Road shower comes very handy if you love outdoors, camping and road trips etc. By DIY you can save $$$. We used this shower on our family expidition to Arctic Ocean In north west of Canada.
I got some feed back from American viewers that Home Depot in USA does not carry caps with seal, if you face the same issue then try it get from amazon or any online retailer.

That's a good shower, I'll be building a non-pressurised one in the summer because I like the idea of the solar shower but the problem with it is capacity, and for those living in a van the amount of water carried becomes more vital, the design you've used is good for those doing short trips but even then you have to keep connecting the air hose to maintain pressure over those days of use. My idea is for one that uses a 12v pump to force fresh cold water into the tube one end thus pushing the hotter water out the other, with this idea you can have the fresh water in a 60 litre reserve tank and the solar shower stays full.
@bergfpv6486

Exactly what I was thinking. Air pressure is fine, perhaps even needed for overlanding rigs, but for campervans that already have a pressurized water system it makes more sense to just tie it into that. Bonus: extra water storage and save on heating fuel/power.

A few tips: 1. dry fit the pieces before assembly and place on your roof rack with the hatch open. You want to be able to open the hatch fully when installed. 2. before cutting the main tube, position the t-fitting over the rear tire. This makes it easier to fill the shower as you can stand on the tire to fill it up. 3. use quick connect hose fittings (like Gilmour) for the hose connections. They are quicker and more leak-proof.

Thanks for this great tutorial. Two questions; 1 roughly how much water does this system hold? 2 how long would it spray for continuously if it's pressurised to 50 psi?
@BackCountryQuestCanada
@BackCountryQuestCanada 3 жыл бұрын
About 3 or so gallons in this unit but it depends on how big one make. Second answer is I never fill it to 50psi . And one time air fill is enough for one tank. I never timed it as time will vary depending on the nozzle size . I hope that helps !

Hello there, thank you for demonstrating a high pressure system. If you don't mind I have a couple questions. What brand is your pump and does it keep pressurizing the system as you expend water? My other question is more of a hypothetical scenario. I've been trying to imagine a modular system to pressurize multiple points within a trailer. For instance the shower inside, a sprayer for dishes, and a utility hose on the outside for muddy boots or cleaning the truck. My first thought was having multiple hoses coming from a single pipe, kind of like an octopus. Now I'm more thinking of a rack containing 4 to 5 pipe segments that are about 60 centimeters each. Each could be filled individually, or could be linked and filled at the same time, same with pressurizing. That way some of the chambers could be pressurized while others could be refilled. And, some of the chambers could be hot, while others were cold, or they could be mixed. Thought, I think the important function is being able have flexibility in how and when one is able to acquire water. Is this a wildly impractical or expensive idea? I think it could really be helpful for people who are on the road for a more extended duration. It's tough to feel clean enough sometimes. Having a water system that is easy to fill, can provide hot and cold water, for multiple functions, with good water pressure could really boost moral when times are tough. Maybe it's a crazy scheme but, I think there's something possible there. Thoughts?
@BackCountryQuestCanada
@BackCountryQuestCanada 3 жыл бұрын
Wow ! I think your idea is not wild, I also had those thoughts and because of those thoughts I installed this shower on my trailer bumper for dish and other general cleaning and I am planning to build one for truck bed to save some space on roof as water is pressured so it can be at any height. I think it will be more convenient to build multiple and fit in places where you need instead of making single big unit. It will be easy to fix too. If bigger unit have one leak it will stop whole system. I was thinking to make others this winter. I will post them as soon as make any different one. You can contact me on my Facebook page backcountry quest.

Hi. Thanks for this great video. I have heard mixed reports about whether to start with a black PVC pipe, or to start with the white pipe and then coat it with black liner or paint. I leave little bit room as I never measure water when out on trail. I just eye ball and leave room. It does not matter how much room we leave as long as we have reasonable pressure for shower to work it’s good. If you leave less room then you may have to pump air twice.

I can share my experience, I am using this from few years now, never had any problem as I empty it after every use. We I just use it for water and water, I drain all water and water does not leave any residue. This shower is not meant to be used as driving water storage as abs is meant for drinking water. We strictly use it for cleaning purposes. I believe those ready made expensive showers also will have same issue as they are all metal and no way to clean those. If you want to go above and beyond you can cleave 4 inch lid open after training and cover the opening with some fabric or mesh to prevent any thing going in to the shower . Let me know if you have any more questions.

I was able to order the Lesso 4inch ABS Plug from AquaFlo in Ventura as someone stated below but it still leaks. I am using a Lesso ABS Plug with a different US Home Depot version ABS pipe and maybe that is why it does not seal properly. I even changed out the Lesso O-Ring and made a rubber gasket as the clerk at Home Depot recommended and still leaks air. I could try the pipe wrap tape but that seems like a hassle to have to wrap every time you want to fill it with water. If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know. Almost to the point I'm going to fork out the money for the Road Shower.

@@BackCountryQuestCanada Yes, but you are using the Lesso Plug and probably Lesso ABS Pipe, right? Since the Home Depot in the US does not sell Lesso products, I am using the Lesso Plug with whatever the Home Depot product is. I had my shower built before watching your video so I only needed to have it sealed correctly at the plug. Still wondering if using the Lesso plug with Lesso Pipe is the answer to this frustrating problem.

Thanks for the video friend, I came across a problem following your video and wanted to ask your opinion. Everything is done and sealed good except for a slow leak I cant fix from the threads of the top cap. I noticed you didn't use ptfe tape. If I dont use ptfe tape on the threads, it leaks a little more. With ptfe thread, it leaks a bit slower but it is still there. With or without ptfe tape, I still tighten down with a wrench to make it flush. Any idea on what to do or try is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You could try some pipe thread sealant. Rectorseal is one brand, but it’ll be a little messy at each fill up.

@@brianlamb7164 Man i tried everything, including pipe thread sealant and could not get it to seal air tight with the 4" cleanout plug. Ended up sealing the 4" cleanout plug with abs cement, cutting off one end of my shower, and converting to a 2" cleanout plug and can finally use that to fill it with water and keep it air tight.
