@@QuentinsMotoVlog So why did you trade the ctx1300 off for the cb500x
@QuentinsMotoVlog

Laurie Cox couple of reasons. Number one was I wanted, and still want, a motorcycle that will go down a dirt road. And maybe a trail if it’s not too technical. The suspension on the CTX1300 is not going to let that happen. And of course that’s not what the CTX is for. I miss the V4 on the CTX but I’m really happy with my CB500X for now.

Thanks for the feedback my friend! I think the CTX 1300 was considered over-priced, the styling was ahead of its time, Harley was flying high. I think it was a lot of things. I've moved on from the CTX due to my "new motorcycle compulsion" but I miss that sweet V4 and the wind protection of the CTX.

Awesome awesome comparison! New subbie here. I've never owned a Harley. They look nice but that's about it. I own Honda. My first motorcycle was the Honda Shadow 750 and now own the NC 750Xcc DCT with Abs and love it. We had the CTX 750 and 1300cc up here but only in the standard versions. I wanted the DCT version in that model but Honda Canada never brought it here which boggled my mind because we have the Goldwing, the NC, and the African Twin in the DCT. Great review!

I like the concept. But after finding out that the heat issue is just as serious as it on the ST 1300 I gave up on buying one of these beautiful well equipped machines with that well designed engine.. I can put up with a bad seat, I can put up with complicated to open saddlebags, I can put up with top-heavy machines, I can put up with poor gas mileage, I can put up with sub par brakes. I can put up with small fuel capacity. I can put up with no center stand.I can put up with Valve shims,, I can put up with a limited selection of replacement tires.. I can put up with lack of dealers within 100 miles. The thing I will not put up with is engine heat. I ride motorcycles in the summer fall and spring here in the Northeast.I have over 700,000 miles behind bars on my dozens and dozens of street bikes over the decades. Most of my miles have been on my commutes to and from work. One of the commuter machines I had I consider to be the best motorcycle for commuting in the entire history of the universe. The Honda Pacific coast. I commuted on two of those for decades. My first one got totaled with me sitting on it while waiting my turn at a stop sign. I replaced it with another Honda Pacific coast which I commuted on that one for 24 years. In all weather. I was one of those guys you would see riding to work in the rain when it’s 40° out. That was nowhere near as uncomfortable as commuting on a 90° plus day.. you can always get warm, but when it’s hot out, you can never get cool.. for my commute home I would saturate my Levi jacket with four pockets, and I would fill the pockets with ice cubes from the ice machine at work. I would soak a bandanna for inside my helmet and around my neck. By the time I got home 45 minutes later, I was completely dry, riding on all back roads with only four traffic lights and six stop signs.. I only parked my machines when they started salting the roads here in western Pennsylvania in late November through April sometimes.. The Honda Pacific Coast is water cooled and has a full fairing. Honda somehow designed that machine so you felt no heat whatsoever coming off of that radiator. I also had a Honda GL 1800 Goldwing, that Honda managed the heat coming off of that machine so that it was no problem. I went and test rode our Honda ST 1300. It seemed like the perfect package. It was used with 23,000 miles on it with many useful extras in it had never been dropped. I told the owner that I would not be back for at least an hour and I hit it off through the countryside through The unpopulated western Pennsylvania roads through farmlands .. 10 minutes out, my shins were actually burning from the heat pouring off of the radiators on that 85° day. I turned around and pulled in the guy’s driveway , The owner came up to me and said that was a quick hour. My first words to him were “how can you ride this thing with that oven heat coming on you? “. I could tell by his face he knew it was the dealbreaker. He said in a sub dude voice, that’s why it’s for sale, and that’s why it has very low mileage. You just can’t ride this thing if it’s above 80°. I have no idea how ST 1300 riders can stand riding those machines in climates were the temperature goes above 80°. I had all my gear on as usual, mesh jacket, Kevlar jeans, motorcycle street bike boots, deerskin gloves, full face helmet. I needed a shower after just that 10 minute ride out in the 10 minute ride back…. I took a pocket full of cash to buy that bike right now. Am I glad I got to test drive it first. I can’t imagine how people feel after buying one of these machines off the showroom floor without test driving it first. The machine in this video has the same engine same radiator same heat issue. That is a shame that Honda can’t somehow deal with the heat the way they did on the gold wings and the Pacific coast.. The excess heat issue also kept me from buying a Kawasaki concourse, and FJR..

Interesting stuff. I’m someone who hates the cold but heat doesn’t bother me nearly as much. I sold the CTX a couple years ago largely due to the suspension and just a desire to try something else. Right now I have a nice stable I’m very happy with: a BMW R18 Classic (heat is no problem as long as you’re not stationary), a Royal Enfield Int650 (again, no trouble from heat), and hottest of the three, a Kawasaki Vaquero. Funny that only the Vaquero is water-cooled, and I have the Ivan’s tune on it, which reduced the heat significantly, but it is by far the hottest running of the three.
@Jodyrides
@Jodyrides Жыл бұрын
@@QuentinsMotoVlog I liked the Vaquero I was looking for one used but there were never any for sale when I was in the market for one. Ended up buying my third Yamaha venture, a 2008 royal star venture. That is warm behind that fairing and those lowers that cannot be removed. So I ride my Kawasaki Z 400 on those warm days. it’s funny when I was looking for a large sport touring machine. The FJR and the concourse were already known as rolling oven’s. I ended up buying a moto guzzi norge - my 4th guzzi since 1979..Even with the cylinders less than 2 inches away, the heat was not an issue unless I was stopped in traffic. I read that online also that they are cooler with the lower fairing on then with the lower fairing removed. They do have a lot of history with wind tunnel testing, they have had a wind tunnel for decades at Guzzi..Actually, none of my Moto Guzzi’s had a problem with heat.. someone else on the Internet here on KZbin complained about the front end on that Honda that you had… it has been decades since I was on a machine that weighed less than 400 pounds. I started out on the two-stroke RDs, Kawasaki 350 and 400 triples, RZ 350, Bridgestone 350, and when I went to this Kawasaki Z 400, I have done 22 changes to make it comfortable, I actually have a couple videos here on KZbin pointing out the changes I’ve made like Corbin seat, rack in place of passenger seat, trunk, bar risers, GSXR 600 shock, adjustable fork preload caps, real horns, rubber topped foot pegs, comfort things like that. I actually have that Z 400 to the point, I think I could ride that across country. It has more than enough power/45 - 49 HP depending on where you read it. 64 miles to the gallon, zero engine heat. I find myself riding that 75% of the time instead of my Yamaha royal star venture which I’ve also made videos about the maintenance and set up on that one… I am absolutely stunned that the combined views on my videos is in excess of 160,000 views so far.. My videos have no graphics, no music, no big lead in introductions,and I will never appear in a video to ham it up.. If only I could learn how to edit videos. I have to do them all in one take start to finish until I learn that..It’s a lot of fun

Thanks for the feedback. I think your question really gets to the heart of my disappointment in Harley. Honda tries things. Harley is still making the same bike it made in the 1940s. Admittedly, Harley has refined the formula to an amazing degree. But it’s the same bike. Where is Harley’s V4? Where is their flat six? Or their inline six? Or anything except the same dumbass V twin they’ve made since motorcycles were invented? The laziness, the assumption that they didn’t have to invent. It drives me nuts.

I own this bike in the faster color (black), deluxe model. Love it. But it has some issues. The little compartments at the top of the "tank" barely hold anything, and are clunky to open and close. The USB port is inside the right compartment, and there is no opening in the compartment cover to allow a cable out, so you have to "improvise" that. The locks and latches on the saddlebags are terribly clunky as every other reviewer has stated and to which I can attest. The bags themselves don't hold a helmet, and because they flop downward, the minute you open the bag, everything wants to flop out. I'd much prefer a top loader. Some have cited an issue with engine heat being a problem, though I haven't really experienced it. The tabs that hold the fairing in place are prone to breakage. The luggage rack (which is optional, not standard) is cool looking but hard to get a bungee cord hook on due to the thickness of the bars. The menus could be easier to access and operate, for example, setting the clock. The side mirrors are cool looking but virtually useless, so accessory mirrors are recommended (some say just adjust the handlebars, but they're still not in optimal position). Now, that said, I love the bike. Coolest looking bike I ever owned. I've never been a Harley guy, and I don't see much point in comparing it to any Harley, as I think a person knows which side of the fence he's going to be on. I agree the Honda is a better value and much more practical. Like you said, it's a torque monster, accelerates quickly, is feature packed and comfortable, looks awesome, and... it's a HONDA. 'Nuff said! P.S. Nice saddlebag inserts, but I don't see them on Ebay. Help!
@QuentinsMotoVlog
@QuentinsMotoVlog 4 жыл бұрын
crupert23225 I agree with pretty much everything you said. The saddlebag latches never bothered me. I would put my wallet in the left fairing compartment and a pair of sunglasses in the right. I filed out a little notch for power from the USB to my phone. I still have the saddlebag inserts and they work well. Maybe I’ll throw them up on eBay for cheap and send you the link. I’ll also send the name of them-I can’t recall at the moment. They came from Russia.

Yes. Sadly I traded my CTX in some time ago to try other bikes. I grew tired of the wooden front suspension and I didn’t want to sink additional significant money into fixing it. Otherwise, the engine and comfort were both superb. There are CTX user groups that could help with sourcing parts. But I moved on. Currently I have a Royal Enfield Int650 Mark II with the chrome tank. I love it. I also have the unique and gorgeous BMW R18 Classic and I have a Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 as my scrambler/beater bike, which is an absolute hoot to ride. I’m lucky.

Yeah I find it pretty crazy that guys (and girls) are willing to pay 20, 30 even 40K for a Harley Davidson. I ride this bikes' predecessor - the ST1300 and absolutely love it. Currently I own a BMW R18 Classic, a Royal Enfield Int650, and a Harley Pan America. All three are great bikes. The Pan America is awesome. Harley has come some ways since then but unfortunately their prices have escalated as well. Not sure which I would recommend today. They stopped selling them because they didn't sell. That's a fact. The ST1300 loyalists hated them, and though they were below the F6b, many people paid extra for bigger bike. Basically the CTX1300 was a fail, just like the new Goldwing Valkyrie. Loved by the owners, but that's about it, just like the Magna's were (I owned one). So enjoy your bike, it's great, reliable, and even special (to you and other CTX riders), but let's stop knocking Harley's, at least they hold their value. Lol.

This bike, when new, cost about the same as the low end street glide. This bike listed at $17,999 when new. In 2018 (when this video was made) I saw them for as low as $4000 with 10K miles on them. That's a drop of 78% in 4 years. (2014 to 2018) A street glide that sold for $17999 in 2014 would be worth about at least $12000 in 2018. That's a drop of 34% (less than 1/2 what the CTX1300 dropped). Are they both good bike, YES. Are they different, Yes. But to say one is better than the other is in the eye of the beholder. Remember, when you say the CTX cost much less than the Street Glide (both new), you are dead wrong. But you are right in todays market. The CTX costs less. Much less than 1/2 of what a comparable Street Glide would cost today. That is not to say one is better than another, it just saying the market has fallen out from under the CTX, period. I knew a guy who bought one for $17999 as soon as they came out. He sold it two years later for $5500. He sold it because there were no after market parts for the CTX (and there aren't any today) He bought a (believe it or not) as Street Glide because he could get all the after market parts he wanted. He loved the CTX. He just wanted to add stuff to it and he couldn't do it with the CTX. Lesson learned

Both sets of mirrors you have are bad ldeas.. one is difficult to use for placement (looks good though) and the other add on's look horrible. those mulitple dealers to service your bike,, and with that back tire you brag about .. you will likely have trouble on the road replacing it if you are traveling no matter which dealer you go too,, How's your resale of your Street Glide killer?..
