This definitely helped with my problem. I did this test and the fan came on. However when I plugged the wire back into the thermosensor the light was still on. Long story short it ENDED UP BEING THE FEMALE PLUG THAT THE THEROSENSOR WIRE PLUGS INTO WAS LOOSE.. I took needle nosed pliers and squeezed that female connector where it was gapped back together to make a tighter fit when the male went into the female. Warmed the quad up and low and behold the fan came on. It took a while to get to temp for the fan to kick on so be patient. Thank you for this video it with out a doubt got rid of my headache on this problem.👍👍👍

Excellent video to troubleshoot this issue. My 2003 Foreman 450es fan would not run any more and my oil temp light would come on often. With the help of your video I determined the fan control module was bad. Replaced it and was back in business! Thank you for taking the time to post this for us diy ers it was a huge help!!

@@hondaman6918 Just makes sure when you buy anything electrical for a Honda 4-wheeler especially older models that it’s OEM or a high quality aftermarket from a actual Atv/UTV store. The 1’s from Amazon are a great price but will cost you so much more later, they go out very quickly if they even work. And electric parts from Amazon are Notorious for firing everything on your wheeler or catch it on fire 🔥 I’ve personally experienced this for myself

Commenting again because somehow, I deleted my original comment. I found a fix for a faulty fan control module buried on a Honda forum and it worked for me. If you fan runs with 12V applied and you know your FCM is faulty, you can try baking it in an oven at 450 degrees for 7-10 minutes. The idea is that this melts the solder inside and reflows any broken joints. I gave it a try on my dead FCM and couldn't believe it worked. Prior to deleting my original comment, I think two more folks replied that this worked for them.

Great video I’m currently working on a 02” model I have a short some where interesting that there is a grounding wire that runs to the speed cluster that has to have continuity through the speed in order for the fan to run I found this out in the Manuel and wiring diagrams

I’m not a mechanic, quick question, my oil temp light won’t go out, stays on. I’ll just change oil sensor, cheap part. It unscrews from bottom, but how do you disconnect wire side? Is it easy? Is there a disconnect on the wire side? Does it just pull apart? Any advice would be great…
@savagebeast8476

Thanks for sharing this. I suspected my fan on my 2k Rancher 350 ES wasn't working. Checked the fuse. good. Disconnected the temp sensor and grounded the wire. No joy. Disconnected the fan, ran jump leads from the battery. Fan came on. Sweet! I hooked all the connections back up. No Joy. hmmm. I probe the green wire to the fan. Found 12 volts. I grounded the blue wire leading to the fan motor. again, no joy. Now I'm perplexed. It's obviously not getting a command on from the FCU. Any ideas before I fire off the parts cannon? Thanks & Cheers from Louisiana.

I thought about putting an aftermarket temperature gauge on mine, and wiring the fan straight to a toggle switch so when it gets hot enough I can turn the fan on. My question is, What temperature does a 400 foreman get to, or how hot is it supposed to get for the fan to come on?

This was very helpful. Does anyone know what temperature the engine case would be for this to trigger the thermosensor? Ie using a temp gone to confirm the tempsensor is working or is that idependant to the oil overheat light?

It doesn't actually make a ground. The temp switch gets to a certain resistance that the module reads then it decides to kick fan on. I use a normal sensor that actually grounds like one used for a dummy light. It eliminates the computer.

How frequently is the fan supposed to come on? I was worried about mine bc i felt like it used to come on all the time, and now i couldn’t even remember the last time it came on, it did come on recently though. Maybe it was because of the oil that was in it previously?

OK thank you I just bought this used 2002 Honda 450 es foreman and I was unsure if the cooling system is working properly because while riding it The fan never seems to kick in but maybe I can’t hear it when riding on it.
@savagebeast8476
@savagebeast8476 4 жыл бұрын
It takes alot to get the fan to kick in, unless your working it etc and it's hot 🔥 out.... they run much hotter than a liquid cooled. If you want to test the system you can start the machine and let it idle, just keep an eye on it and watch for the fan or temp light etc, depending on the temperature 🌡 it may take 20 plus minutes to come up to temp and cycle the fan on and off... you will definitely hear it kick in also.... then you can be sure it's working properly....

I grounded the wire to the temp sensor and the fan turns on then right off. And if I leave it grounded the fan will cycle on then off every minute or so. Do you have any ideas? The temp sensor, fcm and fan motor are all new.
@savagebeast8476
@savagebeast8476 Жыл бұрын
I would hook everything back up and run the machine to verify it's working... or not working properly. It does take a while at idle for the fan to turn on. If it cycles on and off it should be fine, the overheat light only turns on after it's very hot. If you have replaced those parts, I would definitely verify everything again, these machines run hot and sometimes it's deceiving, it seems like the fan should be on when the system is actually ok. If the overheat light illuminates then obviously it's to hot, but I would start there. Hopefully this helps.

It's possible, but you will have to try and narrow it down, you could try unplugging it at the oil temp sensor and go from there... see if it shuts off and start eliminating things... thank you
