CLICK SHOW MORE: Honda Accord Brake / Tail Light Remains On Illuminated - Won't Turn Off Fix Repair Help Troubleshoot Will Not Turn Off.
You might need a "Brake Pedal Stop Pad" Cost: $2.00 - 5.00
Part Number: 46505-SA5-000
(or...71045 *from a comment below)
Google: "Honda Accord Brake Pedal Stop Pad"
Quick Fix: If you need to do a quick fix, use cardboard, put a bolt in the hole, or tape a "spacer" such as two pennies, to the pedal and this will get you down the road.
Stop the Battery from Draining: pull the plug off the switch at the brake pedal; or pull the fuse at the fuse box in the engine..see the related video.
NOTE: It's faster to just go to your local parts store; they will likely have the part you need.
Interesting fact...KZbin stats show this video get more hits/sikes May through September. itsa very clear graph. My part broke during the summer months.

You saved me! My landlord awoke me at 1:30AM announcing my break lights on my 99 Accord were on. Pitch black out, I pulled the “Stop” fuse and set my phone alarm to awake me at daybreak. I found the broken plastic on the car carpeting and knew. Then I put the fuse back in place under the hood; went to the break pedal; taped a penny in the plastic stopper’s former spot and drove to AutoZone. They were out of stock of part 74015 but the female clerk who once owned a Honda guided me to another part - a flat rubber stopper with a cone shaped end and her coworker depressed the break peddle for me as ol’ me got down on a blanket, reached up to the break light switch and put the stopper in place. Your video was the first one I turned to! 😊

Thank you for this video. We just followed your advice ... and went to the local auto shop and purchased the part and put it in...and the lights turned off! At first we did not push the stop pad all the way in and it fell out. We used some pliers to make sure the stop pad was pushed all the way in. Works perfect now!

Thank you for your informative video. My husband of 25 years passed away 7 days ago and he was the auto problem solver. After finding the lights staying on & having a melt down, I gathered my thoughts went to a trusted neighbor who told me always go to KZbin. We watched it together so I would understand what was wrong, where the fuse box was & how to pull & replace fuse. I'll get the part today and neighbor will crawl in to install. Your KZbin video & calm explanation and my neighbors step by step with you instructions have calmed my fears. Thank you very much!

My neighbor called just a few minutes ago with this issue. I wasn't quite sure what to do (and I was half asleep already when he called me)....I quickly referred to Google, found you at the top of my results and watched your video. Bam, spot on!! For now we took out the fuse (I would have came to that conclusion anyway but your "in the meantime" part of the video helped with the mention of "stop" fuse - I would have looked for "brake"). Thank you soooo much! Absolute help.

Thanks, esp for the clear photo of the stopper placement! RELATED TIPS: Instead of pulling the fuse and driving without brake lights (chancing a rear-end collision, and/or a traffic citation); I just pulled the battery cable off when I parked (then put it back on when I was ready to drive again). BUT BEWARE, disconnecting your battery will erase your radio settings, so be sure to have your radio codes handy (ideally printed on a label inside your glove box)! RADIO RESET CODE TIPS: Some Honda dealers may provide your radio code for free, but most charge $15-35; Auto zone can provide your radio code for FREE, by using the engine analyzer!

Thank you Google, KZbin, and this channel. Had this problem last night, disconnected one battery post so my battery wouldn't drain. Went to dealership and paid a little over $10 for the "brake pedal switch bumper" (next time I'm in AutoZone I'll ask what they charge) and fixed this in two minutes. Had to turn the engine on in order to depress the brake pedal enough (as mentioned elsewhere) to stick in the bumper. It's a bit of a tight squeeze underneath there, but the job was so easy with these directions. Thanks!

@@doitmyselfhomerepair1652 Thank you for showing the actual part one needs for this, but especially for showing the location of the fuse. The schematic spells out "power window motor" and "power seat fore/aft" (neither of which I have anyway), but only puts "stop" for what should rightfully say "brake lights"! Anyway I use a plastic screw from the back of the trunk where the brake lights are. It works great I put it in there and the brake light went off. I press the brake light and came back on. I thought I would have to pay a lot of money and waste time off of work. But this save me a a lot of time and money at a machic. This was awesome. Just got off the phone with the Acura dealership who wanted $97 to repair this. After watching video, I ended up sliding a plastic chip clip on the end of the bar with the hole (it's about 3 pennies worth thick and covers the hole)! Until i get the permanent replacement, I'm good to go!

Thank you so much for this vid. I got to work this morning and one of my co-workers told me that tail light were still on after I had been at work for about an hour. I went down and was amazed that they were lit up bright red and I could not get them to shut off. My co-worker mentioned something about this possibly being the problem and I researched and found your video. This was exactly my problem. After reading some of the other comments, I think that I am going to use the bolt and nut option. A more permanent fix. Thanks so much for this quick and easy fix.

Thank you so much for the posting this fix! Also, for showing what fuse to take out in the interim in waiting for the new part. I didn't want to disconnect the battery cables after every time I drove the car. Sure enough, I found the plastic pieces broken in the floor. I was walking back to my car in a parking lot and noticed my brake lights were on. I thought, could it be a reflection or was someone in my car!?! I was thankful there was not a thief in my car, but frustrated finding I had a new car problem to fix. This easy-tof-follow video saved me a fortune compared to what the stealership would have charged. Thanks again!

One tip I would like to add since it is really difficult to get the plastic point to pop into the hole (96 Accord)---I grabbed the crayon tip with a pair of needle nose pliers and guided it into the hole. Used this method after several failed attempts using my fingers. There's not a lot of room to work down there! Thanks so much for the video. The part was $3.95 at my local Honda dealer.

Thanks for the video brother man. I got off work at 11:30pm and went to my 93 accord in the parking lot and the tried to start the car. My batt was dead because i did not know the break light stayed on and drained my batt. Once i got a jump and started the car thats when I noticed tbe break light was on and wouldnt turn off. I had to drive over an hour home on the freeway with my break lights beaming. Embarrasing. When I got home I u tubed your video and fixed the problem. You are the man.

Thank you for this! I have a 2001 Civic and had to use the black one vs. white. But thank God it was a super easy $8 fix. For anyone aprehensive about doing it, it's literally turning the panel knob, popping it off, putting the stopper in, putting the panel back and done. I'm not into cars or fix them. I'm actually a girly girl and I was cool with fixing it.

9 years later and your video helped me greatly. Same exact issue, found the old one shattered in the floor board. Went down to O'Reilly and got the exact product you showed in your video, but I couldn't get the white one to snap in, so I ended up using the black one. Should I try to get the white one to snap in?
