I have 4 srx 600's and 5 400's The 400's are great but all 600's are a pig to start and cannot be relied upon to take out more than a couple of miles - Otherwise it's a long push home when they conk! And they do! Frequently

Hi and thanks for watching! You've caught up with current progress on the GL1000. I should be back on it after Christmas and uploading more content then. Make sure you subscribe to the channel and then you'll get notifications when there is new content :-)

I noticed that the Valkyrie damper plate has teeth on both sides. Very confusing. Never got that far on my GL1000 as the clutch worked fine. In retrospect, other that checking spring length, I didn't disassemble when I had the engine out. Stupid.
@davidevelyn53017 күн бұрын
Further, the 2 damper plates have 2 different part #. 22322-371-020 for the Wing. 2232-MZO-000 for the Valk. Just sayin'

Not sure to be honest. I think it would be tricky at the very least, if not impossible.

Found one in near mint condition living in South Ontario Canada. Previous owner had ordered the F2 fairing from Japan at a huge cost, but the bike is labeled with just the F. Only 25,000 kms on it and what a machine. Does everything I need for the twisties or highway touring. Just love everything about the looks and those inboard brakes. Always gets lots of riders coming to have a look and ask questions about those brakes at our local gathering every week. Loves to rev and the sound of the stock exhaust and carbs is all I need. A 1983 model that makes my heart sing every time I look at it to go for a ride. Dang winter. And I'm 76 years old. Dangit.

Hi. Congrat for your bike. I am from Canada. Just bought an old cbx 550f. Seeking for new exhaust. I do have the exhaust headers but no muffler at the end. What would be your recommendation and suggestion. Your input would be really appreciated. TX. Charles
@VJMotoResto10 күн бұрын
Hi and thanks for commenting. Both sides of mine have fully welded headers/mufflers, although I'm sure I've seen some that are separate. My bike had a Motad 4-1 when I got it which gave it a huge flatspot at @3k. The stock exhausts sorted that issue. My old CBX had a 4-1 NETA exhaust which worked well, not sure they were available in Canada as I believe they were a British company? My advice would be to try and find a complete stock system but they're rare as hen's teeth I'm afraid.

@@VJMotoResto So glad to ear from you. Can I send you some pics of my headers and get your tough on them. want to see if the are worth still. If yes, can you give me your email or a way to send them to you. tx. Charles

Very nice! I’m getting ready to paint the motor for my 79 basket case project. We don’t have that brand of paint over here in the US, but I am going to try a rust oleum engine paint from the local auto parts store. Besides a thorough cleaning, did you sand or apply primer before painting? Also, do you plan to apply a clearcoat?
@VJMotoRestoАй бұрын
I've had good results using Rustoleum products before. The Motip paint I use doesn't need a clearcoat. I washed the engine off with kerosene and then wiped it all over with brake cleaner. I removed any loose paint before spraying but I didn't worry about rubbing the rest of it down. I did a similar thing to my SRX engine 12 months ago and it still looks great, although I don't ride it in the wet. Good luck with your project!

Great to see another video from you on this bike! Do you find this silver paint a good match to the original Honda colour? My engine has far more 'patina' than yours but it's in the frame so painting the top is not so easy even though I've removed the rad and fan, carbs, and fuel tank.

Yes it seems spot on to me!

Hello I am from France, Valence/Montélimar region and I watch all your videos because I am in the middle of restoring a Honda 1000 GL LTD from 1976. About the spokes, when I dismantled the spokes there was on each nipple a small curved washer of Honda origin, but when I see your video, you no longer put the small washer back! is this normal? I ordered the two spoke kits, and there are no washers. the original Honda spokes have a diameter of 3.50mm and in the adaptable spoke kits 3.16 mm so thinner, what do you think?? Do you have a video on the spring-loaded primary chain tensioner because on my engine n° 2035577 GL1E from 1976 there is a fixed primary chain tensioner, can I put a spring-loaded chain tensioner which were mounted from 1977 or 1978 I think?

No need to strip the engine as it runs and has reasonable compression and runs through the gears ok.

If your idler bearings are dry , you can replace the bearing with a common kia / hyundai bearing , you just drill it out / grind off the back etc drill and countersink to 12mm , bolt them on loctite on nuts etc

There is a fourth way to get the pistons out of the caliper bodies without damaing the pistons or the calipers. Carefully put the caliper half into a vise, using shims to avoid marring the finish. Use a socket extension and a deep well socket to spin the piston. Wedging the extension and the socket by cam action, using a rachet drive, the piston will loosen so that you can pull it out of the bore. To see this technique demonstrated, go to "Ken's Garage" on KZbin.

An easy way to put the races into the head tube is to put the races in a plastic bag, then place them in the freezer overnight. When frozen, they contract slightly, allowing them to pop in with a lighter touch of the hammer, or with a press. Enjoying the series so far.😊
