We get rid of some unnecessary components as we use the SD Powerhouse kit to delete the thermostat on our Honda CRF450L and RL

The biggest benefit was getting rid of the smog equipment (which can be done without deleting the thermostat). Deleting the thermostat is fine as long as you aren’t riding in really cold conditions (like below freezing)

Should cut the excess aluminum off the brake bracket to clean that up. Also makes it easier to clean in there without that tab sticking up. Looks way cleaner.👍

Can you please tell me where you got the frame protectors? Thanks!

I think they came from Revzilla. They are for a CRF450R, so I had to trim them to make them fit my RL.

any problems with this in the cold weather?

Probably shouldn’t delete the thermostat if you do a lot of cold (below freezing) riding

What kind of weight savings did the mod provide?

Maybe a pound lol. It’s more about clearing room to work around the engine than anything. And it looks a lot cleaner.

Is their any benefit to removing the thermostat?

That's what I want to know as well. ThumperTalk forums seems torn on the issue. People have been talking about something called piston wall wash, where the fuel leaks into the port due to the bike never reaching optimal operating temperature. I feel like I want to do this, but not at my bikes detriment.

Better late than never! I don't think there's a benefit even with cooling performance. Sure the flow MIGHT increase a tiny bit, but it will also be continuous and uncontrolled. What I like about the thermostat is it just takes care of everything. Never am I worried about starting the bike on a cold day and hitting an open road. It will always be adjusting the coolant flow so the engine stays at its favorite temperature. I believe the regulated flow also allows the coolant to spend more time in the radiator to cool. Most guys buy these thermo delete kits to get rid of the "emissions" stuff. The canister, air injector, and oil catch can. While technically the thermostat might have been a mandate from the CARB, I don't consider it to be a useless item at all. My version of the smog delete consisted of removing the charcoal canister and the air injector system. Why? The vortex no longer utilizes those two pieces. If you're running the bike bone stock, leave all that stuff alone. In the end, you're engine should be fine regardless of what you do as long as you use common sense.

Great video. Very detailed thanks. I plan on doing this soon. I have the kit just waiting to get new exhaust and ECU. 👍
