In this episode I ride my trusty old Honda C90 Cub over the Forth Road Bridge, through the Fife badlands, through Glenshee and over the Cairnwell Pass and The Lecht, Scotland' two highest roads. I meet Ferg, Old Mike and my Dad in Portmahomack before riding up the east side of the NC500 to John O Groats, with a wee detour to take in Glen Loth.

Sadly that's now hot it should look. Thankfully there's less and less support for the Grouse moors. It's weird that folk can get pleasure from shooting a bird you can practically walk up and touch. It says a lot about them though.

@@yodagoat I don't eat farm raised poultry, we get all of our pheasant/grouse/quail/duck from mother nature. We don't take birds sitting in the water or walking around. Do you not eat meat? I didn't know.. .Wasn't trying to ruffle your feathers.
@yodagoat
@yodagoat 9 ай бұрын
Feathers are unruffled! Most of the folk who shoot grouse in Scotland don't do it for food and unfortunately it has a horrendous impact on how Scotland looks. It should be far more beautiful than it is. Luckily there's still a few places you can see how it once was, and the toffs that do the grouse shooting are losing hold on the land.

@@yodagoat I had no idea that it was problematic over there. Just so I'll be educated, what is the activity doing to cause damage to the countryside? Over here in the US, The biologists have heavily studied the impact of hunting pressure and found surprisingly that it does not have a significant impact on the bird numbers (which I was surprised by) rather, the factors of winter conditions, ground cover overgrazing by cattlemen and loss from wildfire and if it is a wet soaking springtime when the chicks are still not fully fledged are the cheif limiting factors... and more recently West nile virus was hard on their populations... We have to be willing to skip a season now and again if it was really tough on the birds just to help them in the rough times. But overall, it is how a lot of rural folks feed their families or at least augment their food stocks. Deer, elk, moose. caribbou, antelope, bison, waterfowl, wild pig, bear, and mountain lion are all excellent table fare, hormone and pharmaceutical free and able to live a life outside of the confines of a crowded cage, and reproduce as normal wild things are supposed to. They are cherished and we have a real culture that celebrates them as wild free parts of our ecosystem here. There are numerous organizations that contribute billions of dollars (and from hunting licenses sales) that do habitat improvement projects to augment and improve habitat and acquire lands (millions of acres) that will be taken off the table for human development. Streamside area enhancement, adding cover for fish to do better when they are young, building nesting platforms near marshlands, banding birds to gain more data as to their lifecycles and where they go... Maybe we just do things differently here in those regards... . Many folks involved with hunting and fishing here are just average people, it is not a "high society activity for royalty". it is the average guy trying to put food on the table and get outdoors with his dog and kids.

Mikey, absolutely loved it. Thanks for taking the time to make the fly-past shots. They take ages but make the film so much more interesting. This is all my local stomping ground. I put up a film about a month ago where i took my old BSA C15 over the Cromarty Ferry. I often do Glen Loth and have a film of taking a Chinese Scooter over it. Love your films. Aye, just the throw over bags. You need to make sure they don't rub on the bike though or you'll get a hole in them. If you look at the 8.50 mark on this video you'll see my solution. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn66lXWOjrWaqNEsi=_hHlDRJnqwrpHI1W
