Hard to beat a Honda EU2000 generator. I've had mine for 17 years with no problems. I live off grid and use it to charge batts when solar is low. I use Mobil 1 with 20% Lucas oil and change about once per month. No smoke, always starts.

For me, The Ryobi would be more than good enough, I just want something for emergency power at home during a outage, might only use it one or two times a year or maybe not at all, and with that type of light usage that Ryobi would last me many years , and paying twice as much for the Honda would be over kill, One thing to note on the Honda, if you decided after a few years that you no longer needed a generator , you could get almost 3/4 of the original price , and it would be a easy sell because people are always on the look out for these when they come up for sale , while you will be lucky to get 200 dollars for the Ryobi and almost have to give it away.

There is no replacement for displacement. The Honda engine is 41cc larger so there is no way for the Ryobi to out perform the Honda. The Ryobi is half the cost because you are getting half as much engine. There is no way that the Ryobi can handle the same load as the Honda. Anybody who knows engines know this. Honda is number one for a reason. I will keep my Honda’s.

This is really, really old school mentality. It's not anymore 1960s. The Ryobi's engine is built with substantially better technological advancements to account for the 40 cc difference you're quoting. Actually having owned a Honda I can confidently say there were times when Honda struggled to kick start my portable 14,000 BTU AC whereas till date Ryobi has not failed once. [I have Ryobi parallel kit but for this statement I am doing 1:1 comparison]

That's my concern buying one of these other brands. It's like buying a v-6 turbo to do the same work as a v-8 naturally aspirated. The v-8 will last WAY longer, but I'm not gonna be running a generator but a few times per yr. idk.

I have the Ryobi 2300. Best inverter generator I've ever owned. The app alone is worth going with Ryobi. I bought my RYI2300 right after my brother purchased his Honda 2000. I've put 200+ hours on mine with no issues at all. His has half the hours and he's already had to take it in for servicing due to it surging and shutting off randomly. @redcanyonoutdoorquest6220
@redcanyonoutdoorquest6220 5 жыл бұрын
Answer to how long the Ryobi will last: I bought one in 2012 on short notice up in northern Minnesota because it was all I could find. I figured at that price, if I got a year out of it, I’d be ok with that. Oh, I use it for RV camping. I also figured I’d get another one later on to parallel them for running the ac. Later that winter I was working in Missouri and the RV Park I was in lost all power one night due to a heavy ice storm. I fired up the ryobi and was fine. Power was out there for 3 days. I filled the ryobi 4 times over a 24 hour period and it ran for 3 days without stopping until we got power back on. Not a hiccup. I used it around once a month when I’d take the trailer camping (32 foot Laredo 5th wheel). It couldn’t handle the ac so I bought a parallel box that Home Depot sells for it. Once a year I’d have it serviced at a small engine repair place. I’d always put Staybill in my gas. That’s VERY important for small engines. Two years ago I bought 2 Hondas and gave the ryobi to a friend with a camp trailer and he’s still using it. I’d put them on par with the Honda’s any day.

The Companion is not the "brain" unit when paralleling a pair of Hondas. The Companion simply has a 30 amp twist lock plug on it, an it includes an adapter for an RV 30 amp plug. THat's the ONLY difference between the Companion and standard EU2200i. You can parallel two non companion models together - you don't NEED one of them to be a companion model.

Gravity fed fuel supply is never pressurized. You open the vent so it will drain into the carb floatbowl. Leaving the vent closed while placing it into the sun could add a little pressure, but you open the vent to relieve the vacuum so the fuel will drain. Gas caps without a vent switch have a tiny opening that can evaporate, but it's miniscule, unless tipped over. A vent switch won't leak gas when tipped while not being used in the garage.

Hii 1 question, do you think the switch bottom that turns the generator off, you think this also shoot the gas off?? Or it's just a electrical function that just cut the electricity to turning it off?? I'm wondering because I'm thinking about how can I shoot off the gas before it would turned it off completely (in order to run it dry and avoid bad gas stick in the carburator)

I've work on a half dozen of these small Honda generators and I don't know what the manufacturer was thinking ifnyou have to replace the recoil or and a new pull cord to it, or if you need to rebuild the carburetor. .. the issue is having to disassemble the unit by taking off all the panels to get to the recoil and or the carburetor. 😮 I am getting ready to work on a Ryobi and , again, it looks just like the basic same set up that you have to remove all the panels to get access to the carburetor. So like which one makes the most noise which one is the most expensive to get worked on and which one lasts the longest without maintenance? I got a Ryobi the plastic knob that chokes it and turns it on and off stripped out within a month. The gas tank filter are over the top of the electric circuit board which is on the bottom of the generator and exposed. Very tight to get in there and check the wire fittings. The Ryobi generator has a webbed plastic bottom with a couple of holes drilled in the middle. Water or gasoline collect all around that hole with no way to drain out almost touching the bottom of the circuit board. I've had one less than a year and it work great for a month or two oh, and you know and it started stalling out and now I'm waiting on parts. An electric module that controls the engine carburetor. Don't know why it burned out. But it doesn't accelerate when I plug in my refrigerator. They want $569 for one and I wouldn't give you 200.

Very costly to fix, usually not economical to do so. Seldom if ever do I work on Honda’s, except for fuel/carb related issues. Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki gensets superior to all else. Generac has gone down hill in recent years. The Predator line of generators and inverters from Harbor Freight are the best value out these. Good pricing, decent quality. Still nothing’s better than a Honda Yamaha Kawasaki.

@@shanew7361 In my view it's like the motorcycle helmet slogan. If you have a $100 head, buy a $100 helmet. When I want backup power, I want it now. There are, and will always be more 10 year+ old honda generators (that still work like new) than there will be Ryobi or predators. and after the first hour of use when the novelty of the phone app wears off, you will likely never use it again. The only gadget I want on my generator is a low oil switch. Keep all your bluetooth, CO detector and automation crap.

New to your channel/vids - one unsolicited recommendation: (public speaking rule #1) introduce yourselves, ("welcome to BClife, I'm ___ & I'm ___" or whatever). The guy in the red shirt did say "...go ahead, Sam" - but didn't hear his own name & 2 seconds to say "this is Sam & I'm ___" ... just more professionalism to your broadcast. 2nd - liked the basic overview... I would REALLY like to see you guys do a head to head performance on these (& maybe add the other one that typically is rated almost as high as the Honda for most websites, the Yamaha). But I am looking at these exact units for myself, would appreciate your pros/cons & overall recommendation. 3rd - don't even know you guys, but had to laugh at how red-shirt dude slid into to total spaced mode at 2:05 until snapping out of it at 2:30 or so ... :D LOL good stuff! :P Lastly - dug the video, looks like you guys use your stuff more similarly to how I do (compared to other youtubers that are older rv camper folk or construction dudes just looking at worksite capabilities - I'm camping backcountry, setting up tailgating at snowboard/mtb events & the like), I would appreciate your opinion on these units, I look forward to the other vids... I'll be subscribing thanks!

Really appreciate the feedback. Most of our videos we do introduce ourselves but TOTALLY messed up and didn't in this vid haha. You are right this is a basic overview. We plan on doing a more in-depth review of each of the generators and what we would use in the backcountry and why. We do have another KZbin channel that is for Ryobi tools only....This is vid is a Top 5 things we like about the Ryobi Generator kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z33bhYpnnsSog7M. It was pretty late at night so there probably a ton of spaced out looks from this video haha. Or really Logan (Red Shirt) thinks I am boring as Shit. However, thanks again for the constructive solid feedback. Let us know what else you would like us to review.

Here is the big Bomb shell. Look at the Engine size. Honda has 121 cc the Ryobi has a 80 cc . You will not even come close to 2000 watts with Ryobi let alone 2300 peek. With Honda hands down you will get the power they claim. Anyone can make a sticker but Honda produces power.

Hilarious!! That Ryobi 80cc engine won't product 2300 watts on a good day! The Honda’s larger 121cc engine actually produces the power it claims. Ryobi struggled to produce a constant 1600 watts with their old 2000 watt model with a tiny 80cc engine. Magically it can now produce 2300 peak & 1800 running with the same scrawny 80cc engine? -Laughable! Sorry to be critical, but people should know they are being misled (not by Backcountry, but by Ryobi). Icing on the cake was at 2:57 when the sticker peels off the gen. Even the labels are crappy!! LOL Do an actual load test on each gen & you’ll find out why you pay more for the Honda. -Compare the engine size & actual performance, not the sticker’s rating.
