Nicely done! Just made another water 'tube' for drinking water out of PVC .. have one built out of ABS but apparently it's not safe for drinking water .. which was ok because I just used it to wash off stuff like dishes, muddy shoes, etc. I decided to build one so I could use it for drinking water. The red stop plug that you use .. I use one on each end of the 4" tube which is 74.5" long and put a filler on top and a hose bib on the bottom and a air release valve for going up and down in altitude. I have a 5' tube on the opposite side of my roof and it was built to carry poles and hiking sticks .. had it for a few years now and I can tell you that when you go up into the mountains after filling the tube at sea level alot of pressure builds up .. as I found out going to open the tube to get my poles for the canopy and the red plug shot about 20' as I us loosening it! Therefore the Schrader valve with the inside removed so the tube can breath. The tube holds 3 3/4 gal.

No you don't. I've got mine mounted directly to my Yakima crossbars using 4 pipe clamps, 2 on each cross bar. So far I've not had any problems and the solar shower doesn't budge. Using a cheap inflator from harbor freight to pressurize the system takes but minutes and provides plenty of pressure for a shower.

I heated up the valve to tap the threads into the endcap. Then, I used right stuff to seal it. Right stuff is a gasket maker, and I just had some laying around.

This cracks me up because as I was brainstorming a water source for my E, I thought a 4" pipe on the rack might work. You just confirmed that for me! This looks good but I wonder if that is enough water in the single tube?

Great video!!! Do you have any reason not to buy black PVC, if so, you don'y need any paint job. Thanks. I bought black 6" PVC, that's big enough for 4 adults. each foot carries more than 1 gallon.

When I was looking into it, I think I saw someone saying something about it being more prone to cracking over time. I don't know how long that would take, but I imagine it would hold up long enough. I think I might try black on the next one.

Why need a fill spout?, With a quick connect?, You can fill it through the same “feed” that you hook up the handheld shower spout to.
@ElementofAdventure
@ElementofAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can fill it that way too. I imagine that you wouldn’t need to pressurize it if you have good water pressure filling it. Although, I put the inlet on so that I can fill it with jugs of water if needed.

Super cool what psi do you pump to?
@ElementofAdventure
@ElementofAdventure 6 жыл бұрын
I actually have not tested it out yet. I am told PVC pipe only likes around 18 psi. I did pump some air in it, but I did not have the plug on very well, and it blew off and landed in the yard across the street. I also had a leak that I needed to fix. I will test it out in a day or two. I think I will pump it up to like 14 psi to see how long it will push water out.

I have a similar setup on my 08 Element and honestly don't remember what pressure I use. I have a cheap inflator from Harbor Freight and pressurize the system enough to see the water come out the hose like a normal shower. The inflator is powered using the plug on the dashboard. The 4" x 6 foot PVC tube holds about 5 gallons and is enough for 2 showers.
