I can't explain why, but I'm fascinated by classic economy cars!

Had a 1978 Civic for a while; decent little car! Got me around in Seattle snowy weather quite well; basic, but reliable!

Looks like the actor pushing the yellow car in the first scene is Academy Award nominee, Michael Lerner.

Without a catalytic converter? Then the EPA forced Honda to insert them.

IEJ7to1 *IEJ7654321* kinda. The restrictions got more stringent to the point where CVCC alone couldn’t pass without one. By this point though the shortages of fuel were over, and unleaded was available regularly everywhere.

The secret to buying a Honda is to stay away from anything that has a V-6, a turbo, 4WD, or an auto/cvt transmission. A Fit, Civic or an Accord with a manual transmission are the most reliable Hondas you can buy!

I used to have a Honda Element with the real-time all-wheel-drive system which really only activated when the front wheels sliped. That system was Fairly reliable as long as you change the differential fluid.

This ad had the paradoxical effect of making me want that 128 and Rabbit. All three in this ad were landmark small cars in a way comparable Datsuns Renaults Mazdas and Toyotas were not.

Oh, I don't agree here, the Renault R5 was definately a landmark vehicle, maybe not popular in the USA but it was a gigantic seller for Renault all over the world and was in production 25 years. I bought one new in 1978.

Yellow car I believe was a FIAT 128 or 124, Brown car was a VW Golf (Rabbit) MKI Diesel.

Yes, and none of those were big cars.

It is a 128, the rear window was shaped differntly: on the 124 it goes all the way to the luggage compartiment, while on the 128 there is a stripe of metal in between.

They lost the plot after the early 90s for both the Civic and Accord.

I'd have bought the Rabbit and Fiat....as unreliable Fiats were, they handled better than BMWs and Rabbits run forever. Civics felt claustrophobic & rusted badly.
