Great one, thanks for videos on this.! - can I suggest a try on the black bolts, BJ?.. Find a satin black spray, and do some wrapping with epoxy.?.. This must be trying,.. I'm not knowing the complete finish, but can be worth trying!?

One step at a time BJ. While painstakingly long and tedious at times, the end result will justify the hard work.

Spending the money on perfecting the CBX is worthwhile with that collectable bike but original patina is the way to go with other bikes IMHO. I am one cheap MoFo. I am humbled by how organized and methodical you are.

I've had a Caswell kit for several years. They give excellent results! As an aside I own a 1980 CB 750 FA and I hade to repair all of the cam cover threads but 2 with Timeserts! Seems people don't understand what a torque setting of10 Newton Meters is!

Hard work & effort always pays off & the cbx will look awesome when it’s all finished one way to lost it as a never ending pile of parts,at some point in a restoration it starts to look like a bike again & that only gives you more motivation.super job as always guys

I do my own zinc plating. It’s a whole new hobby in itself. If you don’t want that, I would suggest buying just the chromates from caswell. The prepping and plating takes a long time, especially if you’re wiring up individual nuts and bolts. The coloured chromate is done afterwards, separately, and it’s just a dip. So you could get the parts commercially plated and then just dip them in black, or gold, yourself. You will need the pre passivate dip as well, but it’s super easy and cheap.

Those inserts are something magical, there is another youtube channel that proved how good they are and somehow you can tight them way harder than the original aluminium thread, and i did some repairs with those myself but the ones that are a coil and still worked great, but the thing with the coil ones is that is a good idea to put the hardest thread locker you can find (locktite 271 in my case) just to be sure because they dont have a proper locking like the ones you used.

Doing your own zinc plating seems to me like an excellent idea for many reasons. You control everything! Time , scheduling, quantities, quality, colour and thickness. Who else in your area does that? Obviously nobody, otherwise you wouldn't be in the situation you're currently in. Your care and quality of cleanliness on everything you do is an essential qualification for successful plating so you're already halfway there. You have a large community of enthusiasts who probably encounter the exact same problems when they are looking for someone to plate their own parts. This could become a small financially lucrative sideline to your business. I know you are pushed for time but there must be occasions when either one of you can't progress with a project because you're waiting for parts from suppliers or other workshops. The CBX has never been a deadline project and I know you want to get it as good as you possibly can. The finished project to be a fine example of what 'Brick House Builds' represents and the quality of work you do. These are just my thoughts on the subject and I'm sure whatever final decision you make will be the right one.

Glad to see good progress made on the CBX project! You will really enjoy this bike when you get it done & running. Too many people smoke down the cam cover bolts and pull all the threads out of the caps in the process. Great tutorial on installing timeserts in the threaded caps, been there & done that(not with my own CBX!). When assembling the primary jackshaft in the cases, do pay attention to timing the jackshaft because you will play hell when you go to install & time the ignition and it is off even a little bit! Also find an 81-82 CBX clutch basket, they use a spring damper as opposed to the 79-80 baskets with rubber dampers that always clatter. Sending good luck & vibes to you guys on this project! Looking forward to more episodes, thanks BJ!

I find most bikes after 79 don't have kick starts, I try to rebuild the kick start models and keep them on the road myself, but I'm always looking for modern upgrades to put on them. Maybe not always going with fuel injection and electronic ignition systems, but I do like a lot of the dyna upgrade components. I will look into clutch upgrades too thank you for the tip?

Just wanting to give you a shout out again and thank you for all your content! So glad to finally see this progress. Making me regret scrapping a 900 engine that I used for parts because it had a thrown rod, but it isn’t a very popular Honda engine. I always feel like everything has potential. Thanks to all your videos Ive been watching over the past 2 years I was able to get that 1975 750 I mentioned last time brought back to life! Super excited about getting it cleaned up and taking some inspiration from your older projects. I want to keep its character like you did with your barn find and keep it as original as possible. Can’t wait to see you guys fire this CBX up for the first time and get it back on the road, but Im sure it will be awhile because it’s colder than a witches t?&%$ out there right now 😂

Great stuff. Remember, where CBXs are concerned there are no half measures. Question: your timesert cam cap repairs…the insert level looks a bit low and also about the same diameter as the valve cover retaining bolts’ shoulders. You might end up using thin SS washers/trimming cam cap to compensate. Best of luck with your build, all the headaches will be more than worth it in the end.
@BrickHouseBuilds7 сағат бұрын
I was also not a fan of it being recessed but I'm sure they have a reason for it. I'll inspect how the bolt seats and make a call from there
@bikeymikey7485 сағат бұрын
Isn’t there a provision allowing the bevel to be cut just enough for the insert to sit flush in its application. No worries regarding stripped threads on CBX heads. Seems most times I check the valve clearances on mine (& check the torque on all the cam cap bolts…they sometimes snap in regular service!) and torquing things back on the low side of spec. with a proper in/lb wrench it’s not unusual for something to strip. Sadly, CBX castings are known for their porosity, you just never know when/if they are gonna ruin you 1/2hr. maintenance job. Looking forward to your progress, loving your process 👏 Mike C.
