I find myself hopelessly in love with the NC29. Back in the day(I was 16 in 1998) I badly wanted one but was unable to get one. Today I own several bikes including a Fireblade and BMW GS(among others) but every time I see one of these I cant help to check it out. The CBR400RR NC29 is maybe not the fastest nor the most capable sportbike but it is more importantly a DREAM bike and that makes for all the difference in the world.

I have owned my CBR400RR for nearly 30 years but took a break from riding bikes for 21 years until I put it back on the road last summer, started 1st time after new battery and ignition switch, tank & carbs cleaned, did lots more to it to bring it back to like new, but wow that engine is a peach, really appreciating this bike second time round and enjoying it's performance.

That's an awesome story, I got one just because it popped up for sale. I had bigger bike but the cbr just hits that sweet spot for road riding 👌🏻

I only stopped riding when my wife & I had twins, I used to commute on it to work and found myself doing 100 on my commute daily, so I didn't want to die young and orphan the boys, so when one of my second set of twins bought his Grom I thought it would be a good idea to put it back on the road and enjoy a few rides together. It's been great riding again and I'm looking fwd to spring here in Cornwall again. Where do you ride yours Brett?@@BrettJoy

I'm in the UK, & have owned mine since 2011. Done loads of upgrades to mine including derestricting it to 130 mph. Changed the dial to mph, lithium ion battery, YSS shock, Graeme France 85 kg fork springs (his website is full of goodies for nc29's). VFR nc30 front brakes with carbone loraine pads. All short inlet trumpets on the carbs (improves performance on the early bikes). Rothmans paint job, other stuff I can't remember. Goes well, stops on its nose, & looks lovely. A keeper for sure. Got a shit ton of spares I've been stockpiling as well. Its a 1990 G reg & it's going to be on the road for years to come. Brilliantly put together little bikes, & they love being thrashed. Just make sure you change the oil & filter each year, & you'll have years of trouble free riding. Enjoy!
@BrettJoy4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing dude they truly are awesome bikes. Whats the name of that website you get your parts from?
@bullenharben99054 жыл бұрын
@@BrettJoy Ebay in general, but for performance parts, go to Graeme France, also Jap4performance. If your suspension is standard,which looking at your video it is, you'd benefit from a suspension overhaul. I'm 5"8 & 85 kg & my setup is spot on. The rear shock from a cbr 600 f2 or f3 is a direct swap, I did run one for a while, but I decided on a brand new one. I opted for a YSS which was only £250 which is a great price. I ordered one for a cbr 600 f2 knowing it would fit straight in. The spring will be stiffer to suit my weight. Loads of good used parts on Ebay. Job lots of parts come up from time to time, so snap them up when they come along. Clutch cables & throttle cables are always handy to keep in the garage just in case. Regulator/rectifiers can fail on these. My Mrs went through 3 on her nc23 in 6 years. I have a spare but haven't needed it as yet. Haven't had to touch the valve clearances in the 9 years I've had it. I balance the carbs with a carb tune every other year or so to keep the fueling sweet. Other than basic maintenance, all I've done is improve my bike to suit me. Tonnes of info on greybike.com if you need tips on modifications etc.

Thats a super hard one 🤔 a lot of people seem to like the look of the vfr more. Its hard to tell if it would out right beat it in a race tho. The vfr has good mid range but the cbr is a total screamer with all the power at the top. I plan on making a video on putting them against each other. Yesterday I bought one of these beauties for the wife, and drove it a couple of hundred kilometres home. Really fun ride, and performed beautifully in the non stop rain. At speed, all the noises blend together into one lovely noise, but at lesser speed, the main noise is a roar coming up through the fork hole. Maybe this is just because my ears are directly above the hole while riding. Do you get that noise too?
