Okay, I usually love your videos, but the rat extraction was gratuitous and I forwarded past it. Gross. Time to take off top end, and best case is just changing the rings. More likely, you'll wind up having to bore the cylinder the cylinder for a larger cylinder and new rings. Hopefully the valves and seals are in good shape. Also, I replaced my battery with a LiFPO on my CT90 and I'm very happy with it. The connections required minor modifications, and I needed to add some spacers/filler in the battery compartment, but its about half the weight, no fluids and never needs maintenance. Good luck.

My wife and I each have 1984 CT110s. I very recently cleaned the carburetor on hers and then, almost immediately, I began to have what I thought was a petcock problem. Now, after watching your video, I see that I inadvertently reversed the gas lines. I had no idea that the ribbed gas line was the reserve line which should be on top. In fact, I didn't even notice one was ribbed! (I'm 70 years old and not quite as sharp as I used to be.) As I continued watching you work on Barney, you pointed out how the insulater goes on only one way correctly. Well, I had it installed properly on her bike, but now I can see that on my bike, I have it upside down. My bike seemed to run fine, although it was always harder to start than hers. Now I know why! Your video solved one problem I knew I had, but hadn't quite figured it out yet. Your video also solved another problem that I didn't realize I had. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Looking forward to your next Barney video. Your superfan in Tennessee.

@Free_Ranger_CT110
@Free_Ranger_CT110 16 күн бұрын
Hi Dan, I'm not the guru mate, just an old bloke trying to keep his old Postie running but appreciate the sentiment. If the bikes are all more or less the same I'd say you're OK. Honda state 156 to 199 psi as std & 140psi as the minimum, but when I did a comp test I found my tester was reading low when I used the rubber hose screwed into the plug hole adaptor. Using the steel pipe with rubber end pressed against the plughole it gave a much higher result. Opposite to what I expected. I think it's something to do with the shrader valve in the hose not sealing properly. I reckon if you retest using the steel pipe adaptor, you'll get 150 psi reading. If the bikes sound OK, don't smoke or use too much oil I think you're good to go. Did you see the 3 veterans doing a round Oz trip raising awareness on CT110s? The last post I think it's called.

Hi Tony it's difficult without seeing the bike, but does your bike have hi/lo trans? Check it's fully in high (or low). Check chain & wheel alignment, there'll be a clicking from front sprocket it there's a problem. Check engine oil for metal. Remove clutch cover & check for broken tooth on primary drive gear & clutch centre gear. Good luck let me know how you get on. G/box problems are common on well used bikes but at 10k it should be OK.

A bigger dia thread would mean the c/sunk bolt wouldn't fit & the cover would need drilling out etc, probably not the way to go. Helicoil would be better but I'm not sure how thick the material is. Fun find, looks like it's in nice restorable shape! I got lucky a few years back here in Canada and found an 83 110 (CDI version) in a local basement, encrusted in 30+ years of dust and grime, but when I washed it it emerged as an almost factory-fresh bike, no rust, clean original red paint, and all parts intact. After I cleaned the jelly out of the engine and put in fresh oil etc it started on the 2nd kick, still have it in the country and rode it 2 days ago! Your signal lights are not like mine, yours look possibly aftermarket (edit: apparently not) unless they have different versions down under, and your seat is not original either (looks more comfortable!). The only problem I'm having with mine is the bloody 6v battery lasts a season at best then starts blowing all the lightbulbs when it loses its "voltage regulator" functionality, I currently only have a functioning N lamp. Bulbs are expensive and hard to find here, have to go to USA, I'd love to find an alternative to those crappy factory Yuasa-type batteries. Cheers and looking forward to the next video :)

Good luck with the new bike! I look forward to the next episodes. My CT110 is a 1984. They only sold these from 1980-86 in the states. Beginning in 1981 they all have the High/Low gear box. Beginning in 1982 (I believe) they went over to CDI/electronic ignition in the states, and they changed the carb to have the larger bowl at that time. So my 1984 has both CDI and the H/L gearbox (and it now has an original carb with the large bowl.) It also has the same Speedo/Odo set up as yours. (Whereas the Postie bikes moved the speedo up higher so you could have a front rack and not block the speedo, and the CT90 also has a trip meter.) Finally, all of the CT110s in the US were sold street legal, and I ride mine around town regularly. I find I use the H/L gear box on my CT90, but the 110 has enough power/torque that I don't really use it. But, it is nice to have (especially off-road when riding with a partner on the CT90 if it is in low gear.) The CT110 in low gear can climb anything. Anything. Again, good luck and I look forward to seeing the adventure of getting it back on the road.

Thanks Jon, they continued to be sold for many years & as you said switched to CDI but kept the 6 volt system. The ex Postal bikes didn't have hi/lo & were gradually modified to suit Oz Post's requirements. Not many hi/lo bikes on the road here. Appreciate the info on indicators, they look original but I thought by this year they'd switched to square ones.

Jon I've since realised it's a 1981 bike, it's on the compliance plate plain as day. Don't know why I thought it was '82, changed the error where possible.

Hi Jody, they are much more common in the States compared to Australia. Here the bikes such as this that can be road registered are sought after. And Priscilla my Muscovy duck has had 13 ducklings so it's been a good week!

Tech question: Is the CT110 ADR as sought after as the original CT90 HiLo and were there any problems to look out for?
@Free_Ranger_CT110
@Free_Ranger_CT110 Ай бұрын
I live in Australia & the CT interest seems to revolve around the ex Oz Post bikes, most of the CTs with hi/lo g/box were sold to farmers & not able to be road registered, in the US it seems a different market & CT90's are more sought after & good condition bikes available. So the short answer to your question is I honestly don't know, it depends upon where you live. Hi/lo CTs aren't common here in Aus.

@@Free_Ranger_CT110 Thanks for that, CT110 models with Hi Lo are certainly thin on the ground with compliance.

@@mikeosborn2047 for me, the ease of changing the front sprocket & much lower cost of the front sprocket on a bike without hi/lo outweighs the occasional use of a low gear. I've seen that many people swap out the frame for a complianced one, that's a lot of work. I do have a ct110 complianced with hi/lo but it's being rebuilt. (well it's in the queue) all the best, Darren.

You fitted the circling the wrong way round, the rounded edges should be fitted towards the heat with the square edges towards the outside ,so the circuit is more secure, less likely to come of ,other wise a good video

Thanks for your input. Not sure what you mean by 'circlng.' If you mean the splined washer, yes the manual says fit with sharp edge out, in my description I mention this & also that the washer on this engine didn't seem to have a distinct sharp edge. If you mean the circlip, I fitted it as I was taught as an apprentice diesel mech 40 yrs ago.

Struggling to get the circlip back on after replacing the gearbox seal. Is there two different seals? Could you help at all?
@Free_Ranger_CT110
@Free_Ranger_CT110 Ай бұрын
Hi, the larger seal is 31x43x8 mm, g/box is 27x37x7 depending upon the model there are changes over the years with top hat spacers check with parts book for your bike. Are you pushing the clip inyo place with a screwdriver, if you try to use circlip pliers for the last few mm the ends of the pliers may stop the circlip clicking into place
