What is happening with Honda management and Board? The pricing here is just insane if they ever want to sell any Civics. In the last two months they've sold around 1400 vehicles in total at a time that they have been getting good reviews. Why so few sales? I'd suggest that price, specs, warranty, and business model are rhe reasons and that's the Board and Senior Management responsibility. Are they still suffering Stephen Collins syndrome? It's a shame that such good cars are being shafted by self inflicted wounds.

If you have owned a civic, you would understand how you fall in love with this car. Also the initial cost of the car is less a consideration for people like me who keep their cars for a long time.

I too have a 2013 Honda Civic hatch (auto) purchased new for $25K (coming up to being 12 years old) & having owned a Honda Accord V6 for 11 years prior, I can confirm Honda cars are very reliable, comfortable & nice to drive. No mechanical problems & no rattles! However now with their agency model & higher pricing, it will be a hard ask to purchase another Honda (when I bought the Civic, the price difference [with trade-in] for a new Corolla was $10). I may just decide to keep my Honda Civic for a longer while with 66K on odometer, magic seats (just like the new HR-V!), low fuel costs, paddle shifters for extra power up hills, small & easy to park, space saver tyre, CD player, aux for iPod, Bluetooth, reversing camera, ample safety features etc > all I'll gain with a new Honda Civic Hybrid is updated technology (including some modern safety features) & a hybrid powertrain (with slighter better fuel economy)

Talking of the expense, I watched a few other reviews and one very savvy American (I know right, savvy and American in the same sentence) and he offered the statement that Honda's last a long time. At the time he was reviewing the new CRV and his mom still has the first gen CRV. And from this writers POV, that is quite true. I take delivery on my new CRV next week, and once that arrives, we'll be a total Honda family (CRV, 2 x Jazz's and a HRV) His proposition was, that the reliability of Honda's mean that people keep them longer, so Honda are are getting their money up front. Sound plausible?

You can get a base Golf for $39k + onroads. The Golf will use 1.5l/100km more, but otherwise not that much between them. In principle, I don't think hybrids make sense unless you are a taxi or other ultra-high mileage driver. The extra cost, weight, complexity, and longer term battery degradation will never make up for the small fuel savings. In real world driving, you could get 5.5l/100 in a Scala.

Fantastic car. My wife a i just purchased the exact same car and colour with most extra accessories 2025 built. I will tell you all why we ended up purchasing one. The Civic is large enough to be used comfortably with a family of 4 even though it's a 5 seater. Has great boot space. There was nothing i liked under $50K with the quality the Honda offers and its the hottest hatch going around. It offers the best Hybrid system and the drive is very impressive. The finishes are first class. Has a great Bose stereo system. Great resale. Great reliability. Honda makes the race spec Civic on the same platform - Type R spec. The same drive train is also used in their heigher Accord model. Toyota Corolla cabin feels claustrophobic. Rear seating is terrible and boot space is limited. The Camry would be on par with the Civic but unfortunately, the Camry doesn't drive like the Civic and it's hybrid power train is not up to the smoothness of the Civic. Plus,,,, its a Camry. Did you know that Honda produces 17 million motors a year making them the biggest manufacturer of engines in the world. Honda is not worried about the Australian market so much as their main market sales are in the US, 3rd largest car sales. People complaining about the price. Every new car prices have gone up by 30%. In my opinion Honda is producing a better overall experience when it comes to their hybrid systems when compared to Toyota which is similar quality vehicle (Toyota have the edge in slightly better mileage but lack in the overall drive experience which Honda delivers). From my personal experience of owning a ZR-V hybrid for nearly a year now I can find nothing to moan about (I suppose other than the lack of a spare wheel which many new vehicles have removed). Yes the price of the vehicles have gone up. That’s the result of introducing new technology & significant shipping increases worldwide. Other than the price I think Honda Australia is suffering from PR due to previous years change in your market (I’m NZ). If Honda can survive in your market for the next few years I think you will see a resurgence in their brand. My only other concern would be the merger with Nissan (& Mitsubishi?) & what this looks like going forward.

Considering the difference between the consumption that I have achieved with my Cerato compared to what Matt achieved in his test of the Civic, I would need to travel approximately 500,000 km to recoup the purchase price difference which, considering my driving history since I bought my first car, would take about 40 years. In NZ you can get top specs RAV4 hybrid limited which makes more sense than this civic.

Interior is nice. Noisy like a 2005 madza3? No spare tyre. 409 litres boot is probably too small for a family. Perfect if it was 10k cheaper. No wonder I have only seen one on the road. This is a perfect example of how to make a good car but fail in the execution.
@therightcar4 күн бұрын
Not as noisy as a Mazda.

Nearly 60k and people have problems with paying for a cheaper Chinese car. Are we having a COL crisis or not? You could almost get a top trim Camry for that. Wasn't a Civic meant to be affordable?

No think i still like the CX5 AWD turbo about the same price

This or the Camry Hybrid?

I'd go BYD, Zeekr or even Xepeng and other competitors. Honda is so last decade
@RodneyW4 күн бұрын
The Civic is such a good car, but has two critical shortcomings. Firstly the price... Secondly, as with many other cars, they've created additional boot space by not including a spare tyre. Without a spare, the car is pretty much unusable in rural areas.

this price can t compete with a Toyota, Even a Honda CR - V hybrid is around this price. the new Toyota Camry in similar price and a more bigger car. 60k hard to bare with. I am sure this civic is a good car to drive, handly could be better than the Toyota but not this price. may not be hybrid, but 60k there is so many alternative than Honda. 12mth and 10000km service feeling a bit short, even Toyota offer a 15k km service

Nice car but way overpriced.

What about the MODEL -T, yes a dinosaur. What about a BYD shark?

Hahaha. Yeah, a SHARK makes sense as an alternative to this.

If it's good quality then it should cost more. Variety is good.

It is good quality. Comparable to Audi, BMW

The reason it does not have any of that annoying safety kit is because it's tested in 2022. It seems most new cars are getting the over sensitive new equipment that even European Ncap is saying is too sensitive. But of course car makers want the perfect 5 star, so add that annoying stuff so that it gets the 5 stars because other safety is lacking! I believe this year Ncap will add assisted driving, as many fail this category badly! I mean, what a stupid system to have lane keeping only for it to just disengage should the driver become incapacitated, the car will continue at the set speed and crash! Some new systems with do everything to try and wake you up, should that fail the car will pull over to the shoulder of the road stop put the hazard lights on, sound the horn, unlock the doors and even automatically ring emergency services! And for those that are perfect drivers and will say you should not be driving while tired, not every one of these are people simply falling asleep, and medical events can happen to anyone at any stage in life.

This car, or its price at least, is all about older people who have owned and enjoyed Honda's over the years. I get you pay the Toyota tax when buying one of their cars, it the only Japanese manufacturer that still has that cache of top quality; Honda being a wannabe Toyota is as outrageous as it is hilarious.

Too expensive. You can get some really good EVs for that price
@MisterX-er9si2 күн бұрын
It is a way too expensive... Now I understand why honda and nissan cannot survive nowadays in comparison to chinese brands.
@Lokito20104 күн бұрын
So overpriced.. My first Honda Civic I paid 24k back in 1993..still quicker than this.. Honda has lost its way.. Remember Intergra Prelude NSX.. They don't make cars like that anymore.. These days it's all the same
@therightcar4 күн бұрын
Well, they’ve changed tact. No-one wants sports cars, good as they are. Look at Porsche!
@Lokito20104 күн бұрын
@therightcar I would hardly call a Honda Prelude or a Honda Integra a sports car.. Toyota has the GR86 Subaru has the BRZ Hyundai have the N series.. All I'm saying in my opinion is the cars Honda are bringing out are crap.. The brand subsequently posted its two weakest sales years on record in Australia...dropping from 29,040 vehicles sold in 2020 (the last full year before going non-negotiable) to 14,215 sales in 2022.. and 13,734 sales in 2023... Numbers don't lie.. Or you a paid shill for Honda 😂😂

For that money I'd rather have the Toyota Camry even if it is the worlds most boring (but reliable) car.
@russellchristison84254 күн бұрын
I’d take the civic because of its liftback styling, the Camry is a great car with a big boot but like most sedans a smallish boot opening

It's expensive, battery needs replacing every 10 years $$$$, infotainment screen looks small and cheap. I am Waiting for new Golf or Audi A3.

some hondas have the wet timing belt nowadays
@YZJB4 күн бұрын
No, Honda used a wet timing belt in one engine (the 1.0L turbo three cylinder, engine code P10A2) which was never sold in Australia. Every Honda currently for sale in Australia uses a timing chain.
@therightcar4 күн бұрын
Chain chain chain !

Apart from the obsessive high price, the engine will not last as long as traditional Honda engine. It’s direct injection only without the port injectors. This will inevitably cause carbon buildup long term. Walnut shell cleaning is the only way out. However it’s expensive and a tricky procedure which may potentially cause more damage to the engine. Other than that, it’s a very nice car. In the meantime, I will keep driving my 23 yr old Civic which drinks 7.5L/100km on 91 octane regular fuel, not bad at all😅
@69memnon694 күн бұрын
Cars a total ripoff, especially if you compare the pricing to a Mazda 3. You can get a model 3 for the same money and it’s a vastly better car.

Noones gonna pay 50k for a civic, hondas been dead for years
