Fantastic video diving into the intricacies of legendary engines! Makes you realize how much engineering marvel is packed under the hood. But can we take a moment to appreciate how engine technology has come full circle? We've gone from the 426 Hemi being iconic to the Valkyrie revving up to 11,000 RPMs, and now Konigsegg's 2-liter inline 3 TFG with 600 bhp! Also, who else agrees we should get an episode comparing the "advertised" horsepower of classic muscle cars to what they actually put out on a dyno with today's standards? That would be a fascinating deep-dive!

To put that 2,200hp engine at the end into better context, I worked on a very big tow boat, it had two 4,500 HP diesels. So that car alone has a quarter of the power needed to push over 40 loaded barges down the mississippi river. Each barge being 200ft long by 35ft wide, that's over a quarter mile of steal out in front of you. And that car makes 1 full 1/4 of the HP needed to do something like that. Insane.
@DuxAT
@DuxAT Жыл бұрын
You do have to account the fact that Horsepower is a product of speed AND torque. Even though it has 1/4 of the HP, it has much, much less torque as the engine is faster and the car is geared for speed, not torque

Haven't watched the video but looking at a few comments, it seems Koenigsegg and their V8 got ignored and there's perfect reasoning afaik! But it's ok and understandable, Koenigsegg is already doing a remarkable job!

They *definitely* didn't make 200 1967 L88 Corvettes. They made like 5. They did make a total of about 200 total L88 Corvettes over the years it was available though.

@@F9109-r1e ah, I thought they only made like 5. I didn't really think about that. The 1967 L88s were mostly if not all dedicated racecars and sometimes racecars are crashed and not rebuilt because when they are new people don't think they will be important in the future, especially back then.

The Ford 427 SOHC made over 600 with dual quads....from the factory. With a single 4 barrel they made about 550

I have a model of the Ford 427 SOHC engine and the case it's in says it made 615 hp @ 7,000 rpm with a single four, 657 hp @ 7,500 rpm, with two fours. This was the most powerful factory engine of it's time, the main reason it was banned from NASCAR.

I think you guys need to do a follow up video at the Dyno, and show off what real American muscle cars actually made in power. I'd also love to see a couple modern cars like the legendary Porsche horse powers, which seem to be more than any other manufacturer. And a modern BMW, Vs an Audi and Mercedes.

I used to own some IH 345's and 392's (heavy duty truck packages). So reliable that at one time, there was a rumor that they were going to replace the NIST atomic clocks with them for internet time (ha ha!).I feel so left out here on those. So sad. Also, 70's era Toyota Land Cruisers are not present. The one I used to drive was used for field research in very challenging conditions. Best thing: 45 mph max speed down the highway. 45 mph up a telephone pole. Hard to beat.

Would love to see a video about the German power wars of the 80's into the early 2000's, when cars like the Merc 2.8 Evo 2 started a trend that culminated in Audi putting the twin turbo V10 from an R8 into an estate car (station wagon as you guys say in the US). You barely see them any more, but as a teenager I dreamed of owning one of those or a C63. Incredible sounds

The 1970 Buick 455 Stage 1, with 510lbft of torque, made the most torque from a production engine until the Viper was released. There was an available stage 2 package that could be ordered from dealers as well that made over 500hp.

Whats crazy is they were getting 10-15mpg out of those 540 horsepower engines. Mercedes benz years later in the 90s was getting that gas mileage out of a 390 horsepower V12, and you had to pay over $200k (so over 400k in modern dollars) for an AMG version 7.2 liters just to get 500-550hp

The SSC Tuatara shouldn’t have been included on this list. It isn’t a production car. There is no concrete spec for it. They turn up boost and modify it depending on what fuel is available. They are essentially modifying the car every time they test it. How many of those cars did they even produce? 1? 5? 10? That isn’t a production car at all. It is a kit car that they assemble for you and are trying to claim is a “production” car.
