I bought 2 new Monkey's when they first came out, a yellow and a red. I wished I had kept the yellow. They are not set up for a big man and the breaks are not fit for high speed. The 125 fits a taller guy and with handlebar risers allows for riding standing up on the pegs. The trail is a low cost trail bike and the Money just isn't a trail bike. I do plan on buying a CT125 however I sold the 2 Monkey's I bought and really don't miss them. The CT will offer customizing with racks and it has great rugged luggage capability

Getting monkeys rear wheel up is super easy! Just lift the right side a bit and put a block of wood vertically under the frame on right side, you have the side stand keeping it up on the left! I swipe and oil my chains after every ride. I have removed the air boxes side covers, so it looks a lot smaller and not so bulky. Also added couple of nice stickers there too. Left front and right. Airbox looks just fine now.

I have friends that swear by the CT125. I had a grom with knobby tires and enjoyed riding with them with that. I had to upsize for a bit cause I could only have 1 bike for a bit cause of life, but now I can have two and plan to get a monkey and knobby it up and do the same. The big difference with the grom and what I suspect with the monkey is little tires you get bounced around by rocks so have to be picky with your line. I could ride circles around them in mud with my wide knobby tires with the grom though.

@WARweezy Great choice. I'd go with the Monkey as well after having owned both. I am primarily on the hardtop. Grom is awesome as well. Now they have the Dax coming out. So many neat 125's. Would be amazing to own one of each. Good luck on your next purchase 👍

I agree 🐒💛🍌. And most comfortable. It's funny how no matter one's build the bike is still able to accommodate. One could just upgrade the shocks if need be for heavier weights at a not so costly price. I wish I had the 2022's upgrades; but I'm not going to bother upgrading unless I get some catastrophic engine problem in the future. Honda seems to have blacked out quite a bit on the newer versions paints. I'm not real hip on that aspect, but its still 🔥 looking. Have you seen a cross comparison yet re: old vs new? Curious to see how much difference the performance enhancements really make.

Both bikes in showroom condition, especially the monkey with its 5000 miles. Look brand new. Your care and attention to both bikes is spectacular. Yesterday, I brought my after market seat to a place called Narong Motorcycle Seat (Upholsterer) here in Chiang Mai. He will reupholster with new material but most importantly will add 1 inch of foam padding before reattaching the material. On top of the 1 inch foam he is going to add a additional thin layer of some other type of foam. Then will trim black vinyl in thin red and double stich the material so the appearance will be similar to the monkey seat. I will take pictures of the end result and the foam used and add them into our next video. This should help tremendously with overall comfort. Stay safe and enjoy your toys.

Great review/comparison. Love the outfit. Looks like you're wearing something straight outta the very first Mad Max movie which was my favorite. Leaning towards the CT 125. Gonna do some traveling/off grid camping and it sure seems like a must have as a addition to the gear I'll be bringing. Curious, as a first time bike owner, which of the 2 would you recommend? Would either of the 2 be easier/first timer user friendly to work on or be less maintenance?Thanks for the segment.
@findingneutral2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Machu Pichu 🙂! Hey, that's the look I was going for. I think that dude on iconic Mad Max poster just looks pure 100% bad ass. Although thats the Goose's helmet so not to sure if its Max or Goose. For mostly off roading I'd prefer the Trail125. But if your only going to do off roading some of the time and plan on getting some bike training in on road the rest of the time I'd go for the Monkey. Reason being the Monkey will let you train on a regular bike transmission, which is important. I say this from knowing someone whose first bike had a centrifugal transmission, they sold it because in the end they wanted a regular bike transmission. The new 2022 Monkeys have a dedicated simple oil filter. Thats huge in my opinion and a big time saver maintenance wise. Trail125 still has the oil spinner which requires taking the side cover and kick start bits apart. Dooable, but I'd rather spend more time riding. Plenty of folks take Monkeys offroad and they fair well. I'd just not want to do it long term. The Monkey is listed as a street bike by Honda not to mention. Definitely watch others videos on this topic to get the big picture. Buying a bike is very costly so you want to get something that's a good fit for what riding you will be doing mostly. Hope this information helps.

I like the lower seat height and the wider tires on the Monkey, also can have a tank bag on the Monkey. I am 79 and the dealer has a Monkey and can not get the trail. And I like the Monkey because of the clutch and transmission. May buy one today 6/13/2023 hope to do so for the off road ability's. A real toss up but at my age will get the Monkey. And with that exhaust without the spark arrestor it will be illegal on BLM. And, the Monkey has a real clutch. And, for me tubeless tires are great, no tubes, just a plug kit.

You bring up excellent points. One other huge factor regarding the Monkey... hands down it's WAY more comfortable. Next to no bike to rider vibrations felt in the hands, pegs, or seat. The new Monkey has a new engine also (2022), longer stroke and smaller bore, same as the engine on the Grom. I'm not sure how I feel about that change. A long stroke engine is better for low end torque, but a smaller bore is better for high rpm engines. I'm not sure how this is going affect highway speeds. I hope it's a slightly faster than the old model and a little more off-road grunt. That would be ideal, but everything in life is a compromise, so the new engine probably only excels a little more than the old engine in just one thing. I hope it's road speed.

The Trail125 goes 53mph max on a flat road and no head wind. The Monkey will go around 58-60mph with the similar terrain. Both of mine have oring chains though, which I've been told slows them down and creates engine drag. Also neither have any engine modifications besides the aftermarket exhaust.

You got $18k in bikes and accessories right there lmao. I want a monkey so bad. I wish Honda would make a gorilla. Hahahah but that would basically be a Yamaha tw200 which I had when I was 13. Absolutely a beast (for a 13 year old) and reliable. Now at 36….I want a monkey and a Yamaha Super Ten hahaha
@findingneutral2 жыл бұрын
Thanks American Dude 🙂! I only had a crappy bicycle at 13. You had it going on with a TW200 then. Honda has also released the Dax since this video. They are on a roll. The Tenere seems awesome. To tall for my shortness though. You got good bike taste 👍

Where did you get your add ons for the ct125?
@findingneutral2 жыл бұрын
I bought the majority of them from Beez Deels on Ebay and Webike. Essentially everything had to be imported from Thailand or Japan. I've never had an issue with shipping though. Super fast and tracking. Here's another video with a bunch of links on the majority of my stuff. My exhaust, 2 point handhuards, and a few other things have their own video. If you see something and no link feel free to ask. Hope this helps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIi1YmaBaKd4aKc

@@findingneutral There is no dilemma for me, I can only get a Monkey in Europe, so i ordered a blue one.
@findingneutral3 жыл бұрын
@@90330 Cool. The new 2022? I did not want to come across as one bike being better than the other because they both have great qualities. But currently if I could own only one it would be the Monkey as I just hardtop for now. By the time I pay the Trail125 off I will finally be able to trailer it to off road locations to ride it. I'm definitely not saying the Monkey cannot off-road. Lots of people prove it can do it. I think it might take a bit more of a beating by design vs the Trail125 off-road.
@findingneutral3 жыл бұрын
@@90330 I really really hope Honda does the right thing and includes Europe in the Trail125 release. A friend of mine thinks they might be working on getting it to be EU compliant re: dual channel ABS, emissions, etc. Hope it happens 🙏
@903303 жыл бұрын
@@findingneutral Yes, I think 5 sped might have stronger 1st gear, so it can go to some steep hill. Big advantage of trail 125 for me is cargo capacity, useful in everyday life and for touring long trips.

I have six CT 90’s. It will be interesting to take a ride on one of the CT 125’s for comparison.
@findingneutral2 жыл бұрын
I envy you. You obviously know how to work on them having 6. I had recently bought a 1970 ct90 that I spent $1,500 on. Then another 2k on trying to refurb. I got it looking beautiful and it was my first (and last) project bike. Only problem was it needed a new top end, which I was unaware of when I bought. No one around my parts of the world would touch it. It would just drink oil and foul plugs. But that thing still started first kick and ran like a champ. I was mesmerized by the build quality of this Honda. It just felt so solid even being almost 50 years old. I recall being defeated and said to myself if I had bought this brand new I'd have cherished it and kept it immaculate. Imagine my surprise then coming across Honda's announcement they were re-releasing this model 😍. They actually feel very similar, but the seat on the ct90 was more comfortable in my opinion. Better foam no doubt. If you don't mind let me know your thoughts after comparing the two. I think it would be interesting to hear. Thanks
@Mr.T7112 жыл бұрын
@@findingneutral Surprised no one wanted to touch it. I keep several parts bikes to pull spares from and most parts are still available through Honda. Certainly fun when up and running even if it takes some time and a few dollars. Someone gave me a free ‘82 Passport yesterday so I have two of those also now. Build quality on these bikes are impressive for a more entry level bike. I can understand why these have remained popular and enjoyable. Interesting the comments on the seat. Hopefully Honda will see some consumer input and spec some different foam. Anyway, enjoy your bike! They are super fun.

For sure. Quasimotard does a great comparison between the Super Cub and the Trail125 on his channel. He told me the Super Cub is geared fir the hardtop and is faster due that its gearing and sprocket sizes. The Trail125 on the other hand is slower and geared more for off road low end torque.

Honda definitely has no issues cashing in on the nostalgia vibe of their mini-moto line up. Might see some pre-2022 models take a price cut hopefully.
@johncuervo30192 жыл бұрын
@@findingneutral yea fawk that. You can get a real bike from Honda for less than half that. The 750. The monkey for that price should be 300cc. It would cost them not a dollar more

You are absolutely 💯 right. I swear they target this model and blow up the price absurdly. But goobers like me just cannot resist a bit if bling.
