This is very helpful and I wish I had known about it sooner. I lost my keys yesterday after leaving them in the top box lock. About 2 miles later I noticed the key light flashing on the dash. Of course silly me stopped the bike and it wouldn’t start again. So I had to walk back to where I was last stopped at and luckily I found them at the side of the road.

I've owned mine for nearly 2 years. At about 6 months I had the bike lock me out while out at a party. I used this method to open and start my bike. I had been having issues with the bike not recognizing the key for some weeks before. I reported this to my local Honda dealer and they put a warranty claim in for a replacement. Honda agreed to the claim. All fixed and I've never had any issue subsequently. However, I spoke to the mechanic who did the work and he gave me a rundown on what was replaced. So we obviously needed a new ignition switch also 2 new replacement keys and a replacement ECU, add to that large parts of the body work from front to back being removed to swap the parts. If you are out of warranty this is a £1600 + VAT job. After 2 years has passed and you are out of warranty this could easily be half the value of the scooter, 3 to 4 years and you have to start thinking is it worth fixing. The lame argument that its convenient to have the keys in you pocket and not have to rummage around in your pockets is an aspect I could do without as I've never had an issue with a boring key. Add to the inconvenience of not just having the key but the bulk of having carry the black seat opening key, the card with the key code on it a spare key battery just so you can make sure that's not an issue I would advise that you keep a copy of the emergency start sequence as I can guarantee that you wont remember what you were meant to do at 10.30 on a rainy night. Not so convenient now. After all of this I have to say that the ADV for me has been the best all-around scooter I've owned but I will be looking to replace it once the warranty has run out and try to find a scooter with a normal bog standard key. Even cheap scooters such as the Honda 125 cub have the same system and would be a technical right off in insurance terms in about one and a half years.

Well just picked up my 2024 ADV 350 yesterday this is good to know, Question the dealer only gave me one key fob is that customary, they all spoke Thai.
@zootius2 ай бұрын
@@daveclarke5766 AFAIK a new bike will have two fobs and two emergency seat openers. In the UK at least, this seems to be the case. Did they give you the tag with the emergency code on it?

I bought my ADV 350 in Thailand. They only gave me one smart key and 2 emergency seat openers along with the emergency code tag. This issue has happened to me twice in the year I have owned the bike. I left it 5 minutes or so and in each case it came back to life but this solution is good to know. My owners manual is in Thai 😊. I have copied the code and procedure to my phone

@@mrhouse3826 There's a magnet in the hex head that is also required for it to work. I think the Suzuki Burgman has a similar mechanism. But yeah, I wouldn't keep anything really valuable under the seat.

@@grayman999 Fair enough. All I would say is that I've yet to encounter problems with judder, noise and keyless signal jamming yet, but that's not to say that it doesn't happen for other people. The thing I try to keep in mind is that people tend to only moan on the internet when they are having a problem. There may be a silent majority of ADV owners who haven't had an issue. NT1100 is a great bike though.
@podunkman2709Ай бұрын
Most of these 'problems' are because of dead battery. The battery MUST be replaced at least once every two years.

Change the batteries in your key regularly and you won't have 'problems'. The battery MUST be replaced at least once every two years.
