Captain Jim, I have been here on KZbin watching a dozen or so videos all about the Honda CTX700 DCT, and I just have to say that out of all of them, I enjoyed yours the absolute most. It also helps that I live close by and used to ride my Burgman 650 all over that area and in the rurals beyond before I sold it.

My father has one that I've been riding since my bike is waiting for parts. It's a great user friendly bike and very nimble with good get up

I agree with a lot of what Capt. Jim stated. Why would Honda would stop this after just five years? I think it sold well in today's market, and surely much better overseas I would think. I bought one (DCT faring and bags) in May of 2018 to flip, guy wanted a Silverwing more for wind protection. I wanted to try a DCT and figured I would flip it. Instead I kept it for 6 months and really enjoyed it except the seat. Fine bike, quicker than I thought it would be. I can not imagine why anyone would want to ride it in neutered position. Going through towns of posted 35 mph and in 6th gear before 40 mph is not enjoyable - at least for me. This baby wants the sport mode to shift at proper gears. I only lost 2 to 3 mpg in sport, ( averaged 64 mpg in somewhat spirited riding in the country, and it is so much more enjoyable. Right now looking to get another for a while. Put me in charge on Honda and I build a similar bike like, relaxed feet forward with floorboards, with fairing and bags, and audio upgrade accessory, and a touring option and I put everything on it that the new Honda Rebel 1100 has with that great proven Honda 1100 motor and tech, including DCT or 6 speed manual. I wanted a new rebel 1100, sat on it and felt cheap and too cramped for me at 6 foot. People are wanting a powerful mid engine cruiser/bagger/tourer that does not weigh over 800 lbs and most are most receptive to a DCT once they try it out. Bring it in at 600 lbs or less and 13k and watch it fly off the floor. Listening Honda?

It would be great if Honda would import the new NT1100 with DCT sport tourer to the USA, but I guess that with this country being the land of the cruiser bike compared to other countries, they probably felt that if they’re going to go through all the trouble of importing a bike, then they might as well bring one in that’ll appeal the most to local tastes.

I absolutely love my CTX. Put 10,000 miles on it the first 12 months. I can't imagine why they discontinued this model.
@captainjim6052 жыл бұрын
Right there with you! It really is a well-rounded bike. I don't think Honda knew what to do with this bike... I consider it a "sport cruiser" - riding position similar to a cruiser, good low end torque, but sporty handling. Take good care of the one you have! Nothing else quite like it.

I wish Honda would remake this motorcycle with the 750 engine, and add a contemporary upgrade to the body style and headlights. Having ridden my friends CTX lead me to purchasing the NC700X, which lead me to purchasing the 750 X years later. If they, remade this motorcycle with these modifications, I would likely add it to my current fleet. Great video and review. Thank you for making it and publishing your opinions.

Hi Jim-Thanks for the chat on your new Honda. I've owned two of the "other" motorcycle that is a scooter, the Honda PC-800. I finally stopped riding that bike because the location of the shifter, my limited ankle movement and just some general old guy lack of flexibility made it unpleasant to ride very long. The CTX700 DCT might be an alternative. I still have my GTS300 and am looking forward to some warm spring weather to go riding! Take care!

Hi AGIB. I rode a Pacific Coast back when they were still being made - I thought it was an interesting bike, very capable and comfortable. I was riding Harleys at the time, so it wasn't anything I was looking for, but a dealer friend of mine came by with the bike and said, "I thought you might want to check out this Honda V-twin." The DCT transmission is an interesting technology - some might say "scooterish, on steroids." I'd be inclined to say: "Fun to ride!" It's too bad Honda doesn't still make the CTX - it is the "Goldilocks" fit for me between the Honda Rebel 1100 and the NC750X. I have decided to put the Vespa up for sale - not an easy decision for me, because I really enjoy that Italian beauty... but, I knew when I got the CTX I would probably have to choose between the two. Space is a concern for us. If you get a chance to check out the CTX, you might find it brings a lot to the riding experience. Hope you get in lots of riding this season!

Thanks for the comment, Chad. I am really enjoying the CTX - enough so that I sold my Vespa GTS 300 HPE. (only room for one bike each for us) Seems that scooter folks already appreciate what an "automatic" brings to the riding experience - the DCT gives you lots of options.

Very good easy to understand review. Thanks. I sure wish they included a shaft drive like the Deauville 700v.
@captainjim6052 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I agree that a shaft, or even belt-drive would be preferable. With the center stand I installed, chain maintenance isn't bad, though. Seems that Honda is sold on the chain, since that is what they are using on the Rebel 1100, Africa Twin, and the NC750X. As good as the rest of the bike is, I can live with the chain.

Excellent review. It seems Honda is investing the most in the dual transmission type of bikes like the one you’re riding. Given its size and weight that’s amazing gas milage. It’s a shame they’re no longer in production.

Good review, seems like a nice ride! Congrats :) BTW - did you notice the glitch in the Matrix your video reveals? See @7:16, guy on bike coming towards you next to red car. At 7:18, the guy crosses between you and car, and at same moment, an (apparently) bird shadow appears on the road to your left, by farthest tar snake, going towards guy on bike. Watch the 'bird' shadow - when it flies into the shadow of the guy on bike, it just stops, disappears - does not reemerge behind him like you would expect! Proof at last!!! :D Ride careful, Jim!

I see the bird emerge as clear as day behind the bike at 7:19, curve to the left, over the curb in front of the red SUV, and then over the home.

Nice video! A little over a year ago, I started riding again (after about a 30 year hiatus). First went with a Honda Forza 300, which had great storage and wind protection; yet I longed for a little more torque. Then went to a Royal Enfield Scram, which had the torque I wanted, and is just an excellent ride; great suspension. The CTX700 remained at the top of my list of bikes, which I was curious to test ride. Oh man, one came up for sell in my area last month. After about 5 minutes of riding, I was sold. This is my forever bike. In a sense it is very much like the Forza, yet fast. Have you had a chance to ride a CTX700 with the stock seat? I wonder how much of an improvement the Corbin is. Gearing up for longer rides.
@captainjim605 Жыл бұрын
Hi OkieBobby. I have the OEM seat, as well. It is lower than the Corbin and softer. It seems to have a more solid bit of foam right at my tailbone that makes it uncomfortable for me; I've read that Honda put that firmer foam there to move shorter legged riders forward a bit. I tell myself that one day I will take that seat apart and cut away some foam in that area... but, the Corbin is more comfortable (to me - I've had 4 of them) and gives me good lower back support.

I am 6 ft tall, 34 inseam; I find the stock seat very comfortable, but I weigh only 185 lbs. Maybe heavier guys don’t like it.

why the music-noise? cant hear the bike, exiting out
@captainjim605 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, Jay. I didn't use an in-helmet mic, and there is a LOT of wind noise from the 360 camera out in the breeze. So, I dropped that audio track out and did a voice over - even without the music, there would be no sound from the bike on this particular video. Check out some of my other videos, where you *can* hear the bike. Here's one with NO voice over - all bike sounds after the first few seconds of music intro. Something for everyone! kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpyvhmZ7qqxlgtk

Thinking of getting one. How much did the GIVI windshield cost? What is your MPG at freeway speed?
@captainjim6052 жыл бұрын
Hi Lee. The Givi windshield came with the bike, but I see it is $135 at Revzilla. The lowest MPG I've seen is 64, the highest was 80. 70 mpg seems to be where it comes in most of the time, regardless of how I ride it; usually a mix of in town and highway on a tank.
