My accord is 9 years old and I’ve had it since 2017 and never did a coolant flush 👀 I already ordered the type 2 Honda antifreeze and the Lilly funnel. The dealership always recommended it when I had the free oil change with the warranty but they wanted almost $200 but luckily I’m having no issues with the car and it’s at 140k miles. Thanks for the informative video and helping regular people save some money because times are tough and I’m very appreciative for your content 😊

My accord only took somewhere between 1 and 1.25 gallons. Also, the fan kicked on shortly after startup when the car wasnt even warmed up yet. I used a lily and besides the few bubbles that came out when I squeezed the hose, the coolant level in the lily didn't really go down after the initial fill. Thanks for this. What does it mean if the 2017 2.4L Accord (70Kmi) was running for 45min but no fan cycling occured?? Is this a bigger issue I need to address? 60⁰ outside when I did it, full-blast hottest heat in cabin as car idled. (I did rev the engine to 3500rpm for 30sec every 5min or so though, and squeezed hoses, and rocked car back and forth up and down)
@RBTheMechanic2 жыл бұрын
No as long it dosent over heat just re check the coolant once or twice it will suck it in and make sure it’s cold when u check it
@issaalmasoudi15022 жыл бұрын
Maybe the radiator fan motor need to replace
@LiveTheLimit Жыл бұрын
Did you ever resolved the issue? I changed coolant today for my 2020 Honda civic EX 1.5L turbo, and the coolant won’t drain to the coolant hose, and the hose feels soft to the touch even when the car is at operating temp. The fan never kicked on either. Also my rpm seems a bit higher than before.

@@RBTheMechaniccan you see my comment above and see if you can help? Thanks

@@RBTheMechanicI drained all the coolant, and then put coolant in the system again, but seems like the system is not allowing coolant to circulate. My coolant hose is soft to the touch, and coolant from reservoir is not draining. The car is not overheating, but the rpm seems higher than before

What's your thoughts on flushes vs drain and fill? I know for Honda the coolant is supposed to last a really long time. I also can't find any recommended service intervals/frequencies on how often/when to change it. Thanks..
@RBTheMechanic2 жыл бұрын
Flushing is for those who never did the coolant change and slacked on coolant changes now it’s so bad u need to power flush it to get it all cleaned out which prolly wount even clean out drain and fill it u do regularly ur system should stay clean and it’s simpler to keep ur coolant up to date
@jakec56182 жыл бұрын
@@RBTheMechanic Yea, i'm trying to stay on top of it so can ensure longevity of car and parts. I just read somewhere that the flushes can sometimes push gunk into places it shouldn't be (where it ordinarily would not get to). That's why I was wondering which would be better for regular maintenance considering the owner does it on a regular schedule. But I see what you're saying. Agree tho, better to do preventative maintenance than get hit later with an even bigger repair bill. Do you know what's a good interval for coolant changes? I've read varying things on when to change it...So a liil unsure on how often to do it.

@@jakec5618 I recommend every 60k miles or 2 years yeah I never through of the kunk pushed to heater core yupp I wouldn’t do pressure flush

Unfortunately it is a partial replacement. Some antifreeze remained and you just mixed old one with a new one.
@RBTheMechanic6 ай бұрын
Yes as long as u do it regularly it’s no problem

Hey RB! Thanks for the video. Just flushed the old Coolant and added new one, when I went to turn the engine on the fan turned on twice as usual. Left the heat on and fan high but it does not seem to be heating up. After 20 min it heat up for a few minutes and then the air was cold again. Did I do something wrong? What do you advice I should do?

Do you really need the OEM antifreeze I notice other videos people using Supertech Honda antifreeze blue
@RBTheMechanic2 ай бұрын
I would go oem same cost and better
@tripjet9992 жыл бұрын
Incomplete, since you neglected to flush the dirty coolant out of the engine. Overflow reservoir should be washed (inside and out), prior to adding new coolant, too.

I’m sorry but not 100% come out but like I said u just got do it on time so ur up to date other wise it will always be I completly u less some one want to dismantle the whole engine block and get every drop out then I will consider it 100%

Is it a waste to clean the radiator with water and radiator flush for 20 minutes, then drain and fill with coolant afterwards? I do that every 30,000 miles.
@RBTheMechanic2 жыл бұрын
Totally waste if u do flush regularly u should have to do cleaning like that

No this is only to keep engine cool and give u hear. … put the ac on see if both sides get cold? If only one side is cold then there is issue with other side that hot check ur air blend door motor to see if it operates

Also i saw you mentioning You have worked on Infiniti/Nissan vehicles. I have 2016 QX50 3.7L AWD. Is the flush similar to Honda? I do have the "lily" as well i just purchased.

On these honda u don’t need a funnel just fill it up till it can’t take anymore then fill up reservoir and close caps and drive for 30 minutes then cool it off for good hour or more and re top the fluid should be good enough
