I know drum breaks are extremely common and Honda probably didn’t come up with this stuff on their own, but what an elegant design. Not to say it’s super safe, but it’s so simple it’s hard to imagine anything ever going mechanically wrong.

Thanks for making this video. I'm pretty sure the rear brake set up on my 1975 CB750 is the same. I thought replacing those rear brakes would be a pain in the butt, but after watching this video I'm kind of excited to do it. I'm removing the rear wheel to put on a new sprocket so I might as well do the brakes while I'm back there.

I'm restoring a 550k right now, ground up resto,taking my time,i decide to start working on the rear wheel today, the bike was parked for 30 years or so outside and inside,its rough but not terminal,once i popped the rear hub the shoe material fell out ha ha ha ha, both of them! guess thats how some people get hurt, find a bike that was parked for years, get it running without checking anything else and go for a ride,oops. Thank you much for the video,it was helpful.

Really good video. I dismantled my 73 500/4 brake today. Bit of a nightmare as cam pivot had rusted but got there in the end thanks to this video. Cheers.

Really enjoying your channel. I have some experience on an 81 Yamaha XS 650 build and now have a 77 Honda CB550 Four K3 that I have just purchased. Looking forward to maintaining it with the knowledge within these video's.

Covering the friction material with masking tape during assembly will keep it clean.

To anyone about to attempt this; well worth arcing your pads before installing them back onto your bike, plenty of info online as to how to do this. Will help to make your new brake pads actually feel like new brakes.

I'm looking for rear brake info for an 81 CB650. Do you know if this is similar?

Maybe I can get some help here, ive tried reddit and a few other places. Put some new shoes on for my vstar 650 and after i attach the new shoes on, and im reassembling everything back together on the rear wheel, the brakes WONT go into the drum itself it looks like the pads on the shoes are stopping it from fitting... ive tried everything and looked up as much as i can and i cant find an answer anywhere man

Maybe your new brake shoes are too thick? Not all replacement parts fit 100%.

Are the cb350 rear brake drum out plate universal even though from what I can tell there are 3 different ones?

Have you ever replaced the steel drum in these brakes ?
@Common-motor3 жыл бұрын
No, but we have a homemade tool to cut a fresh surface if they're horrible! We haven't come across many that are so bad you cannot just sand the rust off though.
