Great video! I love my 2021 Clarity also. Just hit 40,000 miles, no issues. Next car will be pure electric. Will keep for family use, won’t give up this gem!!

I’m closing in on 100k miles. Will be there at the beginning of next month. Going to change the trans fluid again. This will be the first car I will probably own till it completely dies.

If you slow down to about 68, you can get 44 mpg to 46 mpg on the highway (not in cold temps), and this will give you a range of about 260 miles without using any of the battery. While you may be going slower, because you have to stop less on a long trip, the overall trip time is not that much different, you save gas, and the comfort is higher because it is quieter in the car. I had a bit of uneven tire ware on my first set (car was purchased new) but they still went 40k and I now rotate the tires every 5,000 miles. I put the hitch on mine myself. It was not hard to do. I love my Clarity. It is 6 years old. I only have about 46K on it, but it has been trouble free. Except for trips and the very rare occasion where I have to go more than 45 miles in a day, I run almost entirely in EV mode. I take a couple of long trips a year (2000 -3000 miles) so all of my other driving has been more or less in EV mode. Coupled with the 44 mpg on the highway, and relatively low cost for electricity (about $.10 average for where I live), the Clarity has been super-cheap to run.

I have almost 120k miles on my 2018 clarity. Not a single issue yet. Replaced tires every 50k and oil every 8 k. Changed the transmission fluid at 30 k and 100k. Best feature is the option to select electric and gas power. I always use electric only for stop and go traffic and gas for freeway cruising. Currently I get 40 electric miles per charge on average, driving in California.
@EverydayCars5 ай бұрын
Love to hear these stories. I’m hoping to get to over 300k on mine. I changed the trans fluid at 60k and the oil about every 10k since some of the miles are electric. I currently have 93k on mine and put about 25k a year on it. And I also change tires every 40 to 50k. I typically don’t keep cars to long but this one saves me a ton of money driving and is super reliable. Good luck with yours!!!!

@@EverydayCars when you change the oil at 10k what is your oil life at? I have a Honda HRV and when it hits about 10% I’m at 12k. I was wondering if the clarity went longer since the motor doesn’t run much.
@EverydayCars4 ай бұрын
@@xzimxzim There is no percentage on the Clarity unfortunately. It’s just time based like the accord. If it was running hybrid all the time I would change the oil about every 6k to 8k miles.

I owned a 2012 Chevy Volt, I loved the concept with. 1 issue, the sub freezing heat didn’t work well. How is the Clarity’s comfort? I am considering a 2018 with 8K on it.
@EverydayCars9 ай бұрын
It’s a lot more comfortable than the 1st gen volt. My brother owns a 2014 volt. The Clarity’s range in sub 20 degree weather seems to take more of a hit in range compared to the volt. The volt has coolant to heat the battery where the Clarity does not. But hands down the Clarity is a bigger more comfortable car to drive.

The clarity has a better comfort than the Honda Accord. It has 60,000km and i love it.

Thanks for the informative video. I also have a 2018 c!arity. Cupped tires are an indication of a suspension problem. If you live where they salt the roads, it miGht be so common that even mechanics say it's normal. The rear suspension in a clarity is pretty complex, and front and rear suspensions are aluminum. My car spent its first three years in NYC but it shows almost no signs of corrosion.
@EverydayCars Жыл бұрын
Mine looks pretty rust free also. But a lot of the car is also aluminum which helps a ton.

You would definitely make it all electric one way. If there is a way to charge at work I would say go for it. If not a regular hybrid would work better.

I just bought a 2018 with 62k on it and so far it's great but I probably should have done some more research. My question is: With a fully charged battery, it only says my EV range is around 34 miles. Does this mean the battery is going?
@EverydayCars5 ай бұрын
Not necessarily, if the previous owner drove at high speeds on EV it will get in the 30’s for range. If you keep it under 45mph you will get better range. I would drive it a couple of weeks and see if the range goes up. I only get about 47 miles range in good weather. I used to get 58 or so. But I do have all weather tires on the car now also.
@pstowitts3 ай бұрын
I have had my Clarity for three months now and I wondered the same thing. The EV range is an estimate based on your current driving. I found that when I took longer trips vs. lots of short trips, the EV range went up, in some cases, considerably. Today, after driving 90 plus miles the day before, it charged up to over 50 miles of EV range. Also, I have cases where I didn't have enough EV range showing to get to my destination but when I arrived I still had 5-10 miles of EV range. It depends quite a bit on how you drive it.

I have seen 68 as the highest. That was with worn out OEM tires. I drive mostly under 55mph. The real world rang on the freeway is like 36 miles. And even when it shows 56 miles it’s probably closer to 52 real range. This was also in 70 degree weather. Right now it’s under 40 degrees out and my range has been showing 36 miles now.

@EverydayCars Жыл бұрын
With 9k miles there shouldn’t be any issues…. Wonder why the miles are so low though? How many previous owners? And charging 99% of the time on a level 1 charger extends the life of the battery. The battery doesn’t get as hot charging on level 1.
