I've been dreading yanking the carbs on my Goldwing, but this is the best tutorial I've seen yet. No need to break it all down.

Wondering if you can help me, I followed your video and removed the bowls. When I turned the plenum over to dump some gas out a small black rubber round piece fell out. I can't for the life of me see where it fell out of....please help. Would like to add a picture but not allowed

I also own an 82 GL1100A and the throttle cable wheel only turns a small amount and the butterflys only open on the linkage side. The other side seems seized or jammed. Any suggestions on how to free that linkage up to the other two carbs.

Great video, how do you clean the carb when the jets are pressed in like on the 1980 GL1100? I tried to boil it with vinegar and water, carb cleaner and even bought an ultra sonic cleaner

Get a 3mm x 0.5p tap and run it down into the pilot jet about 3 full turns after it bites. Leave the tap in temporarily (to block off the hole) as you blow the brass chips out of the pilot jet tower with compressed air. Remove tap. Get a 3mm x 0.5p machine screw that's about 30mm long and run a nut halfway up the threads. Slide a washer (that's wide enough to cover the pilot jet tower) up under the nut. Place assembly over the tower and gently tighten the screw into the tapped hole until it "just" snugs up, then STOP. Adjust the nut down the threads of the screw by hand until both the nut and washer are in direct contact with the top of the tower. While holding the head of the screw, slowly tighten the nut with a wrench. In a turn or two, you will have "pulled" the pressed in pilot jet from its seat. Clean, and replace, or buy new ones and replace. They can be pressed back into place with a few gentle taps with a very small hammer and a 1/4" punch or small brass drift. Warning- The jet only needs to be driven in ~1mm deep, so mark the driver with a line. If you're generally ham fisted, or find yourself frequently overtightening things, I suggest that you find a helper with a gentle touch and let her do it.

I just purchased my first bike for next to nothing from a family friend of mine. He said the bike always had carb issues, and for three years now it has sat in a garage full of gas and oil. I have no experience with either cars or motorcycles but it has always been a dream of mine to repair and own a bike. What would you suggest I do begin working on this bike? Continue exploring youtube? Buy books and manuals? Or just start getting my hands dirty and tear up the bike with what I know. What are some starting tools and equipment do I need before I get really into this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey man! Hope its all going good! If its a goldwing like the one in the video i highly suggest you pick up a manual and join a forum! I personally ride a 1981 Naked Goldwing, so ive joined the for them, NGWClub.

You need to have compression, spark, and fuel. If any one of these is not working, the bike will not run. Clymer manuals give great info for these. www.clymer.com/honda-gl1000-and-1100-1975-1983-m340

2 cables, one for each half. You get half the carbs with just one

OMG! How did you miss so much? All this is, is a tutorial how to dissemble and reassemble the carb, with NO mention about how to remove any aluminum corrosion blemishes from the inside of the vacuum throttle heads. (Most common performance issue on these.)

I only made it 20 seconds. When I saw that you were wearing your mother's dishwashing gloves that's all I needed to see. REAL MEN HAVE CALLUSES AND SCARS!

@@MidNebraskaMotorsports wow you make a lot of assumptions, said the guy who's building a tiny house on a fifth wheel trailer in front of a mobile home that belonged to a friend's mother who passed away. Actually the disabled old guy who is still building his own tiny house with his own scarred up callused man hands enduring more pain than you could ever handle little girl.

Go ahead and you'll smell like gasoline for a week after, I thought the same thing until I started and found out the smell of rancid gas is way worse than normal clean gas and it will absorb into your skin and smell bad....good luck with your calluses as you call them...

Most of us have callouses and scars. I also have hands that get so dry and damaged from carb and brake cleaner that they were cracking open and bleeding. Then I discovered I have a brain, so I bought chemical resistant black nitrile gloves that, to the untrained eye, look remarkably like your mother's dishwashing gloves. So now after working on my bike/car/tractor/snowblower, when I caress my wife, she no longer says, "stop touching me with sandpaper that smells like chemicals". YMMV but I doubt it.
