You got the best set up. chain it down so no one steals it when using it

Thank ya! I have plans to make a generator shed soon with a slab to chain it down to.

I have the same generator but it couldn't start my 4 ton HVAC even with a soft start. Inrush came down from 137A to about 55A. I ended up getting a rack mount 20kWh battery backup with a 12k low frequency split phase inverter feeding my interlock and this can start the HVAC. For extended outages, the Honda will be used to recharge the batteries when they get low. I like having the battery backup for short outages since I don't have to get the generator out. For longer outages or a prolonged grid down scenario the generator will only need to run a few hours per day and I can secure it in the garage at night while the house runs on battery power. A battery/inverter system can be expensive, but you get a 30% tax credit on battery storage now under the Inflation Reduction Act, so that helps for sure.

I think the generator can only handle 30 amps. 55amps may be over doing it still with the 4 ton hvac. I was going to get a standby generator but it was way out of my budget. For my home, the Honda is able to power almost everything. At least the essentials to be comfortable. I just need to figure out storage for the generator like a generator run shed so I can stop dragging it out of the garage and hauling it to the backyard. That gets real old lol

How much room does that system take and what is the expected life-span of the battery backup?

any idea, how long that generator would run with the AC, fridge, and fan filled with gas before you had to fill it completely again?

Probably a range of 10-15 would be my guess

Never understood breaker boxes outside. Mine is in garage. Much more accessible and removed from the elements. I don’t think that has anything to do with newer building codes.

Wish mine was inside. I don’t understand it either.

Fire dept can quickly cut the main power off. Most of my breakers are in the garage (sub-panel), but my main panel is outside next to the meter can, and contains a few breakers, along with my surge protector, and my dedicated breaker for the generator. This made adding my 30 amp power inlet box super easy to install on the outside of the house where it properly belongs.

@@spacecoastz4026 I like mine right where it is secured in the garage right next to all my breakers

@@spacecoastz4026 Breaker box doesn't need to be outside for FD to cut main power. Main power can be cut by simply pulling meter regardless where breaker box is located. Breaker boxes outside just invites preventable trouble. Tampering, criminal or otherwise, pranks, exposure to elements all can be prevented simply by better placement selection.
