Riding my 1972 Honda C50 on a summers day. As you can see I am braver than the riders at the Isle of man TT because I keep my bike at full throttle for 5 minutes at a time!

Crossing junctions was as sweat, but it taught you patience on the roads, that has stood me in good stead over the years. Was cheap transport getting me to an airfield for flying lessons in the 1970's. It's funny how we feel we are going fast from engine noise.

Wow I haven't looked at this since I posted it and didn't realise so many people were interested. I still do a 10 mile commute on this cub and its going strong. Top speed on the flat on a wind free day and checked with the gps in my phone is 34mph (55kmh). Down a hill and making a noise very much like the piston is trying to escape is about 40mph (64kph). But point it at any sort of incline or head wind and you're down to 2nd gear then and struggling to overtake cyclists. Currently installing a yx125 engine hopefully to give me a 55mph (88kmh) top speed, without making any permanent modifications to the frame so everything can be put back to standard in the future, so keep looking for future videos when she's up and running.

Kenneth Noisewater I've got a 1977 C50 which has the higher revving, more powerful engine. It'll do 60 - 65 km/h with a light head wind. With tailwind it'll 80 km/h easily. Though, for short sprints it's fine, one shouldn't do it for longer duration. Love your driving. Stay safe and have fun with that Honda.

BEZ 203 Nope it still has the original engine. They only modification done to it is that the ignition retarder has been removed (it's only purpuse is to limit the mopeds speed to 45 km/h) which WILL improve the engines durability a LOT. The ignition retarder is known for burning out valves so removing is a must. Aside from that it is completely original. I bring it to some classic moped meetings. I'm not even thinking of doing an engine swap since it is illegal for a moped to go faster than 45 km/h, which makes an engine swap absolutely useless...

Gary Dodgson The rules in the Netherlands are a bit different and it meant the C50 was qualified as a moped. Which meant it had to be restricted (just do a quick search on Honda C50h nl which is the dutch version) and that one did come with small modifications such as a longer throttle valve and an ignition retarder and it cae with bicycle cranks and pedals to conform with the regulations. and we never even got the soloseat, all Dutch C50h's came with a buddyseat. I think we only had the C310 and shortly after the C50h which was only made for three years from 1971 to 1974. Even the Honda SS50 was so modified it become it's own model line called the CD50

Great video - looks like a lot of fun! I've recently bought a Honda PC50 pedal 'n' pop moped (1970 H reg) on ebay. It's fun and I can legally ride mopeds on my car licence because I have category P on my licence. Anyway, now I've caught the bug I've been looking at C50's because I'd really like one, but can't find a definitive answer on whether they are classed as a moped or small motorcycle. I know I can't ride a C90 because they exceed 50cc. I know the C50 comply with being under 50cc, but do you know what the maximum design speed of the C50 is? Or better still, if you have your log book handy, does is say Moped in part D5? Cheers, Neil

Correct oil grade is stamped on the engine. It's sae 20 in colder conditions and sae 30 in warm conditions. A modern multi grade which works is 20w 50 classic mineral oil

Be sure not to use synthetic as the disc slips with it.. you will think that your disc has worn off. Use mineral Multigrade etc.
