I have the exact same noise on my 2013 Honda pilot. I also replaced the timing belt about 12,000 miles ago. I took it to mechanic and he tells me it's the timing belt. The tensioner was not replaced only timing belt. I have a feeling they are trying to scam me as they are trying to charge me $1800 when I already fixed it for $1200 in another city. Since it's the exact same noise i think I'm going to take my chances and just have someone replace the tensioner and hopefully the noise gets fixed.

I have a similar knocking in the engine bar near my timing chain area 2012 Honda Accord EXL, but it only does it sometimes when I crank the car first thing in the morning,when it's cold and then once it's warm, the noise goes away. Is that a symptom of timing chain or tensioner?
@JPrez-io6qj Жыл бұрын
V6 version? If so, possibly the belt. 4 cyc has a chain so that's unlikely to be it - chain issues are rare on the 4 cyc assuming proper oil change. Could always be the serpentine belt/belt tensioner but thats easy enough to check.
@GeetarPsycho Жыл бұрын
@@JPrez-io6qj yes v6, I had a couple mechanics look at it, they said the timing belt sounds fine, once it's warm, but in the morning it knocks a bit hard but only 45° and below, it'll last 2 to 3 minutes and gradually go away, but when it's 50° or higher there is no noise or knocking.

@@GeetarPsycho As a former tech, I'd lean towards one of three items (I can't obviously hear it, but maybe you should upload a video of it?) - but timing belt tensioner, check to see if its wet/listen with a stethoscope, replace. Other areas for cold engine noise/knock is oil pressure/oil delivery - depending on year - vtec solenoid near oil filter has screens that clog and/or valve chatter valve clearance issues.
