Excellent presentation, perfectly easy to follow! Two questions please - I am following your great videos to remove, replace the clutch disks, and reinstall the clutch assembly: does the clutch adjustment need to be changed or backed off because of the new clutch disks? And did the bike need to be in neutral to carry out this operation (hope not)? Thanks for a great video, really makes it clear!

Thanks for your comment, much appreciated. Yes will need adjusting when completed, link to a video how to adjust in a pinned comment. Should go together even if in gear but you can put in neutral by pressing the shifter & turning the primary drive gear by hand if you're concerned. Let me know how it goes, I make the videos hopefully to help people do these jobs & it's great to get feedback from someone who used the vids & fixed their CT themselves. Cheers!

This video should help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6rFiqOcarKags0 I don't know where you live, but in Australia, Lambda motorcycles are the main CT 110 parts supplier. Net search will show others. In USA, I think Dr ATV is the go to. Most of the time all you'll need are the 3 friction plates, a new tab washer & the two countersunk screws holding the bearing housing, often they are hard to remove & get damaged in the process. All the best.

@Free_Ranger_CT110 Okay, what I'm experiencing is my ct110 has a 7 pin CDI. I don't know if I have an electrical problem or what, but after about 5 miles of riding, the engine gets warmed up good, it starts skipping and sputtering and coughing. Don't know what's going on. My main jet is 72, and the slow jet is 38. The air screw is 1 & 1/2 turns out. It runs rich, though. The air breather is clean & dry. The carburetor is very clean with no trash. The compression is 150. It has 2800 miles on it, and the valves are adjusted with no lash. Should I check the compression when it's hot? Could it have something going on with the rings? Maybe broken. The intake has proper gaskets. We'll tighten no air leeks. I was wondering if the head could be cracked?

@@troycotsenmoyer6736 Look for simple things first. First thing I'd do is fit a new plug. Had a problem with my bike recently, swapped the plug for another used one, it wasn't cured until I put in a brand new ngk plug. Then new plug cap, cut off a piece of the ign lead to ensure good contact with the cap. Next ensure gas tank cap breather hole is clear. Ride with the cap cracked open & see if that cures it.

My brother has a 1969 CT90, and the motorcycle runs rich with the air mixture screw adjusted all the way it still runs rich, and I was wondering if the pilot jet is the culprit And if it needs to be a smaller size pilot jet.
@Free_Ranger_CT110
@Free_Ranger_CT110 11 күн бұрын
If the screw is in the same position (on the air filter side of the center of the carb) as the one in this video, screwing the air/fuel screw in reduces air & richens the pilot mixture. But this is for idle. Pilot jet controls idle to 1/4 throttle. Jet needle controls 1/4 to 3/4. Main jet controls 3/4 to wide open. These are rough figures, so if your plug is rich it's most likely to be the needle & jet, or the main jet. Check the air filter is clean. All the best Troy.

I may be doing something like this with a Honda clone I’m saving for. It’s like a clone of the old Super 90. I’m hoping to swap a more powerful 190 or 212cc pit bike engine in and considering that it would be able to go like 80 after swapping to a ~20hp engine, it’s probably a good idea to upgrade the suspension

Could be lots of things, need to dismantle & check everything. Could be not fully engaging caused by worn/bent selector or wear/play/damage in the operating lever fork. If fully engaging but jumping out could be damaged/missing spring behind the detent balls on the main selector rod. Could be worn/damaged dogs or gears. When checking the cause should be obvious except for the detent mechanism which is easy to miss. Check the manual operating lever fork in the case bottom held on by small circlip, could be worn/damaged etc. Hope this helps.

Hi - this is a bit off topic so please feel free to ignore, but I'm wondering if you can help with advice. I acquired a 1984 CT110 a few days ago. It is in very good shape. When I ride it at 35MPh or below (55kph) it functions perfectly. However, if I take it to a speed like 45MPH (70kph) around full throttle , it can only hold that speed for about 15 seconds, and then it starts lunging like it is out of gas, and will eventually stall if I don't back (way) off the throttle. My initial though was it was not getting enough gas and the bowl was running dry. I thought it might be vapor lock, so I basically rode it without the gas cap on and the same thing happened. I then verified that both the main fuel and reserve line basically free-flow gas when removed from the petcock. I checked the filter in the petcock and it was not clogged (the carb is new and looks like an original OEM carb.) I even took off the petcock valve and verified it was not clogged. Also, the air filter was completely decayed and caked on the main air cartridge - I'm shocked the bike ran. Anyway, I removed (scrapped off) the air filter and just ran with the cartridge so the bike was getting plenty of air - but I still had the same problem - bike can only run about 15 seconds at full throttle before it bucks like it is out of gas. I don't think it is ignition because I can run it say in 2nd gear at very high revs for an extended period of time (as long as I'm not near full throttle). It has CDI (electronic ignition). So I'm baffled. It just seems like the bike needs more fuel than the carb can provide. My only remaining guesses are 1) the main jet is either too small or partially clogged (but why would the bike run perfectly at full throttle for 15 seconds if this is the case?) , or 2) the float is set to low and the bowl isn't filing to the correct level (but the carb is new and it seems unlikely the float was set wrong from the factory. And even so, this seem like it would just let me ride at full throttle a few extra seconds and would not let me ride "constantly" at full throttle.) Any ideas before I take apart the carb? This can't be normal and the bike runs so well below 35mph it must be something that can be fixed. Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have on what to check. Best.

@@Free_Ranger_CT110 (Sorry if this is a repeat) - Thanks very much, sure enough, I have a Chinese clone with the smaller bowl. I did a bit of research, and at least in the US, the 1980/81 CT110's had a carb with the smaller bowl (that the clones were modeled after). From 1982 forward to 1986 (the last year of the CT100 in the US) Honda increased the bowl size per your videos. There was one with a larger bowl that I found on ebay (used) and I bought it (it 7X the price of a new clone), and I plan to do a "bowl transplant" once it arrives. Thanks so much - the small bowl explains why it can't keep up with full throttle and Honda fixed this with the larger bowl. Wish me luck! Thanks again.

@@Free_Ranger_CT110 Update - well my "original" carb arrived and it did have the larger bowl (but the jets and tubes had been replaced by Chinese parts I assumed). Rather than replace the entire carb in my CT110, I just did a "bowl" transplant moving the larger Honda bowl to the Chinese carb. The result: I'd say it 90% fixed the problem. I still can't keep the throttle open (fully open) for more than say 45 seconds, but this is vast improvement from before. And if I back off just a bit, it seems like the new set up works. Under normal driving, where I only use full throttle in limited circumstances, it seems to work very well. So, it isn't 100% the way I want it, but for practical purposes I can work around the problem by just backing off a bit. Thanks very much for the tip. The bike was unsafe before, and now I feel comfortable riding around the area (although I will likely only ride 40MPH in the 45 zones to avoid problems.) Thanks again!

I recently purchased a '79 CT90 with 1400 original miles and a '84 CT110 with 1100 original miles. My question is: Even though the CT110 has low miles, it is very hard to shift, especially from first to second. Is this a problem because the bike sat for so many years, and even though it looks brand new, the clutch plates have "bonded" (or rusted) somewhat together from non-use? I would think a bike with such low miles would have zero issues, except maybe for stale gas clogging the carb or tires decomposing from uv rays.
@Free_Ranger_CT110
@Free_Ranger_CT110 2 ай бұрын
Try adjusting the clutch, that may help but as you said, I also think it's probably due to lack of use. Have you tried putting the bike on the ctr stand, engine off, rotate the rear wheel by hand & try the gear shift. If it's OK the problem is clutch drag (not disengaging correctly) Envious of the two nice bikes you picked up, low mileage bikes are very rare here in Oz..

@j.arthurlearned7696 2 ай бұрын
@@Free_Ranger_CT110 Thanks for your reply. I followed your instructional video on how to adjust the clutch and that didn't help. What exactly happens when there is "lack of use"? Does that cause "clutch drag"? Heading to garage now to rotate rear wheel, per you advice. Strange, but I've come across a lot of "low mileage" bikes, here on the west coast of America. Seems as though many people bought them back in the day and they ended up sitting in the garage, or sadly outdoors (after only a thousand miles of riding) for 40 years, or more. (Note: went to garage and turned the rear wheels on both the 110 and 90 and then shifted each. Both felt the same...shifted relatively easily. What does that mean?)
@Free_Ranger_CT110
@Free_Ranger_CT110 2 ай бұрын
@@j.arthurlearned7696 it's simply the clutch plates are stuck together, fresh oil & use the bike. Checking the shifting rotating the wheel means there's nothing wrong with the gearbox or selector mech, it's a sticking clutch. At such low mileage it's unlikely to be wear on the clutch opersting mech. It should cure itself, if not dismantle the clutch & deglaze the plates.
