Good review for this honda, as a purely domestic user, i would have loved a honda hrx, but the price is way out of my range, 1300 euro. after watching a good few reviews of different mowers, i finally went with a weibang wb537scv 3 in 1, the first thing i noticed was how well built it is, shaft drive, no belt, for just over half the price of the honda, it weighs nearly 50kg, but it is so well balanced and easy to turn, professionals are giving it great reviews. That is what swung it for me.

I’m currently in the process of deciding on buying a new mower, hence decided to preview what people say on YT. Thanks for your great review of the Honda (one on my list for consideration) I appreciate your practical user insights and ‘niggles’, as you rightly say they may be small, but can become annoying over time and after prolonged use. The leaves ‘snow ploughing’ tendency would only become apparent during autumn and is valuable pre-knowledge for me as I have several large oak trees nearby that inevitably find their way onto my lawn.

I have a Hayter and a Honda, I bought the Honda because I cant get on with the Hayter. If the grass is dry and not too thick, the Hayter does a nice job. But if its wet or long, forget it. They both get clogged, BUT the Honda is built for mulching as well so it tends not to spit too much grass out when clogged, whereas the Hayter gets clogged and spits the grass everywhere and refuses to cut. I have the Harrier 48 Autodrive ES VS InStart, took the bag off to do a lawn and still got clogged, it does have a split roller. On the plus side, the{EDIT dandle

Hello Lee I started out over 20 years ago contracting ,and I initially went with Mountfield mowers but I just thought they were built for domestic use ,and certainly couldn't cope for professional use.i then upgraded to hayter mowers was optimistic but one let me down with engine problems kept cutting out ,and the other just gave up completely was so disappointing after hearing good reports from other people. So third time lucky went with honda and never looked back,I love them and wouldn't swap them for anything else.fabulous engine and mighty reliable and make a lovely job.

I love these videos. The Hayter 48. Not 46. At 2:45 you mentioned the biggest problem I find with hondas. Have you got your Honda engine revved up? The governor spring adjusted to rev more. The Hayter 41 pro is great. Engine. Collection. Stripe. Spilt roller. Cut quality. The 48 pro is a great machine but last time I looked they weld the rollers together. You can cut them down the middle. Hayter might not agree. But I have seen it done. The 56 pro is great. Split roller and in my honest opinion the best cut quality. I have used hondas with new blades and Hayters and the Hayter does the best cut. However. The 48/56 pros do clog up on damp lawns. When they are new and clean etc they do well. Once they start getting clogged it’s a bit of a nightmare to be honest. They have fins at the front underneath that help with the leaves. Don’t plough like Honda. I would personally go with the 41 pro as the engine is strong. 4.5hp. Spilt roller and great performance. However it will take longer to get jobs done obviously compared to a 19” mower. And the stripes will go funny until it’s mowed the lawn a few times. Might be worth blowing it all over to roughen it up first to help print the stripes. Hope that helps you Lee. Take care

I can only talk about the old 48(2017) hayter but they have the same problems with not picking up and blocking up . Having used both the Honda 476 and the Hayter 48, I do prefer the Hayter. The Honda is a little too slow, only has 5 cutting heights and the bag is difficult to empty. Having said that, the Honda's roller is made of metal - unlike the Hayter, which has a split plastic roller, that breaks after a while and is a bastard to replace and fit.

Great review, very interesting! I'm a domestic user so my mower is only used a couple of hours a week but I like things to work properly! I bought a shaft drive 448 lawnflite pro in 2004 which had the original (made in Japan?) Honda engine - this has been brilliant and still starts with a single gentle pull. It did use to clog when the grass was wet. Unfortunately the drive now jumps a bit despite being adjusted to the max and with a new gearbox costing £400 plus fitting It was time for a new mower. (I can see the drive issue would be a big ££ problem for you pros using the machine all the time!) I researched and ended up buying a Weibang Legacy 48 pro BBC. This cuts well and is very solidly built. The Kawasaki engine starts first pull. However it is VERY heavy at 66kg versus 42kg for the Honda tested here. Also it has a long wheel base so tends to scalp if set low. I'm going to give it to my son !! So I have been looking again for a new mower. Narrowed it down to the Honda HRX 476 QX or the Hayter Harrier 48 BBC. Then my 2 local dealers both said they do not sell the Hayter 48 BBC because the BBC system on the Hayter is rubbish. They said to get the 48 ES VS - which looks like a neat system. Then I read reviews on the Honda and they are very mixed, sometimes criticising build quality, reliability and performance etc. So now my brain hurts ! I do like having a BBC (Roto-stop) so the Honda looks like the best option? Unless I just get another Lawnflite pro and hope the Subaru engine is ok? Like Chrome book says - there is no perfect mower. Any advice would be appreciated
