Given that this bike has the "very specific use case", it's a mystery why the "rally" variant (which is by far the more useful for people who need to ride on the road, having a 12.5 litre fuel tank) is labelled as a variant and not as the standard.

I think that’s because the L is the original version that the Rally was based on.

I had the 2021 Kawasaki KLX300 which is direct competition with the Honda CFL300L. Most sources will say that the KLX has a better suspension but the CRF has a better engine/transmission combo. I bought the bike to use as a lightweight ADV bike. The bike was great but had one flaw, the aftermarket and Kawasaki wouldn’t make a larger capacity fuel tank. So I moved it on and now I have a Husqvarna FE 501s that I bought on a deal after it had been traded in for a Pan America. The 501 only had 66 miles on it and the temporary plate from the dealership when ai bought it. I’ve ordered parts to transition it into my new lightweight ADV bike, including a higher capacity tank and a Cush drive rear wheel. It’s a process to turn a true off-road bike into a road worthy bike but if you ride off road solo like I do these bikes are easy to pick up on a drop and handle being dropped relatively well. One thing people need to know going into the small displacement bikes is that they are a bit underpowered for urban freeway speeds in traffic. 70-85 mph. The real issue is the lightweight and compact size of the bikes at speed with wind and also air disruption from cars, trucks, etc. Where do these bikes excel? If you live close to off road trails, farms & ranches, small country towns with back roads, urban streets, as they soak up potholes and are easy to park, anytime they can be hauled like Richard mentioned. I recently added a folding stand-up trailer that is capable of hauling a full dresser or a smaller dual sport. So handy to have and stands up in my garage or storage unit.

The 2025 version has better suspension and LED lights. Very easy bike to work on and very reliable.

Couldn't disagree more. I bought mine to commute daily in all weathers and go for a blast on weekends on and off road in comfort and its perfect. Its light, easy to ride, reliable and eager and not too tall

Morning Richard ye nice little bike with suspension changes as I come from mx background I personally don’t see any point of it really for 26bhp and a mile high what is the point of it if only to be ridden on the road I say 450 be a better bike though probably twice the money and servicing will cost a bit as well but do it yourself after warranty runs out would save a bit I’ve thought of a Ktm 500 exc-f now that is a bldy weapon on or off road a real handful if your a capable off roader just hang on tight about 60 bhp I think but it’s the way it delivers the power that makes them great fun but the crf 450 I’d choose or Ktm exc-f 450 spend another grand for off road on these two and it would be a great bike on or off road take care mate

It's a love or hate bike Nicholas - and you don't find that out until you own one I guess. It is underpowered. But, it is predictable. And based on the engine, will go forever. Would I buy one, no. It is too specialised for me 😆

great little bikes if you accept them for what they are, you just need to harden up a bit if you wish to run them long distance - many do it without fuss but then many of us like myself also run ktm500 long distance too, you wanna talk about hard seats let's talk about my 500 hahaha🙂....
