But usually see 180 or 60 degrees. There must be something special about the boxer layout. And 60 is better for packaging. And even 90 is used when starting from a V8 design. 120 degrees 6 cylinder is very rare engine.

Scotty, longtime owner of inline 6 BMW’s here. Their M30 and M30B engines are legendary for their reliability, smoothness and performance and I’ve personally worked on BMW’s with over 500,000 miles on them. They were great engines UNTIL they put turbo’s on them. Then reliability went in the toilet and maintenance costs went through the roof. And I KNOW that you know why. That is why I am so surprised to see you extolling the “virtues” of turbocharged inline 6 in these vehicles. When something goes wrong, and something always goes wrong, on a turbocharged engine the repair costs can be astronomical. Turbos are just an easy bolt on appliance that car makers use so that they can brag about their power output. You always pay twice for turbos. Once when you buy them and again when you replace them.

Hopefully this spells the end of small displacement turbocharged engines in passenger cars and trucks.

Kia and Hyundai should not be mentioned with Toyota and Mazda. I would rather buy a neglected Mazda than any Kia Hyundai .

Changing from SOHC VTEC to GDI DOHC would be a bad idea, you give up a lot of low rpm torque and the new engine is heavier, and history shown GDI engines wont last

Lucky if the V6 lasts long as it is.

If you want a fun to drive unassuming pocket rocket to drive go with the Honda. If you want reliability and dependability go with a non-turbo Toyota. If you’re confused and can’t make up your mind, go with a Mazda. Any way you can’t go wrong.

Haven’t the Mazda engines got problems I’ve seen posts about them blowing up before 30,000 miles,

Bet that Ferrari needed an insane maintenance schedule to maintain that engine, vs Hondas that needed minimal I bet.

So close to perfect…. But the performance REALLY lags behind. Just this year I was looking at a CX 70 and a CX 90. I ended up going with a Ford edge ST because it felt. More sporty and had more horsepower and torque.(and from a significantly smaller 2.7 L V6.) If Mazda manages to get a 400 hp out of such a large SUV that would be all over it! …. an unpopular opinion of mine, I would rather have a non-hybrid system. I don’t wanna deal with batteries and additional repairs a few years into ownership.
