In this video I remove and install a new OEM compressor on a customers 2009 Honda FIT with the big 1.5L. The compressor on the car is still good but the magnetic clutch has started to fail and the customer requested a whole new compressor.
-Enjoy!

Japanese guys who watch these mechanic channels must get a swell of pride every time the mechanic remarks how the part must be good because it's from Japan. Same with the guys in Taiwan. The Chinese guys, on the other hand . . .

for starters we need someway to drain the system and refill it lol and then theres the pain in the ass of how tight that engine bay is. it almost makes it vital to have a lift to move around the whole car.

having all the tools helps. having a lift REALLY helps. when you're not having to get up and down from your back to work on things, it's a major time saver. still, there's pride in getting it done no matter how you do it.

Great "funky" video. As a HVAC tech, I would never trust vacuum for a leak test. Obviously it will show a big leak, but this system didn't come in empty, so like you, I would run with it. Had it been empty, I would have put a vapor charge or nitrogen in and found/fixed the leaks and do another recovery. Some leaks will require expensive and difficult parts replacement. It sucks to replace one leaky component, only to find another after you did all that work. Open systems can be very troublesome and many will not work on them. I would like to mention, many recovery systems or cheap air powered vacuum pumps will not reach a level of vacuum to boil the moisture out, which is the biggest killer of AC systems. A two stage vacuum pump will do the trick. A cool thing to show this is to seal a jar with water in it and a valve in the cap to hook to the pump and you will see water boil in your hand at room temp. It is a good learning experience. Sorry for the long blow, but maybe someone will find it useful.
@lordjaashin
@lordjaashin 7 ай бұрын
only high pressure test with nitrogen is good for finding leaks. uv dye in some rare cases. vacuum test is not reliable for finding leaks. if i remember correctly, vacuum creates only 14 psi differential with atmosphere pressure. which is pretty low for leak finding.

But when you said the other funnel is too big and Mrs. O said it's never too big, I laughed so hard my side started hurting. The commentary between you two is awesome!! Oh yeah nice job on the A/C work too. That looked like an easy one to do. Some can be a PITA.

It makes no real difference but its worth mentioning... After 10 or so years rubber o-rings sometimes go bad and turn into plastic. I always replace them as a rule of thumb but if they protrude out passed the flange still and they are still rubbery Then it will be sealed untill the next guy comes along. Loving your videos here in Wales, UK. Keep on wrenching Mr. O. We love it.

I used Phillips screwdrivers on my Japanese motorcycles for decades, but finally bought a JIS set a few years ago as everyone needs more tools. They actually do make a huge difference and I find that they work better than Phillips screwdrivers on many Phillips screws. If I had to use only one style screwdriver for both style screws, I’d pick JIS.

As time went on, I could see by the way my truck was not handled with care, and I was getting double talk, I stopped bringing the truck back to that shop. Blessings to you and yours....

I need to do my heater core. And i keep getting a runaround about recovery and recharging the system. Most places want $200 to recover and that as well to recharge. So needless to say i havent done it yet. And i really dont wanna just let it into the atmosphere. But at $400 its almost cheaper to have them do the heater core for $800-1000. Great video,love the classic intro.
