Thanks for the update. Unpopular Opinion, I think the Predator is the better unit after seeing this test. Voltage dropping to mid 80's is well into brownout voltage territory which can be damaging to electrical devices expecting to see 115-125v. I'd rather the generator trip the breaker and letting me know i'm pulling too much than have a false sense of security, thinking I can put on a bigger load.
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
Well said. Now normally you wouldn't use a generator like this. Its purely for testing. I found it odd it didnt trip the breaker and reset. Almost wonder if something is wrong with it. I do like that it didnt try to push to much load and fry its own circuits but on the other hand it wouldn't be good for other devices using the load. Granted the heater and heat gun are cheap and replaceable and probably could run on those conditions for who knows how long. But other devices for sure could have problems. Interesting results for sure,now its up to people to see what they wanna buy. Options are always nice. Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching and Subscribe 👍😃

Agree with what others have said, maintaining voltage in the expected range is critical and can think of many electronic devices that would have been damaged under these conditions. You didn’t show frequency either and my bet is at those higher loads frequency of the loads is likely not to be at 60Hz either. Totally agree also with others the units protection circuit is not working as it should. This is a Honda fail and I think it may need to be serviced.
@bbushong673 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't doubt that the frequency stayed at 60 Hz... it's an inverter, shouldn't be affected by the load. Of course, on the other hand, the generator shouldn't allow the voltage to go that low, either... so who really knows what the frequency is...

If I had to rely on the generator for daily use I might spend the money for the Honda but for just intermittent use the predator would work fine for me.
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
For the most part, thats what they are for and stored properly or using non ethanol fuel you should be fine for years.
@dlloyd63003 жыл бұрын
That is a HUGE failure on the Honda. The Honda should be going into protect mode. Under volting to that level will destroy many electronics that aren't dumb resistive heating elements or simple motors etc. VERY bad!
@killer26003 жыл бұрын
Indeed, this isn't the generator protecting itself. It's the generator failing to cut out when it can't handle the demand. I'm quite disappointed, when overloaded and pulling 18 amps the circuit breaker didn't trip.
@otm6462 жыл бұрын
@@killer2600 You need to understand that breakers are time temperature devices they don't just pop once you get over 15 amps. There are different trip curves, the breaker might allow you to run for 15 minutes or longer at 18 amps especially if it's cold out before it opens.

After watching the video, I have reached the opposite opinion of yours. I do not like the fact that the Honda will allow the voltage to drop so low. Many electronics will be damaged at voltages those voltages. This video actually makes me lean away from buying the Honda.

I was surprised to that it allowed that. I to would rather have it shut off. Hence i might think something is wrong with that one.

@@johnnysweekends I would try a different Honda, or the new EU2200i since that's the one being sold. One example is not good. How is the voltage drop on the Predator or other 2000W units you've tested?
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
So you can see in my other videos the voltage drop is not nearly as much as the Honda. All the others shut off about 112 to 110 volts. I have another video coming out Thursday with another Honda different from original test. Only difference is its a companion model but it's the same. And it do will do the same, it will let ypu add gradual power to where the voltage drops low below 105. Youll see the video soon. I just find it odd honda will let the voltage drop that much. I know they are rated to run max 2000 watt power for i think 20 mins...maybe 15, ill have to read that again but still not good if voltage is dropping way low

I've got the Honda and it's not hard to put it into protect mode. When we were without power due to a tree taking out the power lines, we were getting by on the generator for almost an entire week. With the essentials going we were running 1837 watts. If we tried to charge our cell phones without giving up something else, it would go into protect mode anywhere from 5minutes-15minutes later. I just assumed my meter wasn't too accurate and was calculating the load a bit low. I don't have the Honda model that can be paired with another unit, so I was looking up reviews to decide if it was worth picking up 2 of the Predator models.
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
The Honda and Yamaha both have a max rating they can run for up to 30 minutes so the Honda and Yamaha say. So 2000 watts for up to...30 minutes. I would really look at the Aipower especially on Amazon they are $386 each and unlike the predator model you don’t need a parallel adapter which you do for predator which is another small chunk of money. Watch the predator review vs Aipower Or the Aipower with a Aipower with Yamaha engine. Just FYI,, Aipower and predator 2000 watt use the same engine.
@tristanschaper2813 жыл бұрын
I have a Honda EU2000 from about 2011, and it drops the load and the overload light flashes, when exceeding the rating. Something actually seems wrong with your unit. I've never seen a gas inverter gen keep the load on with the voltage so low. The only exception are dual fuel gens. Typically their electronics are rated to "cutout"/overload at their higher "gas" ratings. An overloaded dual fuel gen running on propane can often hit max watt output and the voltage starts to drop without electronically cutting the load.
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
I think it has to do with the load I applied more then anything. Being the polisher is freely spinning so it’s load is now minimal at that wattage so it was probably able to hold it easily. I have a updated vid showing watts amps and volts.

on sale.... predator $450.... thats what works for me 5 years occasional use very little maintenance still running strong / BONUS: $100 and Harbor Freight sells you a full 2yr warranty on the Predator 2000, so if you bring it back within 2 years , BOOM, new generator, no hassle no questions asked. The fact that the voltage drops so much on the Honda Generator probably indicates that the inverter in that unit is faulty. That should not happen and probably would destroy many things hooked up to that generator.

That's a genius move from Honda. Instead of using a dumb circuit breaker, they leverage the computer needed to control the inverter to help you stay powered even when you try to overload the unit. With a very well designed inverter you can lower the voltage while keeping the frequency at 60Hz not to harm the load while avoiding to shut the power down in the middle of a hurricane! Also the user will feel that his appliances are running slower/colder which will instinctively convey the message of an overloaded generator without the disruptive action of a shutdown. Only low oil or no gas should shut it down. Go Honda, you rock!
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
lol nice
@N6EAJ3 жыл бұрын
However they are letting the output current rise as they lower the output V. Since I^2*R is power, that higher output current can put a lot more heat into your inverter components. Since the current is squared, a few more amps can produce a lot more power loss and heat.
@johnnysweekends3 жыл бұрын
At 60hrtz and pure sign wave isn’t the current not square… or modified??
@INSOFTUSA3 жыл бұрын
@@N6EAJ that's a great point. I was wondering from the video why Honda decided to derate the wattage when voltage starts dropping. I saw that in the video and sounded strange at first. But what they are doing is lowering the power from 2000w down to 1650ish to avoid increasing the current too much.
@INSOFTUSA3 жыл бұрын
@@johnnysweekends you are correct. An inverter with sine output into a resistive load will have a sine current waveform. But N6EAJ was not referring to squared as in the waveform, he was referring to the mathematics operator.
