A friend of mine bought one of these back in the 1980's... he let me take it for a ride... Lordy.. it was awesome!..I owned a CB900F Bol D'or at the time...the CBX was like a 900 on steroids!. a really great bike
@davidmarshall125910 жыл бұрын
my mate Andy won a large sum of money on a scratchcard in the late '80's, and as a result of this he bought a cbx1000 from down south. at the time he hadn't passed his test, so he asked my Dad to go with us to fetch his new toy. so, off we went. monies were exchanged, with relevant paperwork, and we set off on our journey north to the midlands. we were in a Datsun 260z. remember them???? I bet you do. anyway, we set off and the journey home got faster and faster. we stopped for munchies about Watford gap. and then it started. from Watford gap till M1 J24 turn off it was one big race. until you hear a Datsun 260z and a cbx1000 flat out side by side, you haven't lived. music to my ears to this day. sadly, Andy or my Dad are no longer with us, but my memory of this day will never fade. the Datsun eventually went into dry storage for several years and was eventually restored to a massively high spec and still lives to this day. as for the cbx?? I hope it also still lives a happy life, to match the happy memories it left me with. for your info, I have an original Dave Jeffries 1998 TT winning R1, and another 1998 R1 in original trim. also I own an immaculate Fast Freddie Spencer Replica Honda CB900F. so I do appreciate heritage alongside good times.

Your bike sounds beautiful. Nice work to get it on the road. Ihearing it took me back to my childhood when I used to hang around and stare at such amazing machinery.

A true work of visual & acoustic art! Probably best to wear eye protection as others have noted, otherwise you're putting yourself, others, and this beautiful CBX at risk.

I like the 6 individual pipes, they look nice. I had a '79 I bought new in '80. After having a Goldwing, a Triumph Rocket III, and a Suzuki M109R, the CBX looks so small...

That is one super nice '79 CBX mate!! At the speeds that bike will reach, I'd invest in a full coverage helmet, or at least some eye protection. Take Care, Chris

I like the 296mm rotors on the early silver COMSTAR rim, but IMHO it should be the dished 296mm rotors from CB1100RB (now in replica form, for cheap, Metalgear.AU) with an 18" front wheel utilizing 'spokes' from early CM400 and a 2.5x18" Akront "NERVI" rim (40%-50% lighter than stock) with CB900/CB750/CBX dual-disc hub of course (the CM type was single disc, sadly - 'cause it's rotor bolts were rotated some 36% in other words they were 1/2 a spoke "out of phase" to the wheel itself - would've looked cool imho) Such a wheel-set, ideally paired to another early Silver Comstar & "NERVI" rim of 3.5x18"-4.25x18" ideally using a replacement hub cut from a later cast wheel bolted up to a CM400/CB400 type spoke-set for the smaller hub diameter etc, ideally a dished one-piece rotor from CB400/CM400/CX500 etc in 240mm, or perhaps the CB350F/CB400F 6-rivet composite disc in 260mm, ideally with an early CB750F1 or GL1000 first-year opposed-piston rear caliper (underslung in the case of a Gold-Wing version) cut down & re-welded or it's axle hole welded-filled & re-drilled, and again ideally some single-puck calipers perhaps those '75 REAR calipers Super-Sport and 'WING mated as a left & right pair, cut down to bolt up as FRONT calipers? Might even get away with a disguised 41mm-43mm fork, or 43mm TRAC fork for a later era version (using two RHS legs from '96+ ST1100-ABS etc etc) With ALL or at least some of these mods, the '78-'82 CBX six, OR for that matter the '79-'83 DOHC-4 ... what the heck even the '77-'78 SOHC-4 CB750F2 model, pretty much ANYTHING with Comstar wheels? Could be brought up to a more modern standard of chassis specification, ah but without sacrificing all of that vintage aesthetic - which is what got you interested in the CLASSICS in the first place, right? HELL YEAH. Just stop pulling all of this FUGLY STARBUCKS RACER NONSENSE, could we? The fugly USD forks & oversized floating rotors with the spider-web snow-flake snow-web/spiderflake center carriers, with the heavy ass 17" cast wheels, and all of this other fugly '90s Vanilla Ice Crotch Rocket SHITE......

I remember the CBX1000 coming out back in 1979 and being awestruck at the sheer size of that wonderful double overhead cam six cylinder engine. That engine still is an engineering marvel, and was the focal point of the CBX when viewed from any angle. This looks like a well looked after example, love that non standard six pipe exhaust system, very reminiscent of the Benelli Sei (A six cylinder 750 made in Italy in the 70's) The Honda CBX was the best looking, Kawasaki's Z1300 was just too big

why the hell do you need two other cylinders in addition to the very sufficient four cylinders ??? i am a one cylinder owner and if I had money to change my bike I would take just a twin and drive safely . 100 km/h as average speed is all you need to travel and have fun.
