Great video :) One other maintenance tip I do. I take the air box out so I gain access to the fuel valve sediment bowel. You put a shop rag under it to catch the fuel dribbles when the bowel is removed. Once removed, you'll see the gunk in the bottom that it catches. Also, check to see if moisture is in the bowel when you remove it. That will tell you that you have gotten water in your fuel.

That's a great tip! I'll have to start doing that. Thanks for sharing.

I'm relieved to learn that I'm not the only one who loves their Honda generator so much that they wax it!

@@PurpleCollarLife You're the only one besides me who admitted it. All jokes aside, a generator could mean life or death even in a short power failure, so I take very good care of my backup equipment.

Great little video. When I purchased my 2000 I also picked up an hour meter and installed it. When serviced I put a label with the 'next hours due' date next to the hour meter.

Great tip! I wish I would have added an hour meter to mine when it was new. I've thought about adding one just for maintenance purposes.

Good Morning Sir, first you have THE BEST BRAND generator ever and that is not only me telling you that but my step father who work in the biggest generator maintenance company in Canada and Norden USA. I have an Honda generator EM 6500 SX ( winter ) and yes they are expensive ( around 4000 $ cnd fnd) but they are OUTSTANDINGLY RELIABLE. OUTSTANDING tip about dielectric grease many OUTSTANDING MAINTENANCE TIPS 👌👌🧐 My 25cents tips, you can use a vacuum to dust off the inside of you generator and that is very important 😉👍 You should also clean off your the underneath 👍👍😉😉👌👌 Again Sir OUTSTANDING MAINTENANCE VIDEO SIR👌👌😉😉👍👍Cheers 🍻🍻

The crush washer under the oil drain plug should be replaced when changing the oil. It gets crushed and deforms to the shape of the drain plug. They are cheap and prevent leaks and possibly overtightening while attempting to make the dripping stop.

I have the same model, but on wheels for powering the secondary garage, works flawless for years and yes the spark plug could have had a more userfriendly position. I did put an hour meter on it just to keep track, it’s an easy job and there are lots of tutorials on YT and I think it costed around 15€ (=15$) back in the day I.e. 2015. Seen the limited hours it runs < 25 hrs/year I do the oil change only every 2 years. Air filter = visual check.

Thanks for sharing! I sometimes wish I had the wheel kit on mine. But I need it to fit under the tonneau cover on our truck when we're camping. The wheel kit makes it too tall. It's a great generator. I might look into putting an hour meter on mine since you mentioned it. I would have no idea how many hours are currently on it. But at least that would let me keep better track of maintenance intervals moving forward. Thanks for watching and leaving the comment!

I just bought a brand new EU3000is Honda generator and I ran into the same problem you had with the spark plug. The socket will not set on the plug squarely and correctly centered due to the valve cover interfering with the socket. You were not on the spark plug squarely and this gave you some problems installing the new plug @11:19. I noticed you were having some trouble starting the new plug , then your video cut to when you were running it in with the ratchet. The valve cover design needs a cut out so you can install the plug socket square and centered onto the plug before attempting to remove or install a spark plug. Thanks for video. I am contacting my dealer tomorrow to ask what the remedy is. I haven't even started the unit yet.

You're absolutely right! I could not get the threads lined up because of the angle. I eventually got it - but I was super careful starting it by hand so that I didn't strip out those threads.

How often do you clean the spark arrestor? The manual is quite extreme in all the maintenance, but I don't like messing with something running great.
@PurpleCollarLife2 жыл бұрын
I've cleaned it once. The dealership cleaned it the first two years.

What do you do for maintenance for winter. Do you put stabile in gas tank ?
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
Great question. I try to run it totally dry of gas. If I have too much in there, I do use Sta-bil in it. I also disconnect the battery and re-connect it in the Spring.

But how do you charge the battery?
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
Connecting the RV power cord to the generator charges the battery. There is a built-in battery charger in the electrical system of most RVs, so that when you’re plugged into shore power (main power), it charges and keeps the battery charged.

So you annual maintenance does not consist of checking the sediment cup or the flame arrester....but 1/3 of the video was dedicated to wiping and waxing the outside 😂
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I don't check those items (sediment cup and flame arrester) every single year. We typically only use the generator around 10-20 hours annually. But I agree - a person should check the arrester and sediment bowl) as part of their annual maintenance. I messed up. Thanks for the info.
