oil consumption between oil changes. Was dealership serviced first seven years but been using Mobil 1 high mileage synthetic oil since I started doing my own oil changes. Been using the car more often now that my household is down to two cars and have to drive to the office more times so will probably change oil more often now. Oil and filter supply will likely last through to the end of the decade lol!

Honda makes the best smaller four-cylinder engines in the world is not even close. The bigger the engine the more the power and more of the power the more of the problems the reason why are 18 and so freaking reliable is because it's a very simple single overhead cam inline 4-cylinder there's not much to it and it's got lots of over-engineering a high-strength aluminum forged engine components it's got cracked forged connecting rods it's got the Pistons are coated in some special coating to reduce friction even more I mean when you add all that up with Hondas proven reliability if you run this car and maintain it it will show The Love to you back try buying a car for 185,000 mi and run it for two-and-a-half years without having any issues but add replace the starter because after that many miles that's a lot of starts
