Lok Tom How does the ownership of a Honda generator make someone a douchbag? Are you saying that there are other small generators with the history of dependability and low noise as a Honda? I work with contractors that depend on their generators to place food on their tables. And the most common generators that I find are Honda’s. Not only are they rugged, quiet, and reliable, but if some part was to wear out or fail, any lawnmower shop across the country stocks parts for them. A new air cleaner, a new gasket, a pull rope, or even a new carburetor. They’ll have you back at your job site within a matter of hours. Look, everyone loves a bargain. I sure do. It’s not like we’re comparing a $150,000 Porsche to a $35,000 Mustang. We’re talking $5-600 difference which plenty of people can save a little longer for.

I buy the best because I can afford too, and even if I didn't have the cash, I'd save up and have to buy it only once. Try and get parts for that Ryobi when it breaks. The clear choice is a Honda. Many folks don't have the cash or simply don't want to spend it and therefore justify their purchase the words like "run the hell out it". I'll take my Honda, you can have your Ryobi, HF, Iron Horse, Wen, Pulsar, and any other off brand genie. The only other brand I'd even consider is the Yamaha, and it's a distant second.

The Ryobi, which is pretty much the same as the Echo 2300 inverter probably has an 80 cc OHV engine. The Honda's GXR120 is 121cc. There is an advantage of having a larger engine for these units being Project Farm found that when a heavy load is powered on the voltage drop is within the 110VAC range on the Honda while others with a smaller engine like the 80cc are as severe as 90VAC and also the recovery times (where the voltage goes back to 120VAC) is also shorter on the Honda.

The wheels and pull handle of the Ryobi easily offsets the 10-pound difference between the generators. There have been other reviewers who say the Ryobi runs the same at higher altitudes as at lower. Everything else is minor issues. The $400 price difference is the deal breaker. Also, try to find a Honda generator...they are constantly stolen from trucks that deliver them to places like Home Depot. Heck, they're constantly stolen from anywhere. They run great but you won't be keeping it for very long.

Jealous Australian here. Local Honda version is the EU22i (240V, 50Hz). I'm leaning towards a linked pair for home blackout back up, but haven't found a local Natural Gas kit supplier. I think the quiet operation reliability and versatility of the twin units will swing it for me. Lighter weight will also be a bonus as the best generator location will be a specially prepared area on the roof of my Victorian Terrace (actually will assist in noise spillage). I bought the Ryobi 2300 to power a 5,000 btu air conditioner. It would go into overload when the compressor would cycle rendering it useless! I returned it and though I would give the Honda a try.... well..... The Honda worked perfectly!! So far I have about 40 hours on it without incident! BUY the Honda!!!!! Btw, used both at an elevation of 300ft.

A 5000 btu air conditioner are you serious? I could run a 5000 btu air conditioner with my Harbor Freight 700 watt Tailgator I guess Ryobi's really are junk. I have a Honda EU2000i and a Ryobi 2300. Both will run a 5000 BTU AC AND my fridge freezer. On eco they will both grunt. The answer is you have to take them off eco. The Ryobi under these conditions especially works fine. The BT is phenomenal. So are the handle and wheels. The savings of about $300 with tax wasn't bad either. My problem is extended run. A guy on Ebay is the only guy selling stuff to do that wit the Ryobi so naturally he is expensive. A Honda is easy to get extended run stuff for $10. The Honda died and forced me to buy a Ryobi. Hopefully the parts I bought will fix it because I want them both. I want to know if it is possible to parallel connect the 2 different brands. I think it is.

You may have just had a spark plug issue such as an improper gap but also the spark plug that comes with it is a Chinese brand called torch and they aren’t really good, in the manual they recommend replacing it with an NGK plug.

Sat next to the ryobi and had a normal conservation with my wife with no issue... extra noise comes from the handle small rubber stopper handles it Ryobi is on wheels with a handle, barely ever lift it. Half the price can partner for 2x the power and is no louder and still cheaper. You have to assume you have enough gas for the night and risk 3am outside playtime with the generator when predators hunt. I check my phone and know the load, run time, fuel amount and consumption, and can adjust or stop the thing from my phone. That's why I went for the Ryobi.

Nice Video. I love Honda products. I like those fuel off features but I can't afford a Honda. So I got a Briggs & Stratton 2200. On mine the on/off knob is actually a fuel valve with a micro switch that stops the electrical power to the engine. So I disconnected the micro switch and wired it to a (always off) momentary switch on the front panel to kill the engine for refueling or when ever I need to quickly shut it down. Now when I turn the knob to the off position the engine keeps running for approximately three minutes until the carburetor is empty. Another bonus is the Briggs & stratton has a fuel pump similar to the honda so I can connect an auxiliary fuel tank if I want (just like Honda) and even better the Briggs is NOT CARB compliant so the air fuel mixture is not as lean as a CARB compliant engine. It does have a spark arrestor though. I don't live in Kalifornia so I don't need that CARB nonsense. I use my inverter for work and around the house.
@cwooten77953 жыл бұрын
I have both. Real world the noise is about the same. I have had a carburetor issue with the Honda. The Ryobi runs perfect but I do use stabilizer in each tank. Now the price difference at $629 vs 1,100 you decide.

Your video was informative and enjoyable to watch. You do a great job with pacing and the amount of detail you provide. The comparison with the Ryobi was helpful to better understand the Honda. I expect the battery upgrade you did works well with the Honda generator. Eventhough we have a motorhome with an Onan 6000 Diesel generator, i enjoy watching and learning from your videos.
@TheMickeymental6 жыл бұрын
Please make a correction in your video. When using the fuel-off position, the unit will use most of the fuel, see page 28 of manual, for storage you need to drain the carburetor completely, see page 61. Most of the problems with high altitude are related to changing the carburetor jet; the Honda jets are available from various suppliers. Honda carburetors are very picky about dirt and this unit does have a fuel filter located at the bottom of the fuel tank, but you must take off the front of the generator for removal or cleaning. I had the eu3000is and I loved it, I just placed it on a piano dolly. It is a great generator very quiet, and 25 amps. It is heavy and you need a battery tender for the starter battery. The Handi version is more expensive, less power, no starter, but a lot less weight. As an aside the Yamaha inverter series came out years ago and it was hailed as the great competitor to Honda. They are now having many problems after long term use, and the service centers are not as ubiquitous as Honda. The surge rate of the Yamaha's is usually for thirty seconds, while the Honda's are thirty minutes; this is good in an emergency situation. I use marine gas and put a bit of carb cleaner in each tankful, I also change my oil even if I run the generator for five minutes (I know). The two musts are to break the engine in properly, generatorgrid.com/blog/break-in/ and do not use synthetic oil to break in the engine or after at least fifty hours of use. Two accessories that are "required" are a magnetic oil dipstick, and an hour meter. Purchase extension cords that are minimum 12 AWG, and a carbon monoxide detector. I use flat extension cords for a tighter fit and block the opening with a towel. These units have great resale value and used ones do not last long in the marketplace. This is the store I have used in the past and I spoke with them recently and they assured me they had the parts for the EU2200i. planopower.com/store/honda/eu2000i.php Best of luck on your new Honda.

I have the Ryobi and have little experience with the Honda...I have however heard a Honda run and I can say I am disappointed in how loud my Ryobi is. I've used my Ryobi once during a power outage to partially power my house. It's fairly annoying sitting on the ground with the exhaust pointed away from my house while I'm sleeping in the second story. There is definitely running issues in high altitude with the Ryobi. It would not run the A/C in my camper without stalling until I turned off the idle and furthermore have had issues with it stalling when running things such as a 1,500w space heater. I did discover the secret is to slightly run the choke so the carb can compensate to the lower atmospheric pressure. I'm happy with my purchase for $629...but I can definitely see the draw to spending $1k+ for the Honda.

I've had several Honda cars (and one motorcyle) in the past 40+ years. Flawless in every case and always punched above their weight class. Love 'em and trust 'em. But, a few months ago, we had a very large and heavy (maple) branch fall in a storm. Really more like a large section of the tree. I figured I would just get a cheap chainsaw for the one use. Nonetheless, I heavily researched the Ryobis pitted against the standard of chainsaws - the Huskys, and it got very strong reviews. These were not just Harry Homeowners, they were commercial guys. Ryobi performed so well, I am going to use it for a bigger project. We'll see how she does, but so far, so good!

The Ryobi 2300 would not power my RV microwave at 6000ft. It would at 1200ft. My older EU2000i powered the same microwave off and on possibly 100's of times in 10 years. I even remember using it at 9500ft. I now have a new EU2200i.

Yes I thank you for your honesty so many clickbait use generators that are not the quality of Hondas and they try to say they're much better I would not buy one of those for half the price
@momandpop61106 жыл бұрын
You lost all credibility at the weight comparison. The Ryobi is 8lb heavier dry. Guess how much it will exactly be heavier with a gallon of gas. 8lbs. This is sightly less than a gallon of milk. A gallon of milk will up the load to requiring 2 people?
@wanderlustorbust24346 жыл бұрын
You are somewhat spot on. Weight is indeed weight. However, the Honda holds less than a gallon of gas while the Ryobi holds 1.3 gallons, so a fully fueled Ryobi is heavier than a full fueled Honda. To be clear, the difference I meant to point out was the total weight. A full Ryobi weighs around 61 lbs. A full Honda around 52 lbs. The gap from 50 lbs to 60 lbs is often a breaking point for carrying weight. In the case of my wife and others I know, the Honda is as much as they can carry safely without help. Perhaps this is why the Ryobi wisely added a roll cart feature. Thanks for the feedback. Good point.

Wait what? 50 dba is twice as loud as a 40 dba noise source? Boy you do suck at math. 50 dba is 50 dba, 40 dba is 40 dba it's not math, it's physics. I am a Certified Hearing Conservationist and an Industrial Hygienist. Sound pressure is sound pressure. Now if you double the source (2 Hondas) the noise does not double, it only increases by 7. In terms of distance from a noise source if you double the distance the level is only reduced by 5. The way they measure sound pressure levels for these machines, any commercial machines is from 5 feet away. In addition OSHA considers any noise above 90 dba as hazardous or as requiring hearing conservation devices (29 CFR 1910.95). However 10 CFR 851 sets the level at 85 dba.

Regarding his statement about decibels....there is the subjective side of "louder" that I thought he might be talking about. If it's just power as measured on a meter, 3 db is a doubling.

The reason for this test is more people are buying the cheaper ones because Honda is to pricey, and the ryobi does not weigh near that much with fuel, you must be a Honda salesman, drop the price on the Honda you will sell more of them, you can turn the off knob just before the engine stalls it will turn the fuel off so the engine will use all the fuel in the carburetor and you will not have to drain the carburetor for storage this comparison is a pile of 🐂💩💩💩💩

Have you had a bad experience with Honda? I prefer maintenance on my fz-07 over my crf-450. Much simpler, but they are from two different cuts of cloth.
@chivosadventures81715 жыл бұрын
@@micahvanbruggen8954 No I haven't to be honest I just prefer Yamaha ever since I had my RT100, YZ150 and YZ250 I really liked Yamaha. Now don't get me wrong I'm not trying to bash the Honda, I'm pretty positive that Honda makes a great generator maybe even the best out there, but all I am saying is that if Honda would have put a fuel gauge on their revised edition I would have most definitely bought the Honda over the Yamaha just because the Honda now has 200 more watts of running power, not just that but it has more CC's which is very important in my opinion, but the Yamaha is a little lighter, it was about $150 cheaper and it has a fuel gauge.

A clean wooden dowel makes a great gas dipstick. Fill the genny to the max-fill line, put the dowel in the tank, remove and mark the max level. A notch will do. Half that is 1/2 a tank, make a mark, and so forth. Actually, I just top my genny with a 1 gallon tank off at each use. Not a big problem.
