Typically I don’t ride a bike a week before a trip but mainly is to get the bike in tip top shape and do trial packing. I've seen off the wall things happen to bikes before big trips that can't be fixed in time.
@Motoramblings2 ай бұрын
@@flatcapcaferacer That’s what I’ve heard from folks that do the same, and was part of why I was going to do the same. After riding the week prior to my trip, now I’m thinking it’s not a bad thing to find the small issues before heading out…. Thanks Jerry, I hope all is well, Patrick

We do many things before the ride. It's just our routine. Yup, before a Long ride, we usually don't ride for three days before leaving. I want to make sure the bike is all good.
@Motoramblings2 ай бұрын
@@BootsandJeansRiders I have heard that, and after my “incident”, I thought I would end up doing the same thing. With the VStrom temporarily down, and the couple of rides I did take with the Wing, I’m happy I did so. I will always do a bit of an “extra thorough” look at the bike before I head out on a ride, but I will probably try to get in a decent ride just before leaving, with eyes and ears paying close attention to the machine! Thanks so much for watching, again! I hope you’re doing well, Patrick

No superstitions I can think of, but I usually do not ride the week before a trip. Keep the risk of injury down, and I want that excitement when I get in the bike, that comes from missing a few days - Frank
@Motoramblings2 ай бұрын
@@OneOldManRiding I do get that, but now that I’ve finally done a big trip, I can see being super excited, even if I rode hundreds of miles the day before! I think for me it’ll just be a whatever happens, I don’t ride just before a trip because I was busy with other things, or… if a ride comes up just before leaving, I’ll do that as well… thanks Frank!

I really don’t have any but the people I work with are very superstitious about saying it’s quiet in the ambulance or ER! You get a lot of grief if you say it before you leave!😆 Some don’t want to wash the ambulance because then we get busy.

@@chuckhanson35 Heck, I’ve even seen that on some of the TV shows I watch. We would sometimes give carriers grief if they said something like “It’s going to be an easy day”. That’s when we knew there would be something that would happen to create a long day for everyone!! Thanks Chuck! Patrick

The week before a ride if I don't ride its because Im working on getting things ready the week before I go. Like put extra hours in at work or make sure everything is working right on the bike. I do have a superstition but its not motorcycle related. In another part of my life I worked in the performing arts, when I was in college I had a professor who would not let us say the Name Macbeth in the theatre. The show was cursed. I hope you finally find out whats up with the V strom that has been giving you issues for the past couple of months.
@Motoramblings2 ай бұрын
@@ScottsMotoAdventures I wonder if Macbeth is a common no-no in performing arts, I can see that being a sort of issue…. After my wreck, I thought maybe there was something to the whole not riding before a big trip. I rode this Wing a lot before my trip, it was actually a benefit! The Vstrom is running again, it was a fuel filter, fairly simple, but time consuming, it just took me awhile to get to it. Hopefully I will create some videos with it soon!! Thanks Scott, be safe, Patrick

I'm not sure if you call it a superstition or tradition. I always try to buy a gremlin bell for people when they buy a new (or new to them) bike. When I was interested in buying a bike, I always watched motorcycle accident videos and my daughter (At that time, living at home) saw me watching them. She asked, "Dad, why do you watch those videos? Doesn't that scare you?" I told her, "I watch them to learn. I don't want to make the same mistake they did." Make sense.

@@theSMYRNAcowboy that does make sense! I know a lot of people that won’t watch crash videos. That’s awesome you buy the Gremlin Bells, I have one on each bike… unless I lose one along the way, then I wait for a replacement…. Thanks so much for watching, and for commenting! Patrick

@@bobnelson2499 Thanks Bob. I believe that’s exactly how I will be from now on. I’m very glad I rode this bike as much as I did just prior to leaving, found out about the bar end, and it gave me peace of mind knowing all was well with the bike!! I hope you’re doing well, Patrick

I don’t, until I do. I don’t think I about it often, but I have an old brass skeleton key on my keyring (not the bike’s key ring). My grandfather gave me that key a long time ago - whatever it unlocked was already long since gone. Whenever I’m riding, if I don’t carry that set of keys with me for some reason (a rare occasion), I start thinking about not having that key with me and wondering if that will make the difference today, good or bad.
@Motoramblings2 ай бұрын
@@randomlyTrees that sounds like the beginnings of a superstition, and I get that one for sure. Once I start to feel like I may have an issue because I forgot something I usually carry, it becomes a bit consuming, and I feel like I need to get the item!! Thanks Andrew!! I hope all is well, Patrick
