Honda CR-V review (2011 to 2016) | What Car?

The Honda CR-V is designed primarily for on- rather than off-road use, so it’s as comfortable and easy to drive as a family hatchback. There’s lots of interior space and the boot is huge.
However, the Honda CR-V costs more to buy and run than some rivals, and entry-level models are poorly equipped. Its handling is quite stodgy and refinement is nothing special.
Overall, the Honda CR-V gives you masses of space, great versatility and relaxed driving manners. However, there are plenty of other SUVs that offer more equipment and superior refinement for less money.

I have the 08 Civic. For an increase in space as a family car, is this a good choice? Is the comfort / suspension softer? (The civic informs you of all the bumps on the 08 reg lol) Honda's tend to be quite reliable overall though.

I've had my mk4 2.0L petrol auto 7 years now and can't fault it. 40mpg on run . 25 on city driving. Shed loads of space in the boot and can get 3 large lads in the back when being a taxi on Friday night.

Re: mpg figures. I have a new model 1.6 diesel 160bhp auto SE and have averaged over 42 mpg in mixed driving. I do drive reasonably gently and can regularly get over 50mpg. Obviously if driving in city traffic as previous post then mpg will drop dramatically. By coincidence my mpg is almost identical to previous car BMW X3 2.0 auto diesel.

@@neilleng9188 I am actually quite average. The ‘cushion you sit on’ does not extend enough and you feel like you sit on it rather than in it. Very different from the BMW I had and the Volvo I drive. I was on a forum and this seemed a common complaint; some people even got rid of the car because of this. Still, it’s great you find them comfy! And don’t get me started about the 1.6 engine…

I got the 1.6 deisel and get 40 in towns up to 55 mixed driving longer trips. The 1.6 deisel is also ULEZ compliant, so no emission charges

It's spelt wallowy, and is a word, here in the UK. It also does describe the handling (I drive a 2014 2.2 i-DTEC) accurately, although it's not too bad. I have gotten used to it. The 2.2 diesel has loads of torque, and makes for effortless overtaking, and relaxed driving. Strange he doesn't mention the 2.2 diesel, as it was available with that engine in the time frame of the video, and is the best engine (imo) for the CRV. Mine has been faultless, and I love it! 🙂

I strongly object to the mpg figures. Where do you get these from? The manufacturer? Or doing real life testing? I have a "65" plate CR-V EX top spec and after 2,000m have only achieved 24.5mpg!! Worse than my previous car which was a 3.6l V6 Porsche Cayenne !! You need to do real life tests by driving in cities like many of us do and not just claim manufacturers mpg! I feel completely cheated by Honda as were also given these Rubbish figures and was a factor in deciding to buy this car
