The issue I’m having is hard shift into reverse and then a whistle or whine at 40 to 50 mph not super loud but it’s there , forward gears shift well and normal , replaced all engine and trans mounts helped but reverse still clunks sometimes , I just don’t wanna become stranded . Question, i bought a rebuilt transmission for my 06 odyssey, drove it for less than 3000k miles, unfortunately the warranty expired. I stopped driving my car for like 6 months. When i drove it, the P0741 code came on, torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck. '04 Odyssey BYBA. Did all this, put it together on top of the torque converter so the torque converter was meshed with the mainshaft, the pump, and arm, as I went, made a bracket to hold the torque converter onto the transmission, bolted the transmission onto the engine, installed the mounts, etc., rolled the subframe and engine under the body, mounted everything, fed the electrical harness back into the cabin and connected the three plugs to the computer, connected everything, adjusted the shift cable by the book, starting from neutral - there is a neutral detent on the range selector switch - started the engine, pulled it out of park and the wheels did not turn. No rotation in any of the drive positions either. The gear position lights synchronize to the range selector switch, Park, Reverse, Neutral, D, D3, D2, D1, but this BYBA will not turn a wheel forward or reverse. What did I do wrong in the transmission rebuild? Yes, I did replace the sprague clutch.

Im a few years late to this video, I'm a Tech at a Honda dealer. We don't do rebuilds for transmissions we just order a reman unit and slap it in. So I don't get to see the internals when one fails. My question is why do the Honda transmissions fail so often. You being a obvious stilled transmission rebuilder having your hands on multiple with different points of faliure, is it just Honda having a crap design or a mix of that and improper maintenance. @billspangler26854 жыл бұрын
Upon a few minutes of research, I've found that Pilots can be hard to find aftermarket cv axles that fit it correctly. I would definitely not drive or attempt to drive it and buy an OEM honda cv that you match to your VIN- NOT the engine type like auto zone or other parts store yokels ask you. There are sometimes multiple transmission types in a model year, and i believe the 06 refresh got a slightly different trans and the j35z1 engine instead of the j35a9 like I have.

Derrick Darrell Assembly lube specifically made for transmission assembly is perfectly fine as it is soluble in transmission fluid at operating temp, ie; it melts quickly upon first warmup. Regular transmission fluid is fine to use also, however, doesn’t ‘stick’ as well and makes a mess IMO. Clutches are like sponges. Once they’ve absorbed all the fluid they can, the rest is just extra and messy. You can dunk a fully soaked sponge in a swimming pool, doesn’t make it absorb any more liquid, just makes it ‘feel’ wetter and drip everywhere. Your call.. as soon as the case is reinstalled, filled to the correct level, and started on the vehicle the fluid fills the clutches almost immediately. It’s not like your starting the car in gear, no risk of dry-running them especially under any significant load. Transmission fluid doesn’t evaporate like water, remember this. Great video nonetheless!
