Looked into this bike compared with the Ninja 400, Z400, KTM 390 Duke/Adventure... it just seemed the best value for money. I got my 2014 CB500F for $3200 with 30k miles, never been dropped, no ABS, "commuter" condition so a little grimey on the rear wheel and sprockets and underpanels but overall good condition -- no real scratches, no rust. Came with about $500 in useful accessories (top box, PUIG windscreen). Engine is a peach and everything works properly can't complain. Just going to change oil on this thing and run it as-is and get new tires when necessary. I'm only 155lbs so the bike is quick enough with me on it. Can hold 80mph all day on the freeway here in So Cal. Fun to ride, fun to flick around the streets, can lug it and ride it sensibly if you want to. Gives you a ton of confidence. And at the end of the day it's a Honda and I will probably resell it for more than I paid especially since cleaning it up nicely!

I miss the shafties. Early mid 80's seemed like every company had several models to choose from. I'm guessing that what did them in is the quality of the o-ring chains just kept getting better and cheaper.

Yes, my last despatch bike was a 600 Fazer. I probably had 60k on it when I sold it and the original chain was still good.

I was worried to buy mine from 2019 for 2k with 37 miles on it xD apparently it is able to handle the road for a much longer time that I thought! First bike and I'm liking it more and more!
