Honda CT 90/110 Inner Tube Valve Stem Nuts - What Where When & Why

Sooner or later you'll need to fit a new inner tube to your CT 90/110 & you'll encounter a topic that's rarely agreed upon. Where to fit the nuts on your CT 90/110 inner tube valve stem. If you've had flat tyres caused by the valve stem being ripped out of the inner tube, this video may explain why.
CT 90/110's don't have rim locks, therefore I didn't include them in this video & the wheel shown has a piece broken out of the brake drum & is unusable.

I agree with your reasoning. I have wondered about this and researched it on the internet getting confused by all the opinions, and I ended up with the nuts above and below the rim, tightened down. But I am pretty sure I have had the tube tear at the valve base, now I come to think of it.

Good advice, it's easy to get confused with these. Keeping the bottom nut in place give you a better chance of avoiding tube damage. Some more powerful off roaders have tyre locks to stop slip under power. The little CT's have less chance of this, but it's still possible if the pressure is low enough. So, I agree, if deflating the tyre for grip, loosen the top nut!

Yeah, lots of confusing advice online about this John. No rim locks on the CT as you said, trials use very low pressures with rim locks, I wonder what they do with the valve on tubed tyres.

In principle I think you are correct but I doubt the mighty CT90/110 has enough power to pull tyre around rim. It is more of an issue for the uninitiated who still believe they need a bigger bike. I enjoy your videos. No pressure to post. Look after yourself first .

My bike ripped the valve out as I was slowing down for a stop sign close to home. Unsure why, maybe low tyre pressure was the main reason.

Interesting take. I've always had bikes without inner tubes, so if I had to change one, I'd be clueless. On a side note, why did Rosco suddenly get me thinking of food... hmmmm 🙂 Stay upright mate!
